idzik brought in harvin to cover his own butt, getting heat from fans over unused cap space, and little improvement to receivers and cornerbacks. fans have to buy psls, tickets, and merchandise. bet you woody wasn't pleased to hear that in one survey, the jets were the only team in the league that were not the preferred nfl team in any zip code in the entire country! shocking, especially since they train in cortland county, and have a facility in a county in new jersey. not only did i see empty seats, but a large number of visiting team's fans in the last two home games. just as i am sure some members of the administration read these boards, they also check the secondary ticket markets to see how many season ticket holders are dumping their tickets for resale. frankly, if they do fire rex, which i don't agree with, they should bring in an offensive assistant, such as shaw from stanford, harbaugh from sf if he is on the market, kyle shanahan, joe lombardi, etc. but, if i was advising woody, i would tell him that you fire rex, you fire idzik also. no bringing in dan quinn, the seattle dc, just because he is idzik's buddy. back in 70's, weeb brought in charlie winner to succeed him as coach, who just happened to be his son-in-law. that was a disaster. if you want to change, put bill polihan on speed dial, hand him the keys , and let him clean house , scouting included. it's not like he is a glorified accountant, or has no track record of turning around 3 teams who all made it to the super bowl. woody, enough with the amateur hour!
Idzik didn't draft anyone. He was administrative bean counter and that is exactly what the Jets got. Just look at his two draft and free agency pick up. Hey how is Patterson doing? Oh right he's gone. How bout Mike Goodson? Yeah he's gone too. Two drafts and one starter even worth mentioning. and that is Sheldon Richardson.
You don't really think John Idzik just gets up that night heads into the room and just shoots off draft picks without any insight or scouting or use of his other confidants and people who spent hours upon hours trying to find hidden gems around the country and find any character flaws or problems in a potential target. There are guys in the organization that get paid for this and this is strictly their job and how they are evaluated for this. Its a big assumption to automatically declare a draft class as a dud or that had no reason to it. Anyone who automatically declares a draft class stinks so soon are nuts personally. Not everybody arrives in the NFL and dominates or is very good, there is a different learning curve for every player. Two guys(Evans/McDougle) got injured and are out for the year, that's just bad luck and takes a hit on the team. Would have happened to any team that took those 2. Their careers aren't destroyed because of the injuries.
the 2013 draft class for the ravens is already looking bad with the best GM of the last 15 years arthur brown hasn't had a snap all season and matt elam played 22 snaps last week. you're not going to hit on every pick
Oh please. McDougle was a reach with a injury history just like Milliner. We were in WR heavy draft and still didn't get a WR worth a flip.
OK so the press and a lot of fans are jumping all over Idzik (over the 20 mil but mostly because the team is 1-6). They weren't screaming and yelling last year after a decent draft and a unexpected 8-8 record after a disastrous 2012. They give Rex of course all of he credit for the 8-8 and mostly blamed Tanny and Tony Sparano and Tebow etc for 2012. The fact is they personally like Rex better than Idzik. Rex is a personable guy who gives them good stories. The best they've ever had from a Jets HC. Herm wasn't bad copy either but Rex is the best (at this). And Idzik is barely visible. He doesn't give them squat. Plus they blamed him for shutting up Rex even after they called Gang Green a circus because of all of the leaks (which they blamed on Pettine not on Rex). Rex got all of the D players his heart desired except one overpriced cornerback, Cro, a player who everyone knows sucked last year and Revis a guy the owner despises. His first draft pick as Jets GM was the highest ranked college cornerback on the board. Not his fault this player has been injured or that Rex's D has been mediocre giving up big plays on 3rd and long all season long. If you want to play the blame game let's be fair about it.
Rob Gronkowski missed the 2009 season for the Wildcats with back problems and he didn't miss a game for the Pats until year 3. Murray for Dallas has always had health problems, even dating back to his Oklahoma days and he's yet to miss a single game this year. Its all about luck when it comes to injuries. You can't control tearing an ACL, that can happen to any player. I don't like the Evans pick either but you have no idea how he turns out moving forward. He hasn't even played an NFL game. My point altogether is its silly to jump the gun on this draft class when the year hasn't even ended. A case can be made that you can't fully evaluate how a draft class does until a few years well down the road, nevermind after less than 2 months worth of games.
Patterson and Goodson were two serviceable pieces that just happened to fly off the handle and have legal/mental health issues. It isn't like they had huge red flags and he gave them lavish deals. He signed them to reasonable contracts to compete and they acted like complete knuckleheads...I honestly don't blame Idzik for their nonsense.
He better pay Mo Wilk. Idk what all these articles are talking about saying Wilk's camp and the jets are far apart on a deal, but it def. sounds like a good ol Idzik low ball might happened. I hope thats not true, you just don't do that to players like Mo, actually kinda disrespectful if you ask me. Thats what we get for waiting for Watt to sign a deal, that had to have raised Wilk's asking price. I know we can keep mo til 2016 but thats just not good business IMO if we don't sign that beast to a very healthy deal ASAP. Mo is a PROBLEM for ANY o-line!!!
I'm sure Mo will get his. Possibly during the season, but much more likely during the offseason. Getting Kerley done was important because he'll be a FA at te end of the year.
John Idzik has done nothing for this franchise in his two years as GM,the only good thing was the Ivory trade. We will see what happens with Harvin but if Seatlle who traded a first round pick,a third and a 6th and just won the Superbowl traded him for a 6th round pick tells me its only a matter of time until he starts an issue once he realizes he isn't gonna be catching many balls every week .He is Holmes 2.0.Yea he drafted Richardson but that was a lay up from the Revis deal he aso failed on Millner in that same draft
Incompetent loser GM Idzik is a crackhead For half the money he offered quintessential JAG "I make a play once every 5 games" Kerley he could have locked up Kelvin Benjamin or Brandin Cooks for 4 years plus a 5th year option. Instead he took a safety and didn't even choose the right one at that. The guy's made 4 good moves (Sheldon, decker, ivory, Harvin) in 2 years and struck out many many more times. The average Jet fan has a better chance of dating Kate upton than of witnessing the successful drafting of a franchise QB or offensive weapon within the next 40 years...
All that needs to be said about Idzik is that today the Jets had Saalim Hakim (a kick returner specialist and wide receiver) playing free safety and Antonio Allen (a strong safety) as our #1 cornerback. If you're the personnel man responsible for that, you are either incompetent or intentionally trying to lose.
The only explanation I can offer Re: Idziks ineptitude is that he's actually on the Pats payroll and is doing a Stella job, what other reason can there be?
