hahaha dude, Im saying he MIGHT not have been available in the beginning of the year. So you are 100% convinced that Harvin was there in the store window for the last 6 months and Idzik only decided to get him now because hes covering his ass?

Since Harvin was an afterthought in Seattle, with that cap number one can definitely see why Seattle would dump him. However, wasn't his cap number the same at the start of the season? Did they not see this cap charge coming then? Why wait until now when the exact same scenario existed at the start of the season? Maybe no one wanted to give Seattle their asking price? I could believe that depending on if such a price existed and what that price was. Again, the Jets got him for DP's and that's good considering how we always screw up our dp's. We're probably better off trading them anyway. If Harvin had any value to the Hawks, he'd still be a Hawk.

So now he's a Jet. Lets see what he brings to the table besides a dubious reputation. I just hope he's not a redux of Rex's old Wr buddy from the Ravens (Mason) that didn't work out.

For the last 6 months, weren't we told we were set at Wr with Decker and Kerley? We had no reason to look for another Wr after passing on so many during the draft and FA. We weren't 1-6 then either.

ok, so maybe after 7 games, Idzik realized we weren't ok at WR and Seattle called and offered Harvin. Like I and a few other people said earlier in the thread it REALLY appears as though Harvin was NOT available at the start of the season. If Seattle shopped him before the start, coming off his SB performance and having not accumulated any further reports of his being a malcontent, don't you think someone would have made an offer---much more than a 4th rounder mind you...don't you think out of all the 4,000 media outlets we have looking for any story possible that we would have heard HARVIN WAS BEING SHOPPED? Think about it Cman.....the shefters and claytons and all these clowns not one single peep about Harvin being traded. Its is HUGELY more likely that Harvin just became available recently versus being available for 5 months.

And if your point is that Idzik was an asshole for not thinking we needed WR help in the Spring , then fine. Would you rather he realize now that he was an asshole and he was wrong or would you rather he NOT get Harvin and continue to tell everyone we're good at WR?

No one is killing the Jets on this move ( Since its a really low risk)high reward move) except for that fat cunt Francesa and HALF OUR FAN BASE

No, his cap number from the Jets perspective was $11M at the start of the season. That was his guaranteed salary for 2014. The Seahawks have swallowed $4.53M of that as they have paid him for the first part of the season. I'm not sure exactly how it works but Harvin played 5 games and 6 weeks with the Seahawks and now comes to the Jets for 9 games and 10 weeks. the remaining portion of guaranteed salary is put on the Jets cap with some adjustments made for the fact that the Seahawks have already had their bye and the Jets have not and that the Jets had already played their 7th game before Harvin was acquired. I don't know who pays Harvin's game check this week.

There's no way of knowing exactly why the Seahawks made the Harvin move now and the decision probably has a bunch of complex factors that we're not going to see looking at it just from an OTC perspective.

Every possible factor that could be used to reflect the Jets in a poor light will be explored by the media at this point. It's just what they do.

Which brings me to my original question. Why now? Its not so much the trade was made, its the timing of the trade that makes a lot of us suspicious. What happened between the start of the season and week 7 that made Seattle want to burn the bridge? Why so cheap a price if Harvin still had some value? We got him for next to nothing and we're risking nothing. Seattle simply unloaded Harvin and their old buddy John Idzik was right there to snap him up why? Because JI knew he fucked up the offseason by not signing or drafting an additional quality Wr to compliment Decker and Kerley and it was showing on the field.

Maybe Seattle was feeling generous and felt bad for the Jets so they made this deal to help out an old buddy and dump salary at the same time. Sure why not..

That was the point I was making or so I thought.. I'm just hoping Percy Harvin isn't the second coming of Derrick Mason.

He's 26, not 33. I think it's more likely he becomes Santonio Holmes if you're looking for a comparison. Hopefully he just balls for us.

I should have reference my Mason analogy from the attitude side and yeah, Santonio would have been a better fit. :)

GREAT! That's great news. JI realized he fucked up SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, hes trying to fix that mistake. And you said it yourself that we're risking nothing. So why so many people killing Idzik??

This pretty much kills any chance of the Seattle OC coming here, major problems with him I here. This is good news though because Seattle fans cant stand their OC (but who can?)

Lesser teams take larger risks and put up with a lot more shit from a play maker than a world champion team does. I don't really know but I suspect Harvin is a difficult person to coach and a difficult player to share a locker room with. Add his injury history, anger issues, and the fact the Seahawks offensive schemes will be fine without him. I'm sure there was a small applause in the locker room once news broke. Everyone likes seeing an angry diva get kicked to the curb (or to the Jsts which is worse) no matter how much potential he has.

Why is it that game changers always seem to be fucked in the head? Dez Bryant, Santonio Holmes, now Harvin? They must have been babied their entire lives and have no personality or fortitude to deal with real life shit in the NFL.

    Great question why now?

I like the player and the move but I question the timing of it, now that the season is pretty much over.

Smacks of a desperation move to coverup for not getting playmakers to this point.

Derrick Mason was 36 or 37 when he came to the Jets.

    Percy Harvin is 26.

ah, just saw this. I agree then. If hes Mason, we cut him.

My .02 in this whole trade is that I really believe they wanted to give Geno another weapon to properly evaluate him since we might be staring at a top 7 pick this year. I would sure like to have a better idea of what I have in Geno before Im on that clock

We're never going to know all the motivations for the deal on either side. Nothing the media is reporting now is reliable so we can't even get good background on the deal. If somebody on the Seattle or Jets side went on the record to talk about the timelines involved we'd figure a lot of that out. I wouldn't hold your breath on that one.

I really think my conspiracy theory above: the Jets offense sucks and Seattle decided to part with Harvin due to him not performing to his cap number on a soon-to-be overburdened cap, is probably the most logical one and least likely to be definitively disproved at this point.

I don't think any of the conspiracy theories will be disproved though. Most NFL front offices are very tight-lipped about the deals they make and unless a coach or player who really knows what went on slips up the workings of even very big deals aren't known for years.

Understood. I should have said Santonio. I was referencing their mental states, not so much their physicality.

This is probably right. If the Jets do go to Vick having Harvin on hand will be important also. Putting Vick in for Geno before the trade wouldn't have accomplished much because the talent on that side of the ball was lacking. Now there's more of it if Harvin can stay on the field.

It's my understanding that the conditional pick that the Jets gave up with a sixth rounder. No official word from the teams yet. #nyj

    wow a 6th rounder
