Good episode. Another 2 great characters bite the dust. Loved the ending. "We saddling up for a showdown or what?" "We are..."
And another 2 characters bite the dust here...Mickey almost made it till the end. What the hell though...What is this Gillian story coming to the forefront near the series finale? I really hope we dont get another death to the main character at the end...Nucky needs to pull one over some way some how...Would be terrible if he gets killed...Oh well maybe he gets to see Mabel in his mind and gives up...
This show would have been better if the main caracther was a guy like Luciano or Capone they had way more impact in the mob history then Nucky.
I think the Gillian thing is coming up because that was when he started down the road of hurting people to advance his own self-interest. He could have saved her but didn't. Now he is realizing that he is a bad person to be associated with and wants to change. Thus trying to give up his empire to save Eli's kid. And giving that kid money and telling him to get the fuck away.
Yeah that seems pretty apparent. Not sure if he will live or die in the finale but Scorsese (sp?) Loves redemption and that would be right up his alley. The show also always suffered in the fact that they couldn't (wouldn't) kill the 'real' characters. That made a face off with luciano this season doomed from the start. I give it even money Nicky dies Sunday but it will be in some sort of do-good situation if it happens.
They've done a great job at making us really hate Luciano. I wanted him and Meyer Lansky to die. Bugsy Siegel too. Great acting for all those parts
That's the thing that was always holding the creative narritive back was that they couldn't kill the non-fictional players. So every time they would introduce a new fictional character you knew they were coffin fodder eventually. And no matter what you knew that luciano, Capone, torrio, and lansky have to survive so that kinda limits where the writers can go with the story.
Reflecting Poe, really unbelievable that a 13-14 could find AC on his own, be homeless, find a gun and kill somebody...also Gillian in a nut house communicating with him, when Richard hid him from everybody....
That finale was about as horseshit as the entire season. I was sure that Nucky would rescue Gillian from that looney bin and she'd end up killing him, it was the only rationale for her storyline, as boring as that would be. Instead, a kid who forgot his own mother after like six months ended up remembering his annoying and pointless MEEMAW after 7 years of no contact (she wasn't allowed visits or even writing paper until halfway through the season) and killing a guy that was kind to him, who he had absolutely zero interaction with for almost the entire tenure of the show. Gillian was always the most tedious POV for the show, and they made her the key to the series climax. What a buttfuck. I should have stopped at season 4.
Got to pretty much agree with that. The only real point to the season was does Nucky live or not. Odds were he didn't so they had to make it some kind of twist to keep people entertained. I didn't mind the flashbacks so much, they filled in some of story for those that have followed the show from the start. Ultimately seasons 1-3 were great, really good quality. Seasons 4 & 5 not so much. They just ran out of ideas and source material.
Wasn't much of a twist at least to me, as soon as they introduced the kid I knew it was Tommy. Who else could it be? He traveled from Wisconsin to AC by himself at age 13, got a gun and killed Nucky, really dumb...
