If Harvin sticks, how big of a need is WR?

Obviously if this blows up in our face we will have to target a WR early in the draft next year or in free agency. But whats the WR outlook if he looks good the rest of the season and doesnt cause any trouble?

Harvin's always been more of a gadget player than a guy that can line up on the outside regularly. Thats concern number 1.

Then you have to factor in his injury concerns. Can we depend on him to stay healthy for 16 games? Thats a huge risk. If he had to miss time we're right back to Kerley being our number 2. And even with Amaro developing it would still help to have that guy opposite Decker to stretch the field IMO.

But is that need as big as to target a WR early in the draft?

I guess a lot of it depends on how bad we are the rest of the season but I still see the team winning atleast 6 games. That wont be bad enough for where Cooper will go. But chances are Kevin White and Rashad Greene will be available where we pick.

Or is going into next year with Decker, Harvin and Kerley good enough?

if he sticks, we cut him and get another one....but if hes good..then we are fine..decker, harvin, kerly + amaro who is almost a WR..and cumberland...i said this in a post before...if geno cant get it done with those targets...then we need a new QB simple as that... no more excuses about weapons

I'm still ok going with a WR early. But not at the expensive of a better offensive lineman.

I think 6 wins is best case scenario for this team. The timing of this move puts the Jets in a precarious position when it comes to addressing WR in the next draft. They basically need to use these 9 games to make a determination on whether Harvin is worth a long-term extension or not.

I definitely agree that he's always been more of a gadget player than an every down wideout. Yet maybe that's because Minny and Seattle's offensive gamepan just didn't give him a shot to be that reliable WR.

I think even if Harvin does well the Jets should still look for another outside WR who can stretch the field. Maybe they can wait until the 2nd round if the WR depth is anything close to what it was in the this past draft. Go CB in the first round which is a must. Then try to get a big, productive WR in the 2nd round.

If Harvin doesn't show much this year, then I think the Jets should definitely go WR in the first round. This team still needs dynamic playmakers. Hopefully Harvin solves this, we'll see.

Still an immediate need, Percy although immensely talented can't be relied upon to stay healthy week in and week out. It's takes it to a secondary need, if he remains past this season which I hope. We need to keep talent on this roster.

We still need another outside guy. Percy is best in the slot and Kerley can't play outside. Greg Salas/Shaq Evans are fine 5/6 receivers. Id prefer grabbing a guy early and letting Kerley be the #4 rotating in.

And if we do keep Harvin Id think we will restructure his deal. We will definitely have the upper hand in negotiations.

If he sticks I don't know if we go WR in the first round but we probably wouldn't have done that anyway. We should be able to get a decent WR with some size (we need size!) in the 2nd. I say in the first we'll either go OLine or CB (again). I don't think a receiving core of Decker, Kerley, Harvin, Amaro, Cumberland and some of the lesser guys is all that bad.

IMO it's not a need. Not only is that a very solid group of players, but it means a lot of money tied up in that position. I would say maybe consider drafting a guy in the middle or late rounds pending value or a veteran for depth purposes at most, but then again there's still Shaq Evans and Enunwa stashed, plus Salas and maybe the others to compete. And Amaro also functions much like a wideout with his skill set.

In the scenario of Harvin being a keeper, the team looks to one of many other possible areas of need in the draft (QB/OL/LB/CB)

They'll still need that big 2.0 WR athlete...a la Dez Bryant. So does everybody....

It's like the need for the elite pass rusher off the edge. This is today's NFL

Easier said than done. This is in lieu of having Rodgers, Manning, Tommy Hilfiger, et al.

When have ya them all you do is slug it out for 58 minutes: then ya throw a long pass and get the obligatory 'pass interference'. Ball Game!!

    This is today's NFL

Id rather go Oline early but still big. We need depth at the position. If we can get a great tackle with our 1st rounder do it but if someone like Amari Cooper is there then you jump on it. Having WRs as a legitimate strength will help any QB we bring in or Geno immensely.

It really depends where we are at in the draft and whose available. Good teams don't pass up on players cause they're "set" at a position. That's a huge mistake to make, especially in todays NFL. Saints didn't hesitate to draft Brandin Cooks, Giants didn't hesitate to draft Beckham.

If a guy like Cooper (whose the big name right now) is available when we pick and he's the best player on the board you take him and fit him into your game plan. You don't pass on him because you just signed Jeremy Kerley to an extension. A guy like Harvin, happens to also be very versatile as well which opens things up even more for different packages the Jets could use.

We could restructure it but well have to add guarantees. He's going to command at a minimum what Kerley got in guarantees so the trade off is you won't have flexibility to cut him at anytime (for injury, performance or other reasons)

The 2 most recent Super Bowl winners were the Seahawks and the Ravens. Do either or those teams have a truly elite WR or a truly elite QB?

We still need a number 1 receiver, even if Harvin sticks. But I think we would take a receiver later than earlier. Cooper and White strike me as number 1 guys in the draft.

Russell Wilson and Joe Flacco are elite. It can be argued that Torrey Smith is too....
