Who cares about value anymore. We have so much unused cap space and roster holes because we were so stringent on only dishing out value deals.
Totally false. Like I said, I like Harvin as a player, so I don't think he's going to be a bust. I expect him to fairly significantly improve on his SEA production because they were mind numbingly bad at using him to his full potential. I'm just saying that spending $7.1M in roll over cap space in a season you are 1-6 in is idiotic. Coupled with his base salary of $10.5M, that essentially means you are paying $17.6M in 2015 cap space to have Percy Harvin for the rest of this year which is already over for the Jets, and next year. I'd much rather have the $17.6M in cap space in 2015.
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet 30s31 seconds ago The #Seahawks received a conditional 6th round pick in 2014 that can become a 4th rounder in exchange for new #Jets WR Percy Harvin.
It looks that way. Currently it's being reported that it's a 6th-rounder that can escalate to a 4th rounder.
You're wrong. The $10.5M salary is for 2015, not 2014. He won't get paid that unless we decide to keep him for 2015, which means we think he's worth that money (since it's not at all guaranteed).
This. So much this. I was fine with tanking the season in the hopes of greener pastures in the future. But this is a bullshit desperation move to save some face in front of the NY media. There is no way to justify spending over a quarter of the money we saved by fielding a JV defensive secondary for an unnecessary and risky rental to come into this abortion of a season. This move does not fit in with The Widz's current approach. It just smack of Woody going Snyder on the Jets again. I'm starting to have serious doubts that we will ever win a SB with Woody's dumbass as owner.
A portion of the mass cap space was to [hopefully] be able to bring in upper-echelon playmakers on offense. So Idzik uses a portion of the mass cap space to acquire an upper-echelon playmaker on offense and it's a problem?
No I'm not wrong, you just misunderstood my post. I knew the $10.5M was for '15, which is why I have referenced the $7.1M in rest of season money that the Jets are using on Harvin this year on several occasions. And if the Jets cut Harvin after this year, words can't explain what a failure this deal was. That means they pissed away $7.1M in cap space and a 6th to 4th round pick in a season they are 1-6 in for absolutely nothing. If they bring him back on the $10.5M base salary, that means when you add in the $7.1M in roll over money they are giving up, they are giving up $17.6M of 2015 cap space to acquire Harvin. A bad investment if you ask me.
Idzik made a good deal to get Harvin. But Seattle's trade by Schneider was a bust. A 6th rounder to maybe a 4th. Hopefully it is a 4th because that means the guy played well. btw there are stories that Harvin punched out Golden Tate last the week before the Super Bowl and at Florida he was infamous for beating up on people. The guy is pretty tough.
Yeah, it would definitely be like that. I don't disagree that the media is very biased and just praises whatever the top teams do while knocking all the bad teams moves.
We don't know what the trade was at this point. Multiple reports just means one person printed a rumor they heard and eleven other guys rushed to reprint it.
I'd much rather pay Revis $12M than Harvin $17.6M, yes. Far better cap management. Plus the Patriots are closer to contending so it makes a little more sense to go all in for what you hope is a final piece to the puzzle like that.
I just gave you another reason besides "I don't like Harvin". So you are wrong. I do like Harvin. Anyone who is interested in the long term sustainable success of the Jets needs to question this move. If you don't, then you are just the type of blind fan that caused this.
The Jets had close to $80M in cap space going into next season. You really think investing $17M of it into Percy Harvin when the offense blows chunks was a bad idea? Who exactly do you think the Jets would better have been able to invest that cap space in?
dude you counted harvin ( rollover damage ) and the 2015 season so in that case it would cost the pats to keep revis in 2015 32M and im not even considering the money you would rollover if you didnt sign revis. Get your math right xd
What part of I like Harvin but don't like Harvin for $17.6M in 2015 cap space is so difficult to understand? If there was no cap and the Jets spent infinite money, I'd love the deal for them because they clearly improved with the addition of a player like Harvin. But there is a cap and as a result you have to factor in how much cap space you are using to acquire a player.
