How pathetic would this organization be to keep a coach after a 3-13 season on top of 4 straight years of missing the playoffs
Idzik needs to go and be replaced with a talent evaluator. Ryan cannot stick around with new GM so they will be starting over.
I voted to keep both for one more year. It makes no sense to me to unload Idzik at this point. Lets see what he does this offseason with the draft and FA. Personally, I'm for keeping Rex because I don't want Gruden, Harbaugh, or an inexperienced rookie HC.
you are making assumptions on what our record will be, we will not finish 3-13 barring half the team being injured. the franchise is in great shape for the future, great cap situation, some good young players. Still a TON of work to do but it's in a good spot as hard as that may be to see right now. Idzik wasn't building for 2014, he is building for the future. I am very disappointed at the job Rex and his staff have done so far but I know Rex is an excellent coach.
Agree with this 100% And Idzik is now on an at least 8-8 record next season or see ya, barring any major fall outs or glaring culprits to prevent 8-8
We can all pick the right positions that's the easy part... it was clear as day lol... these guys are supposed to be pros meaning pushing the right buttons
No, because he hasn't had a chance to run all-out yet. Maybe he'd keep Rex, maybe he wouldn't. Maybe he'd keep the current scouting department, maybe he wouldn't. If things were better right now, if the Jets turned things around this year I'd maybe go a different direction. I think you have to give your GM a full say at least once when things are not moving according to plan. The Jets are getting buried by injuries right now. The positions getting hit hardest are the positions that were weakest at the start. That's bad luck but it's going to require a thorough re-evaluation of the roster at the end of the season. The GM needs to have the ability to do that with his guys in place.
Find Superman. Have him fly around the earth really really fast in reverse orbit to turn back time to May 8 of last year and draft Teddy Bridgewater. _
Realistically, fire Rex and Idzik the next day. Then do what he should have done and hire an experienced GM to run the team. I hope J&J go out of business and he's forced sell the tea n.
Yep, I just don't know how 100% of this shitfest is meant to be Rex's fault. We have a ton of cap room, a ton of holes and we didn't do anything about any of it, that is the GMs fault, so this year Rex and Marty have bare bones (again) to work with. Yeah Rex deserves to be back.
This is tough. Everything that happened this season would make so much sense to me if we kept Rex. This would mean that Idzik and Rex are on the same page about rebuilding the Jets from the ground up. But I cant imagine the head coach of a top 5 picking time keeping his job after not making the playoffs 5 years in a row. If Rex is canned, I have a problem with the way Idzik went about it. Idzik didnt give Rex the players he needed to succeed. He then fires him because he cant get inferior players into the playoffs? Not ok at all. I have no problem if Idzik wanted to bring in his own guy, thats well within his right. But dont use Rex as a scapegoat when you failed to provide him the talent to make a run. He should have just fired him after last season, and not let the emotion and momentum of the last game sway his decision.
That plan will just put this organization further behind. Idzik doesn't deserve a chance to run all-out. He doesn't deserve it because he doesn't come with a trustworthy pedigree and his job performance thus far has been poor. Things are bad because he dismantled this team. He traded away a hall of fame CB and now should get the benefit of the doubt because the CB position is costing this team games? hell no it doesn't work that way... He's made it a habit to ignore injury histories of players he's drafted and signed now he should get the benefit of the doubt when the team loses because of injuries? hell no it doesn't work that way... He kept on a veteran HC with a track record of fielding terrible offenses now he should get the benefit of the doubt for the team losing because the offense sucks? hell no. He's made it his "plan" to save cap $$ instead of plugging holes like he should and now he's just being held accountable for that terrible decision making. Fire em both after the season. Start fresh
Agreed for the most part. Idzik did in very short order what Tanny couldn't.. he got them out of cap hell. For that he gets praise. The draft... eeeh mixed results so far.. 2013 - Milliner - Had to be taken due to the loss of Mevis. We still don't know if the kid is good or not, he's always hurt. Hopefully he becomes worthy of a #1 pick but so far the odds are against. Richardson - very possibly the steal of the draft. Geno - Nacho part II with a better arm. If the Jets didn't take him it was speculated he could drop anywhere from the 3rd round to 5th. Huge reach by Jets when there were other needs and they could have grabbed him later in draft. Winters - Not looking good Aboushi - Unknown at this time but looks like he could be a keeper. Campbell - Not on team Bohanon - on IR, avg player but he did make the team as a 7th round flyer. Richardson is the pick of the draft. Milliner and Aboushi look like run of the mill players, the rest suck. 2014 - Pryor - Looks lost at times but he's young. Still waiting to see him translate his game to the next level. Incomplete. Amaro - Starting to get more involved, looks like he could be a good player. McDougle - Incomplete Saunders - Bust Evans - Incomplete but looked more like a bust than keeper. Dozier - Incomplete George - Bust Dixon - Bust Enunwa - Incomplete doubt he develops into anything beyond practice squad Enemkpali - Incomplete Boyd - lol seriously, they drafted this clown? Reilly - Incomplete Amaro looks like the best player from this draft. They missed badly on Saunders, George and Dixon but got some value late with players that made the team (again on this team that's not saying much). I know a lot of these picks they couldn't trade but Idzik needed to make an impact and should have used some picks to move up instead of sitting on his hands and hoping a few stick. The real issue is given the lack of success with the draft and lack of doing anything when he needed to package some mid-round picks that weren't likely to make the team to move up for players that could make an impact I question whether Idzik is the guy to guide them into the future. The 2015 draft and FA period will greatly determine the course of this team for the next 5 yrs or so. They need to have the right person in charge or the team and fan base will be in shambles.
^^I think Pryor should get a little more love. He has made some mistakes as a safety, specifically missing as the last person to make the tackle, bad angles. Overall, I think he has looked pretty aggressive with a nice finishing stick. Concerned he could be an injury waiting to happen bc he throws his body into tackles so hard, but feel he has overall a great nose for the football (way better than any safety we have had in recent memory, save LAron Landry). Should have had that pick against Oakland, he is going to be good here for awhile. Everybody else on your list I agree with. The offense in general needs an overhaul. The line is shit, there was no time for Sanchez in '11 & '12. There is no time for Geno this year, I didn't notice it as bad last year. The shotgun has to stop (please marty, just stop with this non sense, we have no passing threat). It should be a heavy running offense with PA (something Geno really needs to work on badly is his PA fake, in short...it sucks, noone is biting on it). Also, I think Geno was coached out of running the football, which is a travesty, it's one of this kids greatest weapons. I don't care what anyone here thinks, but Geno Smith is going to be around in this league for years to come. I think he is a lot better than ppl think, and I actually think he is maybe a bit over coached. This year's schedule went way over our heads and we got screwed on a couple of important plays. The special teams play for the last few years has been bad. This year it is absolutely horrid. I put that all on Rex. When special teams starts costing you big plays on a consistent basis it's a MAJOR problem. There is no discipline on this team. There is little leadership. That is all on Rex. I think Rex is most likely done, but I'm not ready to throw the towel on Idzik.
This! Unfortunately that's never gonna happen. So, until Woody is either bankrupt or selling the team, I see him saving face by keeping Idzik another several years AND keeping Rex until his 2015 extension is over no matter what the record is. In retrospect, that's not such a bad outcome because it guarantees the Jets will have lots of unspent cash and high draft picks to go along with it. Sets up another 5 year rebuild at the very least. Maybe by then, Woody will finally get football people to run the football part of the franchise and let the Idziks count the money.
Cooks has been OK, Pryor was a good pick but if we are going to play this game the pick REALLY should have been Benjamin which everyone on this board cept 1 guy whiffed on and didn't want on the team.
