you would really prefer a coach who would publicly call out his QB as the team's scapegoat? sounds real classy..
But did they lose all six games. One of the players also made the same excuse and blamed the NFL offices for trying to get them by scheduling those six games in a row. I guess we know where he got it from. How's about beating Kyle Orton then.
Last I checked BP did not help the NYJ win anything while he was here and is just part of our 45 years of rebuilding.
There are a lot of people no here who do care. Some even believe that because the Jets were competitive and had good defensive game plans in those losses he deserves an extension.
Exactly right. Rex cares too much about what's being said about "his" defense, and in turn he loses focus on the rest of the team. Not that gives a rat's ass about the other parts of the team, anyway. If I were Thurman I'd be pissed that they fail to give him any recognition as a coordinator. I can't blame that little bitch Pettine for jumping ship.
Yup. And some don't believe in patting a coach on the back for "looking good" during a 6 game losing streak (if thats even possible). Not blaming the losses on Rex but nobody want's to hear you talk about how competitive you were when your 1-6. Just shutup and get better.
I was wondering where any mention of the offense would be coming in. He's outfront defending his defense but not a word about how his offense did against those same teams considering only ONE blowout loss. Not only was he apparently wrong in his statement, but he appeared once again to not care much what was being said about HIS offense but instead, as usual was defending HIS defense to the bitter end. The Ryan DNA just doesn't recognize Offense. Never has..
Also doesn't recognize clock management, accountability, the fact that his headset can pick up the OC, blah blah blah
So Manish pulls a quote out of Rex, ( most likely baited ). And then goes and cherry picks 3 stats that disprove his baited quote, then writes 1000 words as to why Rex Ryan is an idiot, and you all lap it up like puppies. How about a time of possession comparison? Total snap count? Yards per play? Total points? These are all things that would have to be taken into account to legitimately compare us vs them.
I'm not saying you are wrong here but this is classic Rex defending his vaunted Defense which is just not that great and again why would he say that unless he knew unequivocally he could back it up.
Was this a one 0n one interview with Manish or was the rest of the press corps in the room too? I'm trying to understand how Rex after 6 years could allow himself to be "baited" into such a spirited defense of his defense w/o any mention of his offense by the treacherous NY Media.
He was asked why he thought his defense was struggling,.. We just faced he top 6 QBs in the league all lined up. I think to an extent he has a legitimate case that it was a tough stretch of games and that just about any defense was going to struggle against those QBs, Specially with a struggling offense. Not sure what you guys expect him to say "Our defense sucks, Call in the season"? There's a reason that players love to play for Rex, and I think part of it is the confidence he portrays in his defense.
There are 100s of different ways to answer that question that would make him look less stupid as a HC and without grasping for excuses. Your worst case scenario answer is not one of them. He wasn't really "baited" into anything, but he certainly took the bait. The coordinator in him came out again... on his own accord. I'm not paid the big bucks to answer these questions but even off the top of my head I can come up with a better response. A simple "We are 1-6, every facet of this football team could be described as struggling and should be under the microscope." would suffice. Even "player's coaches" we've had here had the gall to take the no excuses approach. "We play to win the game..." sound familiar? - - That quote about a losing team that was struggling with "moral victories" reads better and resonates better with the players as well than "we play to keep opposing QBs statistics down - provided they aren't considered good. Then we try to keep them better than most teams. "
This is an idiotic article. It's the definition of sweeping statistics that are not properly divided into categories.
