Nice conspiracy theory. The part you leave out is that the attacks resonate because Idzik sucks. If Idzik was doing a good job all the media attacks you assume would still be made would not resonate. They resonate now.
Yes, and Idzik could have had Revis back at a reasonable price this offseason (along with Aqib Talib, Alterraun Verner, DRC, or several other good FA CB options). Idzik (unwittingly?) sabotaged Rex and his D. It's a no brainer - Rex is a top flight coach when his GM is not undermining his roster!
Lol yeah ok you keep telling yourself that Junc. You would think before the trade the Jets would research this prior to the trade. Delusional Junc.
The team has lost 5 games in a row. Everybody associated with the team that takes the field should be getting attacked by the media. I don't think they are being unfair to Idzik at all. You point makes sense only in the fact that they are being too easy on Rex. He should be getting just as much fire from the media as Idzik is getting but they do love Rex because he makes their jobs easier. But Idzik shouldn't be getting any LESS criticism. He had a horrendous offseason and deserves all the criticism he is getting. Also - at least with him it's football criticism. They are being very fair to Idzik.
I think what people are missing on the OP's question is that the attempts to distinguish the relative performances of Ryan and Idzik really goes back to the situation when Woody hired Idzik but required him to keep Ryan for a year, and then apparently a second year. Meanwhile Idzik built up all that unused cap space, leaving the Jets poised to use it in the coming off season. If you fire Ryan now and keep Idzik, allowing Idzik to hire Ryan's replacement, how long do you give the new tandem time to show they will work together and get it done? Imo nobody is going to sign to replace Ryan without probably a three year contract. And what about Idzik's contract? If you let Idzik hire a new HC, would it make sense to fire him after one year? Two? And here's another thing - Unless Idzik is given an assurance if he stays that he gets to stay for at least two, really three, more years, how does that affect his roster moves? How will he use all that cap space next off season? To build for the long term, or the short term? If he's on a short leash, the answer is short term, so he goes immediate impact players, both in signings and keeping what he can of the current roster, rather than longer term. Imo firing one of Ryan or Idzik and keeping the other merely perpetuates the different time lines the HC and GM are on, which was put in place by Woody at the beginning of 13. To move away from that and keep Idzik, you need to give him really three more years to put him on a time line with a new HC. Sure you can retain the option to fire both during that three year time line, but Woody does not like eating out years on these contracts. So let's put aside the two years Idzik already has and stop the talk he gets one more year. If he stays it makes no sense to let him hire a new HC, make roster decisions with the cap space when he's on a short leash. If Ryan is fired and Idzik is retained, it only makes sense to do that to keep Idzik another three years, not just one. I think giving Idzik that much more time is not indicated by his roster moves to date. He sucks at personnel management. But I also think Woody will be afraid to can him now since he probably hears people say he will have a hard time replacing Idzik since he's only been here two years. What a shit storm.
The stadium being "basically" sold out and being "sold out" is a wide gap--a money losing gap. I've had PSLs since it opened and I still get calls about upgrading my seats or purchasing more. Two friends and one work associate can't GIVE their tickets away. There are 20 commercials a day imploring people to buy Jets tickets with that idiotic slogan in faux Staten Island accent "What It Means To Be Green". There is no longer a waiting list to get season tickets--the truest indicator of a sold out stadium. People are freely defaulting on their PSLs. People are selling their PSLs at discounts. The team is offering 3 ticket packages in PSL sections with NO PSL surcharge. Nearly everyone I know that had Uppers tickets has bailed on them. Tickets on the secondary market are selling at a discount--NOT at a premium. Don't go by "announced" crowd numbers--the stadium has not been FULL for one game this year resulting in a ton of game day concessions not being purchased. Those are not the telltale signs of a "sold out" stadium. Btw, I have never heard a "What It Means To Be Blue" commercial, have never gotten a call to purchase their tickets and friends of mine that have season tickets have no problem selling them. As to Tebow, and it's all opinion, but I believe 1000% that was a completely Woody driven marketing ploy--that move made ZERO football sense and some day when Tanny and/or Rex writes his book, that's what will finally be revealed. There is no way IMHO Tanny and Rex sat down together and said "hey, this guy can be a weapon for us". The proof is in the pudding, they never used him. That was all Woody because he needed to sell his PSLs. Just like I believe it was Woody's decision alone to go out and get Favre. _
but no one is buying a PSL b/c Tim Tebow is our QB, Tim Tebow is not bringing in more fans for a random game than we would have if we were good. The Giants have had a million commercials to sell tickets, they have the same issues as us. you just haven't paid attention. They also had lower PSLs. The move as a football move made sense if he was coming in here as a Brad Smith type. that was the hope but Tebow refused to go along w/ that plan. any
if you think we made the move for financial gain I don't know what to tell you. I remember that same lack of logic being applied to the Favre trade to sell PSLs. Find me one person that bought a PSL based on Favre or Tebow? just ONE.
why you always defend the Front Office and Owner so much. It is like you cousin of Woody or something.
I agree. Despite popular opinion to the contrary, that move wasn't made for financial gain. That move was made because: A) Tanny actually thought Tebow could play, and B) Tebow coming down the field to beat his overrated defense gave Rex an inflated view of what Tebow could actually do for the Jets. (Also, Rex has always been infatuated with bullshit wildcat plays and probably thought that Tebow would actually provide a huge spark for the Jets on those kind of plays)
I defend common sense, it makes zero sense to acquire Favre or Tebow to sell PSLs or tickets. Tannenbaum after he was fired has said the move was his move not Woody's but let's believe silly conspiracy theories that lack any form of common sense.
I dont mean in this particular case i mean in general you always on the defensive side even tho you disagreed with the Sanchez ride out of town in general , you always support the leadership of the organization wich in my opinion has been far from great . If they dont use the rollover money next season and go cheap again i will not root for this team until they change mindset.
That may be the perception b/c I don't pile on to certain issues but I am critical when I disagree w/ moves and will defend what I believe is right. Fans will always irrational start to blame certain people over anything. Cowboy fans were doing the same thing the first couple of weeks. Things change quickly in this league.
It absolutely was a move to sell PSLs. It was the wrong calculation but that move was a 100% attempt to sell PSLs that he could not sell. Believe what you want, but that's the way IMHO Woody thinks. Same thing with Favre. Tebow was completely not a football move. Proof was in how he was never used. Btw, I drive 50 miles to and from work every day (been doing so for the last 12 years) and I listen to at least 20 hours of the FAN and ESPN radio a week. Boomer and Carton, Mike and Mike, Joe and Evan, Cowherd, Lupica, Francessar, Rucco, Rothenberg, Michael Kaye, the Schmoozer, Tony Paige--all of them. I have never heard ONE SINGLE commercial for Giants tickets. Not one--ever. I'm paying attention, but there is nothing to hear. There are those stupid "What It Means to be Green" commercials on multiple times every single day. I have friends who own Giant PSLs and no one gets the calls I get and no one has issues selling them. Our stadium is not sold out. _
Exactly. It was an awful plan, but that was the plan all along. Just look at how Tebow was not used tells you all you need to know. Our stadium is FAR from being sold out and it's only going to get worse, the worse we play. _
I don't buy that for a second. It makes no sense whatsoever. again, if you guys can find me one example of someone buying a PSL b/c of Favre or Tebow I'd be shocked. I don't listen to regular radio but I have seen a million web ads for giant tickets since moving into the new Stadium and again the Giants priced their PSLs much lower than we did for the non upper deck seats.
the OC hated him and didn't want to use him, we used him just not as much as expected and Tim did NOT want to play anywhere other than QB.
