losing winters resulted in an upgrade. I think the cries of D'Bricks demise are overblown but I haven't studied his play or anything. Now if we could just cure our colon cancer ...
I am not a fan of the trade. It uses a ton of cap space ($ 7 million we will not be carrying over to next year plus another 10 million next year that is $ 17 million less next year to spend) for a player who appears to have a lot of problems. But there are positives. He brings some much needed speed. He can run the Jet sweep giving us the option of handing it to Ivory up the middle, Harvin on the sweep or Geno on a zone read or Geno on a pass. Just having Harvin there should open up room for Ivory force edge rushers to back off a bit and give Geno a little more time. I would love to see Geno run some zone reads giving the Jets 3 running options. That would make this offense hard to defense. Add in using the hurry up like we used the 1st two games and our offense might be decent. I just question the idea of using so much cap space for someones garbage that was not wanted any more. It just smells of a desperation move by Idzik to protect his job for next year. This could really blow upon the Jets. But some times players need a second or third chance and Harvin hopefully will be on best behavior this year and next. Edit: I have to wonder how much Woody Johnson is behind this move. As it appears he was the driving force behind the Favre and Tebow acquisitions designed to bring him publicity. Woody is such a bad owner. But then again there are so many bad Jerry Jones type owners in the league.
But you can't evaluate trades in a vaccum as if it's just a Madden15 deal, there's actual cap/locker room/injury concerns. And you can't just automatically accuse the media of bias for reporting issues in Seattle. If you think the media's making all this **** up then why has Harvin been traded twice, once from a team that clearly needed him the other from a team that gave up a **** ton to get him a year and a half ago?
Its funny that the same people that complain about our drafts are the ones now complaining that we might eventually have to give up a 2nd rounder. Always glass half empty.
Woody better invest in a entire staff of MDs, Trainers. Etc in a attempt to keep PH playable thru the rest of this season
The reports on the conditional pick the Jets sent to Seattle are not accurate, I'm told. What has been reported is too high. #nyj I'm not sure of exact parameters of the conditional pick but it won't go as high as second round, per source. #nyj @briancoz
jets fans hate the media for the most part, but take everything they say seriously why does this stuff about him being an awful teammate come out now? people always want clicks
"Percy Harvin on Seattle = Game changing weapon… Percy Harvin on Jets = trouble making, injury prone, overpaid receiver" Media at their best.
I agree on the fact he isn't much risk for the team, but a few things I am concerned about in this trade. Why does Seattle get rid of a guy they gave up a 1st and another pick for? He obviously had off the field issues there. This seems like the same scenario wihen we got Santonio Holmes. Harvin could very easily play his but off this year and get a good extension with guaranteed money and then whine about everything thereafter. Another thing I question is that with all the free agent wide receivers that are going to be out there in the offseason, why do we need Harvin at this point? The season is already lost, why not just continue our fall so we can get the draft pick?
Not only that but they make it seem like Harvin just punched Tate for no reason. There is alwayyssss a reason. And up until now Ive heard more drama based stuff about Tate then Harvin. But you're right, typical NY media. And the fans just eat it up.
This is a good move by the FO. Add a dynamic guy that can make the offense better, and get 9 games to audition both Harvin and Geno to see if he is the guy. This does give the offense a guy that can actually spread the field though, something they severely lacked. They hardly throw any long balls (when they do Geno overthrows a covered receiver anyways), perhaps Harvin can be the guy that grabs those overthrows. This also feels like it could be Geno's version of Tavon Austin, that alone could be stellar. Also fixes the return issues that have plagued this team. It goes overlooked because it's such a small part of the game, but their average starting field position off the return is terrible. Not worried about his durability, it's a tryout, just let the dude do it all. Only cons I see- More Wildcat ugh. Not a CB. He will have limited knowledge of the playbook this season.
I'm not the one who is biased. Compare NE's and this deals. Even if everything about locker room is true, this deal is miles better that what NE did with Albert. This is a solid deal with great upside and little downside. Yet it's reported as Jets got screwed. The most amazing is that this was the angle right from the beginning, before any details were known. ESPN, Fatseca ... Immediate reaction, 5 minutes after the deal was announced was "what's wrong with Harvin?" The trade was and is not evaluated on its merit. It is automatically assumed that Jets cannot possibly make a good move. Therefore something must be bad about this deal.
Well said. I like how you brought up NE because I was thinking if they made this trade what would be the reaction lol. "Belichick shows his genius again" etc etc..ugh it would be sickening. But true. But since its us the skepticism is at an all time high.
Harvin with Brady would definitely be a lot more dangerous than Harvin with Geno but I get what you're saying.
I think Harvin's personality definitely wore out in Seattle, but keep in mind Seattle doesn't have much cap flexibility right now and they need to re-up Wilson and Wagner among others on that team. Eventually they needed to do something like this to keep some of the players on expiring rookie contracts. I think this is a different scenario than Holmes. I think this is more in line with Braylon Edwards. Someone in his prime who needed a change of scenery and didn't 'fit' with the current regime. Harvin is a value play. He's locked up for the foreseeable future with no dead money attached to him if he's cut. Getting a top receiver in offseason would mean shelling out similar type dough, only this way a good portion of it would be guaranteed. If Harvin regains his '11/'12 form, a top receiver for what is presumably a 3rd rounder (at the worst), he's an absolute steal.
