He's going to return punts. No reason not to. If he gets hurt we dump him after the season. He's a spark in the return game no reason to waste it.
I really liked the Haiti adoption story on Nelson a few weeks ago. The guy sounds like a great person. I hope he is able to find success somewhere else. That being said he added very little and the younger developmental players likely have more upside. I would rather have kept Clyde Gates to start the season than Nelson.
he was just awful this season, we all saw this coming. ever since that pats game last year he's done nothing but regress. he basically had a full season, he had his chances
I liked Nelson but he was a depth player at best, and was getting exposed this year. I hope he gets a job elsewhere though.
i was actually thinking yesterday if he had over 100 yards receiving this year. i then thought he MUST, he's started every game only had 65 yards lol. still a good dude so he'll be missed
Nelson stinks. Played well for us last year but he's easily replaceable. When I saw a report come across the bottom line of my tv about Harvin traded to the Jets I checked twitter on my phone, first thing I saw was David Nelson had just followed Percy Harvin......
Really sad to see David Nelson get cut. He's been one of my fave guys on the team. But I gotta admit that's got less to do with what he did on the field than with the fact he's just a total class act, does so much for kids in Haiti, orphans specifically. Great guy, just a shame it didn't work out. I can understand on some level why the team let him go with Harvin coming onboard now... business side of the NFL just sucks sometimes. Hope he finds a good team to play for and success, the guy deserves it.
Thought they'd keep Nelson on board because he was college teammates with Percy Harvin so Harvin would really know somebody right away from the team to maybe ease him to the team. Not sure what they see in TJ Graham.
That's too bad, he's a great guy, but the production wasn't there. Plus the fact that he doesn't do special teams doesn't help I'm sure.
Nelson is a great guy, but at this point in his career he should just focus on his charity work and forget about football. He isn't much of a player.
It wasn't just quiet. It was bad. Nelson did many good things for us last year (and I really like him as a person, with his charity work, etc.)... but this year PFF has ranked him as the worst starting WR in the league. This might be due to an ankle injury, but the fact of the matter is that Nelson has been expendable since week 1 or 2. The other WR I'm worried about is Kerley. Though this trade might signal the fact that he will be gone this off-season, I really hope he can step it up over the next few weeks. He has virtually disappeared and I can't seem to figure out why.
Nelson was very good for us last season, but dreadful this year. PFF had him dead last among qualifying receivers this season. No hard feelings, just time to move on. These younger guys are Betsey playmakers, gotta see what we have.
My football sense & heart are going in different directions. Nelson has been terrible but was hoping another bottom-tier WR would be cut because I really admire all the charity work he's done. Hopefully, he can land on somebody's practice squad. Passing judgement on strictly football performance, it's a sound move.
