Actually it's year 45 of the rebuild..... Holtz, winner, michaels, Walton, coslet, Carroll, kotite, parcells, bellichek, groh, Edwards, Mangini, and Ryan all promised a rebuild and only michaels and parcells delivered but not all the way. The wheels just keep turning with no end in sight. Sigh!
Whats up with the Seattle obsession? Seattle wins a superbowl and now everybody wants to be like them because Idzik worked for them? As if other teams never won before Seattle
How often does a 7-9 team make the playoffs? Just because circumstance and a whole lot of luck dictated that success, doesn't mean it was viewed as a success during that time. Matter of fact, if you take away the luck in the matter, they would have been viewed a whole hell of a lot worse in those seasons. Right now, the luck isn't in our favor. Although our division doesn't look as strong as it once was, so you never can tell. Still time left in the season, we'll see what happens.
We clearly are not the Seahawks, we will have a different fate. Shits a giggles though.. Jets Year 1 - 8-8 Year 2 - TBD Year 3 - TBD Already ahead of the curb. See, optimism can come from any situation.
Isn't that hypocritical though? We finished at .500 year 1. Year two hasn't fully played out yet, still a lot of football around the corner and we are through the hardest part of out schedule. So...for all this hate and bashing of this franchise after year 1 of the Idzik era, considering, it's hypocritical. Just because they were fortunate enough to be playing in such a shitty division to make the playoffs, doesn't mean that they were ahead of the curb those first two years at least. I don't care who you are, playoffs or not, if you are 7-9 and make the playoffs, there is something extremely wrong about that. That almost never happens. Welcome to the exception I guess.
I'm all for rebuilding but take a look at the recent Rams game for example... they had 5 rookie guys on defense rotation they are letting em play... meanwhile we keep trucking out mostly old dudes... I understand with Harris he manages the unit out there but heck... Edds, IK, Reilly... let em play it can't hurt can it (record wise) and for the future since we're "rebuilding"
I share the same sentiments. The Jets would have to be fortunate enough to draft a no-miss player like Andrew Luck to not completely fail the instructional process. There is nobody in the organization who knows anything about development. My God, its been 2 QBs in a row in which we've heard "they only read one route" from opposing teams. We can't even teach a kid to look off defenders and check down? Austin Davis was coaching high school football a few months ago and he checked down beautifully Monday night. I thought I was watching Joe Montana. Then I remembered the Rams are a .500 team and the Jets are so bad that a .500 team looks like the '85 Bears on defense and '99 Rams on offense.
Well it is good to C there is at least one other person in this group who realizes it is now 45 years of rebuilding without any success
You are right, but the original comment was how bad they (Seattle) were the first 3 years. The 3rd year they were 11-5. That was my point. It wasn't a comparison to Jets. It was just stating that those were not a bad first three years for Carrol.
Parcells did rebuild the franchise. Of all the HC/GM combinations, Tanny and Mangini were the best we have had. They had a shared vision and we tossed Mangini aside way too soon. Ryan did a good job with the team that was largely put together by those guys. Its a real shame.... We will have a new HC next year, and maybe a new GM the year after that and we continue to have no QB so the revolving door will continue to spin.
5-13 and Mo Lewis bailed you guys out. Belichik didn't have the balls to replace Bledsoe with Brady after giving him the huge contract in the spring of 2001. 10 years and $103 million with $14 million guaranteed.
Mangini lost the locker room in 2007 and never fully got it back. He'd probably still be the head coach here if he hadn't embarked on an ill-advised vendetta against Pete Kendall in the summer of 2007. The 2008 draft and Favre's late season shoulder injury sealed the deal but Mangini was already in trouble before that happened. Never, NEVER, get into a fight with a respected veteran offensive lineman. Those guys are like a clan and once you are fighting with one of them they're all looking at you funny. That Kendall was the Jets player rep just made it worse.
Kraft, Belichik and Bledsoe were all happy with the deal. Kraft would never have given the deal to Bledsoe if Belichik wasn't on board with it.
Mangini learned from the master, Bill Belichick on how to be a hardass. And then when he even tried to pull that shit by ratting on the Patriots they all went apeshit. No big surprise BB would have done the same thing. But Mangini still didn't learn his lesson when he went to Cleveland and tried to be a dictator there, too.
Belichick had final say on football matters with the Pats and still does. There's no way the Bledsoe deal is even discussed without Kraft getting his approval. That was true in 2000 when he took the job and it remains true to this day. Pioli was a player personnel director and not a GM for a reason. The Pats and Belichick wanted no doubt about who was in control of the decisions the franchise makes.
I agree with your take on the Mangini/Kendall situation being a bad one, and a stupid move on Mangini's part. But as you noted that was the summer of 07, not 08, which was Mangini's last year. Did it really factor into his being fired?
The 4-12 in 2007 definitely factored into him being fired when the 2008 team collapsed at the end. Who was playing LG in 2007 in place of Kendall when Chad finally lost his ability to win?
