Can you imagine the Patriot fan rage if they got called for a penalty on a missed field goal and then we won it again? Oh my god that would be hilarious

A ref pushing a player, effectively saving a penalty less than two seconds from a snap???

I'd love to see you post one example

Do refs do this on the most critical play of the game???

They reset players on FGs and XPs all the time. Idk about most critical ones or not but who cares. Its a stupid rule anyway it shouldn't be deciding games.

So here is the rule: 9-1-3 (a): "When Team A presents a punt, field-goal, or Try Kick formation, a Team B player, who is within one yard of the line of scrimmage, must have his entire body outside the snapper’s shoulder pads at the snap."

The rule states the player cannot be within 1 yard of the LOS at snap. Hightower appears to be inside the snappers shoulder pads but is at least 2 if not 3 yards back from the LOS when the official interferes with him. And, of course, where he intended to be at the snap is a matter of conjecture, although the defensive tackles crashing that hole would seem to indicate that the snapper was not his intended target.

And of course, in the NFL's guidance to teams it was explained that officials will guide players on this issue pre-snap, as they have been doing throughout the season.

One thing to tell a player when he's facing you, during a regular 2nd down in the 2nd quarter.

It's Another thing to walk up to him on his blind side, and physically push him when the snap is less than two seconds away on the final play that will decide the outcome of the game.

Did you not read the article?

    It's a player SAFETY RULE.

    It's not a Patriot conspiracy.

And why do you keep bringing up deciding the outcome of games. It's the same WHENEVER it happens.

    Oh I missed this nugget.

Who kicks a FG on second down?

It only applies to KICKS where the center has his head down and can't protect himself.

And you want calls made differently because of how crucial it is in game time?

Lol, knew these shitty threads were coming.

Well it could happen on 2nd down with a few seconds left in the 2nd.

That's not what he said. He said regular second down in the second quarter.

    He's just being whiny.

Don't be him. Read the NFLs explanation.

It's done so centers don't get concussed or paralyzed.

I really believe that the ref wanted no part in having to call a penalty on a game ending FG try. He was fully aware of what happened last year, and probably feared he would be torn to shreds if he threw a flag. Especially after a miss.

I was referring to an official interfering with any player in that 2nd down analogy(this can apply to many cases). Good job completely missing the point of the argument though.

Like arguing with a brick wall...

You don't think it's more critical to be more objective and accurate on the really critical plays??

From a Ref's perspective, botched calls happen all the time. You don't think they are more aware of getting things accurate on the biggest plays of a game?? Perhaps deciding not to nudge a tackle when the snap is imminent? What if the ball was snapped two seconds earlier???

I can't find it on YouTube but I've seen an episode of Sound FX where the ref pushes a Jet away from center and he turns around and says "Man get off my ass!!" thinking that his teammate pushed him, then goes and apologized to the official.

    This isn't that uncommon.

Fucking read--your "analogy" is completely inapplicable.

They only do it on KICKS. Not any other down or play. Not second down, not first down, not third down--not even FOURTH down UNLESS they are punting or kicking a FG or on extra points.

And REGARDLESS of when it happens.

Fucking READ then UNDERSTAND. Before you talk about brick walls.

And there is no such thing as being MORE objective or MORE accurate on "really" critical plays.

    That's whiny child talk.

There really needs to be a post minimum before you can start threads.

It says it in the BODY of the article that HE posted that it's a common thing based on PLAYER SAFETY.

Now this idiot is suggesting refs do it on second down and THAT shouldn't be right.

    Wtf.

He was lining up in front of the snapper to call a play, something that happens often on field goals.

The NFL has released a statement saying what the ref did was "standard officiating procedure" for the ref to move the player over. Happens all the time.

Except according to the OP it shouldn't happen to the Jets when they are going for a game winning FG.
