looking at what was left, yeah we made the right choice. none of the others would've been worth it more than a potential franchise QB. the fact that he didn't work out shouldn't distract us from the fact that it was good pick given what was available. thats kind of my main driving point.
It wasn't the draft to take a QB. Should have kept Mark and brought in a viable backup... This past season was the season to draft a QB..
Cro had a bad hip so they assumed he was done. Cro this year in AZ is playing well. While Patterson is on his couch. Like I said Idzik made mistakes but that one is perplexing.
8 attempted passes as a Spartan. His work came as a Wildcat and his gametape came from those games and he learned in that offense for 3 years. Geno played under Stewart for a season before Dana came to WVU. Agreed about Manziel but that doesn't negate where he came from in Texas A&M. My point is the type of offense you played in college doesn't suddenly just doom a player. Its more than just that.
As awful as sanchez was in 2012 there was no way the Jets could've trotted sanchez out there again as the defacto starter. The best QB prospect fell in their lap they had to take a chance. We don't know how good any of these 2014 QB's are going to be.
That doesn't exclude what he learned in practice and in the film room. He has knowledge of the offense
T Hey should have kept mark and bright in a experience d qb to challenge the starters spot. Competition pure and simple. Hind site being 20 20 they should have drafted anyone not named genocide But the crime here is is not fixing the issues before the season and not benching Geno after he became the human turn over machine. Instead they forc we d him down our throats at the cost of a season. If Rex goes the gm should be on even a shorter leash
Oh shut up...yeah Lacy/Bell was a need? a freaking RB? Who would have guessed Kiko would have been great. I am asking back then who would we have drafted and the only one that makes sense was Robert Woods
you may not regret it but there about 1 million other fans that do. An offensive lineman would have been nice. A receiver also.....at dinner but I am sure there were players drafted after Geno worthy of the pick.
Geno had more snaps and games than Foles outside of an air raid offense in college. Foles got to sit for basically half a season year 1 and learn and take his bumps and bruises but under Chip Kelly who is one of the best offensive minds in this sport, he has taken his game to the next step with some very good pieces around him. Chip Kelly was able to work around a wounded OLine and it only helped Foles. He played in an air raid offense but again, with proper coaching and the player being able to learn and adapt on the pro level, you negate wherever offense you came from. Joe Flacco might have had "Pittsburgh Panther experience" but he played at a Division IAA school at Delaware and was able to learn as a day 1 starter and have highs and lows. This despite the talent level he played with and against being far inferior than what he would have faced at a Division 1 school. You need to have the mechanics, the work ethic, the arm, the athleticism and overall ability/intangibles. A style of offense in college doesn't dictate that in a QB on the NFL level.
Yeah but that's a red herring. There isn't an Andrew Luck in the next 5 drafts. But there's a better Matt Ryan. _
Despite that Geno never played in an offense that allowed him to practice the basic 3 step, 5 step drop under center in college. He's far more fundamentally flawed then Foles. He reads defenses and goes through his progressions. Geno sucks in a 1 read offense. We can add the Chip Kelly factor also but Foles was impressive with Reid and Marty also when he came in for an injured Vick his rookie yr.
Go look at my posts in the draft. I've liked Teddy for 3 years and Carr for 2. Both of those guys are much much better prospects that Geno. By a mile. Btw, there were a bunch of guys in the draft forum who were touting Garoppolo as the best QB out that draft. Not me but I think he'll be better than anyone out of the 2013 class. _
i kind of looked at Carr as a Smith redux actually… didn't drop back regularly in college, good arm, great stats, and about as accurate at a college level. but thats just me, I find it odd that you put him next to teddy. One can make a solid argument for teddy over Pryor, but carr would've been an awful pick with the 18th pick.
