Isn't he already looking to sell at least part of the Nets? Now that LeBron is back in Cleveland he isnt sniffing a title in NJ
it's a tough call really. wasting money on washed up talent OR saving money with no talent. Since it's not my money I'll choose option 1.
Agreed. What's the point of hiring the guy if you don't let him put his plan into action? I think Idzik probably wants to move on from Rex and as much as I like Rex if thats the move Idzik wants to make he should be allowed to make it.
Idzik is building for the future, he will spend money on players that are worth it. what players that were worth it did we not sign? Revis? yeah but there is a different history w/ the organization. DRC? seriously? average at best corner the Giants overpaid. Verner? you guys would be the first to whine about how guys are overpaid if we overpaid them. His drafts don't look great right now but it is still very early and he should have maneuvered a but w/ all those picks but too late for that. Prokorov has done nothing w/ the Nets, the new building was already being built. all he has done is ensure the Nets will never compete for a championship w/ that awful GM overpaying for older, big name FAs. He is like George Steinbrenner in the 80s.
Probably time for Rex to go. He's not as bad as some people here claim, but he got a fair amount of time here, and some issues have gotten worse. He's got a poor track record when it comes to the draft (in general over those 6 years, but also specifically, things like picking Pryor when we needed a rangy free safety, picking Boyd because of his son's connection, picking that guy for Sanchez), team discipline and practice habits seem to be lacking year after year, we keep seeing him trying to use inferior corners like AA, Walls, Wilson, broken down Cromartie last year the same way he used prime Revis and Cromartie back in the day, leaving them on an island plenty of times, just to get burned. The constant ineffective blitzing, and I think he's just a bad fit for a young rebuilding team with a lousy secondary. His complex exotic schemes force the players to think so much as they are running after receivers for their lives, they have nothing left when it comes time to make a play, get an interception or force/recover a fumble. A much simpler defensive scheme might be better suited for us these days, in my opinion. Idzik has to stay. It would be retarded to let him go now, after 2 years on the job where he came in into a really shitty situation. In those 2 years he has actually done a much better job than most fans think, not only getting us out of salary cap hell into one of the best cap situations in the league, but also gradually replacing grossly overpaid veterans with young talent on budget deals. Luck has been against him so far, but the only reason fans are complaining about him, is because many of them are just impatient backseat drivers, holding silly stuff against him, like the franchise's performance over the last 40 years, as if Idzik had anything to do with that, or a rash of injuries or a brutal schedule. Once you bring a guy in, give him a fair chance. If he gets that and the results aren't good, fire him. But until then, let him do his job.
First off that's Billy King making those acquisitions. 2nd of all that Russian Owner wants to WIN and will do anything to make sure that happens. He's not the one making the decisions on that basketball team.
Billy King is awful but he has direction from the owner who thinks you just spend and win, again like George of the 80s. that's not how it works.
Question for all of the knowledgable draft guys out there. In order to trade up in the draft all we had was an extra 4th rounder. We had a 5th, 6th and 7th rounder as well. What could those picks have really gotten us? Would the 4th have gotten us an additional pick in the second? I'd imagine the 5th, 6th and 7th would just be throwaway pieces when manuevering the 2nd and 3rd rounds. None of our extra picks could be traded anyway. Would our third and one of our 4ths have gotten us back into the second round? I guess the two 4ths could have gotten us back into the third, but I dont know if its worth it in that event. I suppose we could have moved around in a bit in rounds 5/6/7, but I dont see this great opportunity for moving around in the early rounds. Anyone with the value chart, I would appreciate some imput.
I bet you Prokhorov wouldn't make the team trade for Tim Tebow and disregard what the team needs. Let's be serious here. Prokhorov wants to win. Woody does not. Prokhorov wants the real fans to attend the stadium, Woody does not.
yes, he made his GM trade for Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce and thought that was a good thing. Woody didn't force Tannenbaum to trade for Tebow by the way.
Here's a question. Let's say we win 0-4 more games, finish with a high pick, Idzik does another draft and Ryan gets fired. We have a new coach in 15, and we have another sub 5 win season because a draft needs 3 years to evaluate. Does Idzik get fired then at the end of 15? If that's the case, why wouldn't you just do it now?
That Net acquisition was a Billy King move for sure. He's notorious for throwing away draft picks. http://hoopshype.com/general_managers/billy_king.htm Oh and Woody didn't force Tannenbaum's hand? Would love to know who forced it then. It was a Woody move to make more $$$ - there's nothing you can do to convince me otherwise.
Because you don't fire people based on hypothetical situations. Let me give you another one. Let's say we win 7 or 8 games and get back in the playoff chase before the season is over. Idzik does another draft and Rex is coaching the Jets in 2015. We make the playoffs and go on a run to the Super Bowl. Do Rex and Idzik get long contract extensions if that happens? If that's the case, why wouldn't you just do it now?
Well, I was very disappointed when they kept Rex with a new GM coming in. Once I got over it, I rooted hard for them. I do not understand the Jet chain of command. I think it was traditional before Rex came. I am reading that book about Rex and company that came out last year, and Rex comes across as a nice guy, a defensive savant, but an overgrown child who makes spontaneous decisions that leave people scratching their heads all the time. He basically overshadows everything. He is not executive material. They were unfair to Idzik. But of course, Idzik could have said no. And probably should have. He is taking really nasty forms of abuse from the writers now.
Idzik is being attacked by the media because they want anybody but him in the job as Jets GM. Quiet guys who won't be drawn out are bad news for people who like headlines.
