I like the move. We're 1-6, what do we have to lose. I'm hoping we win out and make the playoffs at 10-6. "You play, to win, the game!"
- We are now most likely going to win an extra 2 - 3 games and will have a worse 1st round pick. heavens me, actually WINNING? say it ain't so joe! what an AWFUL THING TO HAVE TO AN OFFENSIVE WEAPON ABOARD THAT HELPS US WIN. ITS NOT LIKE BUILDING A WINNING TEAM IS THE GOAL OF THE FRANCHISE OR ANYTHING. I'm sorry but the only difference between winning 7 games and winning 3 games is the draft pick and if we end up winning 7 or so, it's just going to hurt us later. We saw the exact same thing in the 2014 draft. We ended up going 8-8 and picked #18 in the draft. If we had gone 6-10 instead, we would have picked 9th or 10th. At 18th we got Calvin Pryor. At 9th we could have gotten Odell Beckham Jr or Kyle Fuller. For all we know Pryor ends up being better than most or all of those guys, but the difference is that we had to settle for a Safety when we really needed a WR or CB. Like I said I hate this Harvin move. All it is, is a distraction from Idzik to get Jet fans looking a different direction, and get them to change their tune. Just look at this forum all day. Some Jet fans are acting like we may actually win the next 9 in a row.
I will only like this trade when i see the terms , if we give up a high 2º round pick its very disapointing because thats nearly a first round pick.
I just don't give a shit about getting better draft position. Its not a bad thing for pieces to find a winning rhythm, I'd rather have a current crop of players beginning to pan out than increasingly need a whole new crop to show up. it just means somethings gone right with players already on the team, and we don't need as much help, because the more we win the less we need that prospect in the first place. Winning doesn't hurt a team, winning CAN'T hurt a team, it just means things are going well. I don't know why people wouldn't want something to go right with their team and would prefer to fall so far that they have to take a leap of faith with an unknown, I'd rather the guys already here be an answer. higher draft picks shouldn't be something we hope for, ever.
Kelvin White, Rashad Greene, Stefon Diggs, and Justin Hardy are all receivers that there are a good chance would be available where the Jets will pick in the 2nd round. If we end up giving up a 2nd rounder then I am done defending Idzik. Percy Harvin is a good player, but he has NEVER been great. Everyone called Eric Decker a #2 receiver but he has 2 1,000 yard seasons. Harvin has none. He's Mike Wallace 2.0. Over payed based on potential and that's it.
Yeah.....I would MUCH rather the players we already have be good, but the reality is some of them just fucking suck. Kyle Wilson. Willie Colon. David Nelson. Brian Winters. Darrin Walls. Quinton Coples. Antonio Allen (atleast at CB). You can be a 3-13 or 4-12 team in the NFL, and then turn around the next and win 10 or 11 games. A few different plays and bounces here and there, and a few less bullshit penalty calls on the Jets this year and we have 4 or 5 wins. The entire team does not need to be gutted whether we win 2 or win 10. Ivory is a Top 10 RB. Decker is on pace for 900 - 1000 yards this year, and is much more legit then anyone gave him credit for. Amaro is playing like a Top 10 TE already. This team isn't that far off, but this season is shot. The only thing left to win is a better draft pick. The "real" victories from here on out might as well just be the moral victories we are already getting.
I'm just confused with this. I don't mind us giving up a draft pick as long as its not in the top two rounds. But the timing of this is just so wrong. We have basically rented him out for the rest of the season to see if he fits, When we are already 1-6. If we had done it two weeks back then maybe it made a lot more sense. He has a high cap number also for a slot receiver. That said even though we are a team being built like Seattle we have to have some star players. MM uses these kind of players and plays way more than more OC's so I can see him already having a ton of plays for him to use. This and the fact that he can help a lot on the special teams play. If opposing teams have to game plan for him it can open up more space for Amaro and Decker who are get crowded due to our lack of down field threat. I like the player. I like what he brings. I don't understand the timing at all. And I don't want us giving up a draft pick higher than round 3 for a mid season rental. If we was 3-4 and still in with a high chance it made more sense.
The exact conditions of the traded pick are kinda important. Are they for this year, or the next, and what would Harvin have to do for it to move from 4th to 3rd or 2nd? One thing to consider is that the Jets aren't that far away from being a competitive team, with secondary and another WR being some of the biggest needs. If Harvin works out, the WR need is met, and between the draft, and signings with our huge cap this offseason, we could plug most of those, and be a decent team next year. Hopefully no more brutal schedules too. If that happens, and the conditional pick is for 2016 draft, it could be much less valuable, much lower in whichever round it is. Everyone keeps repeating that Harvin is injury prone, and maybe that's true, but just looking at his career stats, he is in his 6th NFL season. 4 of those 6 (so far) he has played the vast majority games, and only missed like 1 or 2. Another season he played 9 out 0f 16 games. So he's only had one season that was a complete loss, last year with Seattle. The other interesting thing is whether Idzik will be able to get Harvin to resign for less money down the line. This year, he will make about 7 million from us, about the same as Decker (for less games though). That's not bad at all. Then, there's 3 years for 10 million each, and the last year of the contract is 11 million. We can cut him any one of those years, as soon as he's not cutting it (no pun intended) or we have better options to throw money at. So some possible scenarios: - Harvin sucks and/or is injured and/or clashes with teammates -> we cut him, losing 4th round pick - Harvin plays decently -> we lose maybe a 3rd rounder, but we arent going to pay him 10 million a year for decent play, and if we cut him, he will have a hard time finding a team to pay him that kind of money, given his history then. So in this case, it will be in both sides' interest to renegotiate for a lesser deal, maybe similar to Decker, 7 mil a year or less. - Harvin plays at his Minnesota days/Superbowl level -> we probably lose a 2nd round pick, and have to keep paying him 10 million a year, for a few years. I would ideally prefer cheaper WRs, like Decker, but since our cap situation is pretty good, and since we can cut him any time we need to, it's not the worst situation in the world. 10 million for a really good receiver/weapon is not too bad. Also, I wonder how this all plays into Kerley being a free agent this offseason. Resigning Kerley would probably cost us 4-6 million a year, so maybe that's another reason Idzik wanted to do this trade. If Harvin works out, we can probably let Kerley go, and still have a fairly impressive receiving corp with Decker, Harvin, and Amaro, and we can plug in some cheaper guys after that, like Evans, Enunwa, and maybe a lower draft pick this offseason. If you subtract money saved on Kerley from Harvin's 10 mil a year, it starts looking even better.
Jets fans are the type that would win the lottery then complain about the taxes they took out, it's just our nature. I'd love for this trade to pan out. I'd love to watch exciting football on a consistent basis and have a player(s) that put fear into opposing coaches minds and cause them to lose sleep at night. The problem with the shell shocked Jet fan base is we always expect to get screwed. we've just been burned so many times in so many different ways that you're always waiting for the other shoe to drop. This trade on paper looks great; It fills a HUGE need Gives us a dynamic player who adds excitement to a stagnant offense Makes everyone else around him that much better just lining up at the line of scrimmage, etc. The biggest problem I have is the timing of the deal. If this is a one and done kind of deal and Harvin is gone next season then it reeks of being a panic move by our GM to shut up the fans and media screaming that we have $21 million in cap space and a team devoid of talent. There's no upside to Harvin for this year coming to a 1-6 team, we're not winning out because of him. This has to be about the team going forward and how Harvin fits into the building of our offense going forward. Decker Harvin Kearly Ivory Amaro That looks pretty impressive going forward. I'm PRAYING it works out.
I get what you are saying, but one thing to consider is that Harvin brings certain things to the table that his receiving stats dont show. He has a lot of running yards, much more than most WRs, so that's something to take into equation. His speed and the way Marty can creatively use him can do a lot of things to open up our offense. Defenses essentially have to assign people to follow him and/or cut off his running lanes, which helps our WRs, running backs, and possibly lessens pressure on the QB. We can potentially do a lot of tricky misdirection stuff and play action fakes (at least Im hoping Geno can do this better). And finally Harvin can also do serious damage in the return game. All of these things you won't see in receiving stats, but there is a reason Seattle trades 1st round, 3rd and 7th for him.
Jets didnt had a pro bowl receiver since K Johnson in the 90s xD when they said that on fox i laughed
Put me on the record as being against this. The slightest references of a guy being considered a locker room problem would have me call the doctor and order him to give a failing physical. We've been through that shit before -- it destroyed the team. Seattle traded a 1st, 3rd and 7th rounder, a ton of guaranteed $$$$ and is giving up on him after less than 10 games should also give us pause no matter what peanuts they are asking for in return. Can't find a fit for him in the offense????? Bullshit. Guy gets into fights on a team that is WINNING games and he'll come here and be a model citizen?? I'd rather rollover the cash to next year and keep the 4th rounder to build the team's roster ---- provided we improve our drafting a little bit. Last year's 4th round class (Saunders, Evans and Dozier) is a lot of TBD.
i find it very intriguing that we are currently in the midst of a multi year, WR talent influx, from big time colleges and yet the jets top 2 starting receivers have been obtained via FA and trade..... does anyone else have an issue with this?? maybe he can play CB?? or maybe our GM is really trying to pull the rabbit out and protect his second round QB pick who really looks like a dud.
It's definitely concerning, no doubt about that. I agree that we could have had Brandin Cooks, Kelvin Benjamin and the list goes on. The more I think about it, the more I realize this trade is a total act of desperation. Not to mention the numerous holes that this depleted roster currently has. The Jets need every single draft pick they have, whether it's a 2nd or a 4th that they're giving up for Harvin. His salary next year is ridiculous and makes it almost impossible for the Jets to sign him to an extension without screwing up their cap and preventing them from filling the numerous holes on this team. The Jets could have drafted young stud WR's and bring them in at the rookie salary and have solved this issue. Granted, no guy coming out of college is a proven thing but Harvin has serious red flags with injuries and staying on the field. In short, it just seems like a 9 game rental in a season that's already over. And in the process the Jets are paying him several million dollars for 9 games. Total desperation move by Idzik and Woody to save face and act like they care. This move completely demonstrates that Woody Johnson has ZERO clue how to build long term success for an NFL franchise. John Idzik's famous words are build through the draft. He has totally contradicted his position with a poor draft and several highly questionable moves via FA. The timing of this move is bizarre. This is also a somewhat alarming sign because this may signal that Woody thinks his FO and CS are doing fine and no changes need to be made. If this is the case, then the fans of this team are severely f*cked. Blow it up!
Seattle si responsible for all the bonus/gauranteed money. the jets can cut harvin at any time with no cap hit/dead money. its a really good move. they get a playmaking (we certainly need one) 26 year old WR/Returner without giving up a ton without a lot of risk should it go south.
if we keep harvin, i seriously doubt it will be at 11m per year, both sides would be smart to tear up that contract.... the jets for a lower per year figure, harving for more gauranteed money(he hasnt been super durable)
he didnt fail... he had a smart plan. issue is the disconnect with the fanbase. the jets FO views this as the middle of the rebuild. delusional fans think we should throw idiotic money at players to come in and give us an average team that wont compete for anything, and then be in the same boat we were before idzik - bad teamw ith no QB that is in cap hell if we had say Tate and DRC we would be marginally better, we'd used up a ton of cap space, we wouldnt be contenders, and we'd be in trouble when it came time to lock up guys like mo and sheldon. its the same mistake we made when we threw iditoic money at santontio holmes and company
