After both of today's Press Conferences, Rex seemed like he may make it out this season unscathed. Another reason this may happen is because of Woodys Relationship with Rex.... Would love to hear everyones opinion on this.
If we get to 6-10 there's certainly a chance. Idzik claims that he still believes in Rex, but right now I think both of them are trying to save their jobs. At the moment nearly every fan is calling for Rex to be fired... It will likely happen but let's see if we're closer to 1-15 or 8-8.
I just can't see it happening. After games like yesterday and seasons like this is going to turn into (2012 wasn't nearly this bad) this just feels like rock bottom. It feels like the final culmination of the downfall of what was a talented team when Rex took over. It's bad bad decision after bad decision. Throw in a couple draft busts and you have what we got today. Woody would be crazy at this point, barring a miraculous turnaround to bring Rex back. You can sell me on Idzik, but you just can't sell me on Rex at this point. This organization needs a change. You can say firing Rex isn't fair, but I think it needs to happen. And I think a HC with a past proven track record needs to be brought in to steer the ship back in the right direction.
According to a very unscientific poll conducted earlier today on WFAN, over 40% said they wanted Rex back. A lot of Jets fans love Rex and tend to give him credit for everything we do well and zero blame for anything that goes wrong. He a player's coach and a cheerleader. Fans like cheerleaders and players like players coaches. So, despite being a loser over the last 3+ seasons, he's quite popular.
If Woody keeps Rex, which would mean keeping Idzik too, I will stop being a Jets fan. No way Woody can fire Idzik and keep Rex, putting the next GM in the hole like that. What GM candidate worth having would sign up for that task. Oh, wait, Idzik would. Then again Idzik is a fool with no football experience.
That would be beyond ridiculous. I think Woody would ultimately feel the pressure to pull the plug. My fear is that he wins just enough meaningless games to keep his job . . . again.
unlike many of the fans on this forum where he gets 100% blame for everything that goes wrong and zero credit for anything that goes right - instead of the truth which is that he should take some blame for the state of the team and some credit for getting something out of the lack of talent we have out there - its a team sport - its not the fault of any one player or member of staff, its an endemic problem with the franchise because it doesn't seem to have ever been any different so long as I can remember, which is about 30 years now....
Absolutely fucking not...there's no one involved with this organization that should survive this shit show of a season
I hope so and I still expect him but if the team quits and we end up w/ 2-3 wins then he probably won't be.
This is just nonsense. There are a plethora of people defending Rex nonstop. He's the most popular 1-7 coach I've ever seen. Of course not, but Rex is the head coach!! He's ultimately responsible for how his team performs. This team has regressed dramatically under his leadership. We've been a losing team for a while now, despite adamant proclamations from the head coach that this team is loaded with talent. At some point, he has to be held accountable for his own words . . . right? It's been different for individual seasons, but we just have never found the right leadership and HC/Quarterback combo to sustain it.
F-U-C-K N-O. Idzik and Rex are a bunch of cheerleaders and so is the entire staff. Francesa said it perfect today...the Jets brass is so easily satisfied by the stupidest shit on the field it's pathetic. In Idzik and Rex land, Wins and Losses don't matter. Every other franchise is laughing at this circus right now. They are so fuckin delusional it's scary. If Woody keeps Rex it's clearly not because of his job performance and only about ulterior motives. Rex 100% deserves to be gone.
I didn't say everyone did I? but there is a core of posters on here that just seem to pile the blame on blindly what do you expect him to say "this team sucks and is talentless"? have you ever seen a single head coach in any professional sport do that? ever? of course he knows this team sucks and behind closed doors I hope he is going nuts about it - the team has regressed dramatically during his tenure but none of us has the slightest idea how much of that is down to him or down to the FO as a whole - at this point I fully expect Rex to get sacked and he must be expecting it himself - I don't think its the right move but at the same time if it leads to us getting someone better in then so be it - I want to see the team succeed rather than any individual - I just have zero faith in this organization to make the right choices and they will probably just leap on whomever is flavor of the month at the time. isn't that what I am saying? that its not a "rex ryan" issue its a "new York jets" issue - they just never seem to get it right.
I see no scenario where Rex comes back. Idzik and the entire FO department should be out the door along with them.
Its incomprehensible to me that there's still a seemingly large faction of people on this board that think Rex should still be the Jets HC next season. He knows ZERO about the offensive side of the ball. How can anyone still want him as the head coach?
