you don't draft with next year in mind. that makes no sense whatsoever, c'mon man. think about it, you pass on a Qb you think you're getting good value on because "its a bad draft" and you hold out on hope for the guys coming out next year. and then somebody has a down year and doesn't look the part the way they did before, and then somebody gets hurt, and then somebody says he's not declaring, and then somebody gets arrested- Oops, looks like a lot of players from the draft you'd sure would be better aren't as attractive after all. you make draft calls based on whats in front of you, period.
He does. It's because everyone from Woody to Rex knew we were rebuilding and that the team had no real expectations. Rebuilding is for evaluation and development of young players. Look how many unproven young guys/developmental players we had out there in key roles this season. What did people expect? Idzik made mistakes but most of his decisions were geared towards giving young guys a chance to play and develop.
what's galling is you look at the Lions and 3 out of the front 4 on the D-Line were first round picks - but they get away with it because they won the QB lottery that year - we spend the same number of picks on the D but sadly don't have the QB in the bank to do that.
Rule number 1: Do not draft a QB in shitty draft classes. Rule number 2: DO draft a QB in a strong draft class. Idzik's little experiment caused us to pass on superior options that everyone other than Genophiles saw coming a year earlier. If Idzik had the balls to take Teddy or Carr then I'd say you aren't 100% wrong. But that was a monumental failure. _
What does drafting Geno Smith and passing on 2 QBs while they are OTC tell you about the evaluation and decision-making skills of the Jets front office? Good value, I don't think Geno was good value at all - coming out he was a project. Couldn't read defenses, awful footwork, and couldn't even take snaps under center. Jets drafted a QB in the wrong yr yet again - there has to be some coincidence between teams that draft QBs in good yrs and us drafting them in bad yrs.
that only works if you have a high draft pick in the years where there is a strong QB class - and one of the many, many, many things this organization fails to do is suck at the right times.
correction ALL of his decisions are based on that for better or worse; and I really must emphasize that phrase, for BETTER or WORSE. Idzik wanted a stopgap corner this year while milliner and McDougle got their bearings. the corners in play wanted more commitment from JI than he was looking to give,so we got Patterson instead. and then… y'know, bullshit happened. that mindset has everything to do with where we are, and I'm thinking he's gonna learn that he needs to be a bit more pragmatic in the future because of how that turned up. I guess you really can't just go with the low cost vet and rookie every time...
Ain't that the truth. But by good fortune we had the PERFECT pick to grab a great prospect this year and we passed on them because we got such a steal last year lol. Drafting Geno blocked us from taking a much much better prospect. _
true - but it all starts with the QB and until we get that sorted nothing else matters - trouble is they haven't got it sorted ever and so I don't hold out any hopes - and to blame this on the coach is a joke - the Jets have NEVER been able to recruit/identify/develop QB talent regardless of who was in charge of the team - it has to be a curse.
I bet the Colts have no regrets about going 1-15 the year Peyton was hurt. Luck is torching the Steelers in Pittsburgh, another comeback ensuing
Again, there are QBs succeeding out of the Air Raid like Nick Foles. Johnny Manziel played in an Air Raid offense under OC Kingsbury 2 years ago and played in a lesser version by Sumlin last season. It has nothing to do with the offense he came out of from college, Geno's problem is he forces up throws way too much and tries to do too much when he can't at this point. He also is inconsistent with his accuracy and has yet to catch up to the NFL's speed. He for some reason has lost his way with his poor footwork and has let the coaching elements about ball security get into his head and thus he hasn't played loose if at all in his early career. He also needs to work on his eyework, that has been a big pet peeve coming out of WVU. Needs to not lock on just one or two guys, don't know if that will be fixed.
it makes me sick to my stomach that the Colts went from Peyton to Luck - give some other team a chance to enjoy a franchise QB
Idiotic... It was a shit pick when we made it, and this is the outcome.. He sucks.. There's a reason why he dropped so late in the draft. Not even the fucking Raiders, or Browns or Jags took this goon. Fuck him and fuck the Jets for WASTING a pick on him....
Antonio Cromartie should've been that stopgap vet instead of Patterson. Outside of that I had no problems with the moves Idzik made.
Foles still had experience under center. He attended Michigan State and they run a pro-offense. Manziel, we don't know what he is right now.

hell yeah, that was the most perplexing move Ji has ever made, Cro could've and probably should've been the prefect candidate to hold down the fort at CB. he was right there, he was nearly as cheap as Patterson, and about as injury prone, why Idzik didn't shoot for him, i'll never know.
