Harvin is legit he just needs to stay healthy. Harvin will stretch field. He can take those 3 yard passes and gain tons of yards. He can be used on end arounds. He's a weapon. He'll improve our offense. Solidifying the Oline is key. For Geno or whoever we pick up in the future.
If you can use conjecture to prove a "point" then so can I. Harvin/Decker/Kerley is a good corp if healthy. Wide receiver wouldn't be a priority. We still need to see what we have in the young guys from the 2014 draft. Solidifying the line for Geno or the next QB would make more sense.
I absolutely agree we need a veteran who can come in and make an immediate impact, start right away Absolutely, we need a guy that can come in and make an immediate impact at the corner position. Byron Maxwell is a good choice, as is Revis but we all know the problems there. As of right now tho we do not have that guy on our roster and thats why I'm saying its important, will that change by draft time, hopefully. I don't think we can afford to have a cornerback develop, not in our situation. Still adding a wide receiver in the early rounds takes a backseat to the Oline, QB, and even OLB.
Steven Jackson is available from Tampa in spite of what they say. He would come cheap and he has a few good years left. A big receiver on the outside would be a real weapon. As of now it's about next year. Not too early to to get the plan in place.
Vincent Jackson is not on our radar. His salary for 2015 $10 million, there's no way he comes here. There's a very small chance the Bucs cut him and we pick him up in the offseason on a short term deal, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Maybe if Harvin doesn't work out. Stedman Bailey is a guy I'd go after right now, he's lost in the WR shuffle with an OC who doesn't know what's going on.
Plus it would be nice for Geno to have his favorite HS & College WR to throw to. They've got some pretty good chemistry.
Are you saying you'd trade for him? Trading for unproven players is not something generally considered wise.
You pay big money for WR's. As long as it's not a long term deal. Year to year is fine. Trading deadline is the 28th. Look for plenty of players to move. If you wait until the FA period it costs a lot more.
You don't pay $30 million to one WR corps, and Vincent Jackson sure as hell won't get any $10 million if he becomes a FA this year.
What?!!? You don't pay big money on every WR, long term or short term. The trading deadline is the 28th and look for not a lot of movement. FA doesn't cost a draft pick.
Bailey is ok..... if you drafted him in the middle round two years ago. He hasn't done anything in the NFL and you certainly don't trade a pick for him. A guy like him in free agency would be ok... if he is cheap, has potential and can battle for the third WR spot with the depth we have accumulated.
Right now? No. This off season I would absolutely consider it, especially if we are planning for Geno to start next year.
