One hire could change the perception of Woody as I said in my post above. Just as 1 QB could change the perception of the franchise. See pre 2001 Patriots, and Pre 1998 Colts for example.
Yes And you might see him do that if the Knicks get off to a fast start and Phil Jackson gets a lot of credit
So what are you saying? Woody's not a bad owner? I don't disagree with that. Stay the course? That may be what's not rational.
He's done a good job, not great but good. Let's not also forget we have had a top 5 all time QB in our division basically the entire time so it has been even harder to win b/c we have been playing for WC's and we have still had more success. Righty now we suck but we are less than 2 years into a regime change. I don't know the answers but I wouldn't be too quick to clean house.
No......what you are not getting is Bon Jovi to replace Woody as owner, since there is no guarantee Johnson will not hire the same consulting firm that got us Idzik. Numerous previous posts have called for Johnson selling out. Whether it's a conglomerate or not a new owner would at least end WJ's string of managerial failures. Other than 2009, can't see this trend being reversed other than somehow forcing WJ out. Maybe Jerry Jones has a billionaire cousin lol Dallas has always been competitive. WJ doesn't care about good suggestions as getting a "Football Czar" else he would have got one already? BB is both HC and GM I agree we need that combo to succeed.
I don't know about that, man. This might be the best time to clean house. Idzick did his job, and turned our cap situation from a disaster to a huge positive. I'm sure any GM candidates would love to prove themselves in a big market team with a ton of cash under the cap. Idzick has shown little ability to evaluate talent. If Woody had any chutzpah he'd fire Idzick and the scouting department. Bring in a new GM and let him hire his own staff. If that means getting rid of Rex, I think that's unfortunate but so be it. Rex did an amazing job of setting up a mostly dominant D for the next guy.
If U think that a HC with a all time losing record is a "good" coach then it is time for U to find another team to root for IMHO. I wonder what your dad who was around for SB3 & Weeb & everything that went with that would have to say about RR performance today. I would think he would have far more common sense then U have & would look at the current NYJs with head first & not his heart as U seem to do
Woody is not that bad. This is the 1st time since he bought the team that they have had a sustained period of missing the playoffs. In his first 11 years though they made the playoffs 6 times. He has also spent money when the time comes. He spent it on Favre. He spent it on the guys Rex Ryan wanted and it lead to those 2 AFC title game appearances. He will spend it again no doubt. The biggest mistake Woody has made since he has been the owner is hire a new GM, but force him to keep the same head coach. I get why he did it, mainly Rex having alot of success early on, but it undermined Idzik by doing so. One mistake by the owner though does not mean he is a MORON. Nobody was calling him a moron from 2000 - 2010 when the Jets made the playoffs more often then they didn't. Woody will be making big changes at the end of the year. He has given Rex more then enough chances. Idzik would be a quick firing but with our current situation at Cornerback, it would be justified. Salim Hakim played corner on Sunday, that's the kind of thing you see on low tier college teams with no talent. My guess is Woody offers the Head Coach and GM jobs all in one package to Harbaugh.
you do know the only SB winning coach we had in our history had a losing record w/ the Jets, right? he was actually 6 games under .500 prior to the 1968 season so I assume little champ wanted him fired before the 1968 season?
Fair point, but Woody had shown significant patience with Tannenbaum. It isn't like he's shown a Steinbrenner-esqe penchant for making management changes. I think a savvy enough GM candidate wouldn't have an issue with Idzick's time of service and excited to run a team with this much money under the cap and a potentially high draft pick in the upcoming draft. I'm fine with the team spending the time to rebuild. I like how the Steelers run things, for instance. But I don't know what Idzick has done to show that he's the guy who can actually get it done from a personnel standpoint. Yes it has only been 2 years but it seems like he's served his purpose, and the Jets should move on.
He won the SB so he gets RESPECT. What has RR or that matter any other coach we have had from Weeb to RR done for us bedsides not win us another championship?
How about the fact that he insisted on keeping the HC when he was looking to hire a new GM? Several of the better candidates withdrew their name from consideration when they learned that. We have no definitive proof, but it has been widely speculated that Woody forced Idzik to accept Rex and won't allow him to fire him. No quality owner would do that. He hires the right man for the GM job and allows him to make the decisions, especially when he knows little or nothing about the game himself.
That's because our franchise history is littered with mostly failure. It's time for the Jets to be respectable.
And Parcells was the one who laid that foundation. We need another franchise architect to stabilize that foundation.
I do not think Woody is cheap. I do think he is not businesslike, and lets personal relationship silliness influence his decisions. Everybody likes Rex personally. No matter. He should have swept it clean 2 years ago and had his choice of someone to run things. Now he is in a world of doo doo.
