Not true Miami is paying the most for the group at 22 million figure with Harvin the Jets are at 17 to 18 million http://www.spotrac.com/rankings/nfl/wide-receiver/
It could be more than just an additional 5th though. After giving up a 1st, a 3rd, and a 7th to get him, the Hawks may have been asking for a 1st, or a 1st and a 5th. I am cool with the deal because we aren't giving up much but I definitely wouldn't have been ok with a 1st, and the Hawks may have believed they could get one.
I don't like this. If a franchise like Seattle is letting him go - that should be a big flashing [RED ALERT.] As it happens - he's a big headcase. I don't know whether he won't turn into Santonio Holmes. I've had it with headcases. Better stay away from them, regardless of the talent.
Dennis Waszak Jr. @DWAZ73 1h1 hour ago The Twitter outrage from #Seahawks teammates at Harvin being traded to #Jets doesn't support the chatter that he was a disliked malcontent.
True but the Seahawks didnt have many trade partners. I couldnt see them sending him within the NFC or any of the top AFC teams so they leaves about 10 teams or so. Then if you look into those 10 teams, I doubt all had enough cap so its probably around 5 or so teams has feasible trade partners, most of which probably dont need a reciever that badly. The Jets had a leg up in regards to trading for him, but who knows, perhaps Settle waited just to get some production out of him before he leaves.... Its all irrelevant now and its all speculation anyway.
Jesus, there really is no pleasing Jets fans. Some of you really drag this fan base down. "We need to get a WR" - says most of you A DAY AGO. So we go out and get one, and 75% of you fall into one of these categories: 1. "Why do we get one when we're 1-6?" 2. "He's a cancer." (yet most of you wanted him before the season) 3. "Good trade b/c Idzik would have blown the pick." 4. "He costs too much money." 5. "Who's throwing him the ball??" 6. "Can he play CB?" 7. "Can he coach?" 8. "Is he the new GM?" I appreciate the posters who have some rational viewpoint and can actually have a discussion about something logically and formulate an actual opinion rather than spit out the same drivel day in and day out. Like the trade or hate it, I swear some people just like to complain non-stop.
Seattle had to let him go, they didnt have a choice really. Its either move him or lose Sherman or Wilson.
I agree that it's all speculation, that's why all I'm saying is there's hardly a guarantee that this trade could have been done before the season or in the earliest weeks.
Late to the party, but this caught me way off guard at work. Kind of hyped, but then again he's having a bad season. Maybe the change of scenery will help him, and more importantly us!
We run for 220 yards and still lost, plus doubled the time of possession and yes lost. Geno had an average night and you kiss his ass. When Smith throws for 58% and doesn't give up an INT, everyone hails him, not me. We are running the simplest offense in the NFL and if not for our running game we would be 0-7 and looking even worse. If we could run for over 200 yards a game two years ago, maybe Sanchez would still be our QB and a few more playoff wins. I'm not a Sanchez fan either, but h was better than Smith ort Vick. Hell I would rather have Simms in their at QB.
You make a good point but it's not like the Jets are fiscally committed to him for many years. His guaranteed money runs out this year and the Jets can cut him without having dead money on the cap. The most the Jets can lose in this deal is a second round pick which we will find out when the details on the conditional pick come out. This is a low risk high reward move for the Jets. It sucks that it didn't come earlier but who knows what the market for Harvin was like a few weeks ago.
Sherman got signed this offseason, so they definitely won't lose him. They'd definitely keep Wilson too, they'd figure out a way but they'd be crazy tight on the cap, plus Malcolm Smith, KJ Wright, and Bryron Maxwell are all FA this year.
He's still a massive improvement over David Nelson and at worst can free things up for Decker and Amaro. Hopefully he'll be used on special teams and can provide a spark. With CJ being over the hill the Jets are desperate for some players who can impact a game all on their own.
He has 22 catches this year, yet getting $10.5M, not a good season at all. You don't give up 3 draft picks, one being a 1st rounder, plus $10.5M a year for that. When you cut a 1st round trade after 1 season for a possible 5th round pick, it is too good or too bad to be true.
Smith is better than Sanchez and Simms. Give Geno Smith the supporting cast we had in 2009-2010, and we might just have won a superbowl one of those years.
I know me too! I really REALLY don't want an explosive playmaking receiver that we can cut with no penalty after this season if he doesn't pan out! That would be so horrible!
Two examples: Randy Moss and Chad Johnson. Both great WRs. Both a little nuts. Both went to the Pats. One caught 23 touchdowns in a season, the other is playing in Canada. Not saying Harvin is either, but just that sometimes it's worth taking the risk. Plus the loss is minimized with what we gave up.
