Apologies for the trite title (tritle?) Unless we find that Geno Smith has been spending his evenings in West Africa treating Ebola patients or has been cruising the underbelly of society nightly to feed, house and clothe the homeless his performance has now eliminated him from the future plans of this organization. We can maybe give him a little leeway on his first couple of missed opportunities with Harvin, but we don't need to give him four seasons to prove he can't play the game like the previous guy got. Many here, myself included, have been called homers and apologists for advocating a wait-and-see attitude for Smith but we've waited, we've seen and if the guy could not get ready for Buffalo after a decent showing against the Pats I don't see any upside. There certainly is no promise that Vick can take this team much farther but it's pretty clear Smith is not the guy to do it. Anybody want to give Geno more time after today? Congrats to Ryan for giving the early hook today.
Bump, agreed. This is the 5th time Smith had been benched and hopefully the last time we see him on the field in a uniform.
End of an era? Era of what?garbage football? For an era to end it also has to begin. But your thread title was dead on "End of an Error" The Error was drafting Geno now its hopefully over
Sad day when your backup quarterback with no reps outperforms you (albeit by not much)... But I can't lie, I got excited when Vick started moving the ball in the first half, thought we had something...
I wouldn't want to be in Idzig's and Rex's (assuming Rex is still their coach) shoes right now, deciding what to do with Geno after the season. It's obvious why he dropped into the 2nd round, so with this pick, Jets had to take a chance. Looking at his overall play, Gino has a long way to go.....do the Jets make the commitment to a third year , or just go to plan "B' ( whatever that is ) and bench Geno for a more capable starter ( which most likely means a veteran player) since drafting another QB will set them back for another 'learning' experience.... I was dead set against drafting Geno and , not to blow my own horn here, what mess they are in now. The consolation would be a high draft pick and a good shot at a franchise QB.
Wait, a QB from the draft didn't work out? How is that possible? When you need a QB you just draft one and it usually works out great, right? Next year lets just draft and start another rookie. /sarcasm Look, Geno should never have started last year. This year it was crazy to start an unproven Geno over an experienced Vick. Crazy.
Why don't we just start Vick? Vick is a better than average starting nfl QB. Focus on fixing the offensive line. Start Vick. Draft or get some prospects to groom as backups.
