    I'm genuinely asking this,

Because a talented played became available at idziks price? Or is that too simple? Harvin is on a long contract, I could see the "why now" if harvin is up after this year but we just made a move that added a talented player for 2-3 years

It was reported that the Seahawks will pay his game check this week. Also I think the Seahawks knew they had to cut him at the end of the year because of the big time contracts they have going on. Winning the Super Bowl gave Sherman's and Thomas' contract a boost in salary that wasn't for seen when Harvin got his deal, and it will do the same for Wilson's when he gets it this offseason. They probably would have been open to a more expensive trade earlier in the season, when he was contributing more, but instead of cutting him for nothing, they traded him for some kind of value plus they save the $6 million on this year's cap which as you know will rollover. I think you of all people know that these kind of moves are about money 99% of the time.

It seems like SEA wanted to recoup something from a guy they spent a lot of picks and money on. First on the field, but then when he didn't show whatever they were expecting on the field or in the locker room, they must've then wanted to get something back for the guy. It would've been crazy for them to not even try to see how he'd fare in his 2nd season with the team. I guess they have a great sense of who's not going to work out, and figured they could try to get something back or just cut him in the offseason.

Good for them for recouping one of the picks they gave up. Good for us for getting a playmaker, who's teammates for the most part liked him, who's owed only half what he was owed at the start of the season, and will cost us nothing next year if we move on. And we got a guy that really fits into our offense. I mean I hate the wildcat and WR sweeps that we like to run, but the coaches see value in those formations and plays and now have someone who can execute.

There is less than zero chance Idzik gets fired aftter this season.

I'm not killing Idzik for making the trade, I'm only questioning the timing of the trade. There's more to this than meets the eye.

so says the conspiracy theorist. The answer for the timing is that he wasn't offered until now. More than likely anyway

I think this doesn't make Idzik go out and overpay FA WRs who may touch the market since they have a non guaranteed deal in Harvin. Hopefully this means the Jets turn their attention to the Cornerback and Right Guard positions come Free Agency, those are the two positions they need to work on.

I would be shocked if Harvin's cut after this year, something would have to go wrong with Harvin if he was cut.

When we hear from the teams we'll know what the deal was. I'm guessing it is more complicated than anything that has been reported yet. Teams don't trade a 1st, a 3rd and a 7th for a player and then turn around and dump them for a late draft pick a year and a half later.

If it really is a conditional late rounder then the odds are good that Harvin is hurt and unlikely to play much for the Jets until the bye.

@RapSheet: The #Seahawks received a conditional 6th round pick in 2014 that can become a 4th rounder in exchange for new #Jets WR Percy Harvin.

    Wow. Even better deal!

The truth is out there... (Cue X-files theme in 3...2...1...)

Randy's first Qb was Chad Pennington at Marshall. I think Chad like Brady lobbied to get Randy. As I remember it reading a few articles Brady told BB that Moss was the scariest Wr in the NFL at that time.

I bet if the Jets keep Harvin until ____ date, it becomes a 5th round pick.
If Harvin plays __ snaps or games this year and is kept for next year, it becomes a 4th round pick.

    Probably something along those lines.

I just read Cimini's column on the trade on ESPN.com. Negative of course and pro-Rex all the way. He basically said to little too late. And that Idzik was throwing Rex a crumb so he can't say that Idzik was out to get him. When he fires him. How does he know? The Seahawks weren't shopping Harvin until (reportedly) two weeks ago. Possibly Idzik got the first call (and there were other teams interested) because of his relationship with Schneider.

A conditional 6th rounder?!?! What a steal. Already loved this deal, but now love it even more.
