It isn't about "energy", it's about intelligence and neither players are smart. Winston has "great character",,,,take off the rose color glasses...he's an idiot and should be know where close to running an NFL Franchise, cause the QB is the leader of the team. JW has talent, just like Russell, both have only a few marbles in their head. Stay away from JW!!
If we swing and miss on Jameis Winston after all this franchise has been through, idk if I could ever root for this team again. It could set us back 10+ years.
You belive he is gonna slide? because to me he is the only QB in this draft along with Cook. Let the runners out of the shot gun out of this talk lol.
The kid is immature for sure but say he's not intelligent might be a mischaracterization. Don't let the southern accent fool you; he's an A student and probably has the best football IQ of all the QBs exept for maybe Carden. All that said; I too want no part of him.
Some team will drink the Kool-Aid. His talent is top tier, no question, I just don't want an immature kid running my franchise. You're not too smart to jump on a table and say" Fuck you in the cunt" at the top of your lungs in a crowded lunch room. Pass on JW!!
In my fantasy land: We sign Sam Bradford We draft Amari Cooper OR we sign a big-name WR and draft an OL in the first. Sign a big-time corner. Success.
This is exactly what I've been saying, I think this is absolutely the best way to go. Mariota has a talented arm - but a few here on this board such as yourself and I, saw some of the inconsistencies in Mariota's game. That Stanford game over the weekend really opened my eyes to Peat, that guy has talent, but the question is what happens to Brick or Giacomini? Can Giacomini play guard?
He probably could. I really watched D Brick last Sunday, he had a rough game, he's not the same player. I know it would create some dead money, but we may need to move on and it be his last year in NY. Peat could start at LT day one and play better. Colon needs to go too, he's overrated and a ticking time bomb. We need a solid OT & OG for 2015, draft or FA.
So who's going to QB for this team going forward? Are we going to sign injury prone time-bombs in Bradford/Locker? Sign some retread? I like Jameis a lot. He may be a bit immature, but his football IQ is phenomenal (along with his physical attributes obviously). We need a QB that can read the field and make good decisions. I think Jameis is that guy. I'm obviously not a professional scout/psychologist, but if the Jets feel JW will be able to mature (remember, he's only 20), I want him as our QB of the future.
Damn - that would hurt to see Brick leave New York - him and Mangold are like joined at the hip. At least we could move Brick to RT for a few seasons see how that experiment works. Peat looks like a guy that can help out against those speed rushers to protect the QB's blind side.
I dont know enough about day 2 and 3 prospects but I think the positions that need to be addressed are as follows: QB/OL/WR/CB I dont love Mariota, but if the Jets FO does, may as well take a shot at your franchise QB. OL is extremely important though and if Mariota was gone, or if the Jets felt the same way I do about him, I'm all about Andrus Peat. That guy is a mauler. He could easily step in and start at LT IMO.
You're going to give the keys to the franchis to a 20 year old punk Kid that will never grow up?? A huge, huge risk !!! The next future QB of the Jets is not on the Jet's roster. We can invest in a Vet FA to get by for a year or so, cause the Jets problems aren't going to be solved in 1 year....I just have no confidence JW is the answer to the current fiasco. I'd rather have Mariota and let him develop, but not as a Top 5 pick.
Mariota with sloppy footwork? That's a first. I've watch Mariota quite a bit, "sloppy" is just not a word I would associate with any part of his game. His mechanics and footwork are pretty much ideal. Under pressure that sometimes goes out the window but that can be said for almost every QB college or pro. The guy in this draft with sloppy footwork at all times is Winston.
I love when folks say this. Yeah, I'll take the number 1 pick in the draft, a true franchise QB who will set up my team for a decade plus. But only if I can get him at 15 or lower. _
How about this: as long as Terry Bradway and John Idzik are in the front office we'll fuck it up. Yes, a dark view, but under Bradway have we ever hit on a high pick (top 5-10)?
