    Lack of snaps under center?
No experience in a pro-system that requires you go to through reads and progressions?

None of these are negatives? You haven't seen him display any of this with the Ducks. I see a project QB with a lot of upside - he's got a good arm and is mobile. He's going to need some major retooling once he enters the NFL. It's all about what skill-sets do you have NOW that translate to the NFL. I'm glad he has the intangibles.

If we draft him, he needs to sit down for a while in my opinion - maybe you give him the Rodgers treatment for a year. Hell, I never even liked Geno Smith as a pro prospect to begin with.

Lack of snaps under center is not a negative since that's soon to be if not already the norm for most prospects. The reason why Geno struggles with this is not due to lack of experience as I mention he did run a pro-style system before; it's because of bad footwork. Taking snaps from center does not require major retooling if you have proper footwork which Mariota has. And Mariota does go through reads and progressions in the offense he runs now. Of course, going through reads and progression are skills that will need to be further developed but that will be the case for all QBs making the transition to the pros. He's actually very good at it for collegiate and mobile QB; you can see the foundation is there. I point out mobile QBs because of there ability to run they tend to not go through their progressions. Let me also defend Geno in this area; he's also pretty good at this though he can stand to do it faster.

Note I'm all for sitting QBs if you can, I just don't agree that Mariota is the type that has to sit or else his development will be stunted.

Take a look at the QBs drafted in 2014.

    Bortles - experience under center
    Bridgewater - experience under center
    Carr - experience under center

Funny, how the one guy that doesn't have experience under center (w/ no experience running a pro offense) is the guy sitting on the bench. The best prospects coming out in the next 2 to 3 yrs (Connor Cook, Hackenberg from PSU, Gunner Kiel) experience under center.

Please do not make things up to better your argument.

He also doesn't go through progressions, he holds onto the ball TOO long (longest in the NFL), makes erratic throws, he has AWFUL pocket presence. Geno always second guesses his throws. There is negatives to Geno then just footwork. Those flaws I just mentioned are the same flaws he had at WVU. I thought he fixed some of them going into this year. I was fooled.

You have never seen him take snaps under center, so again you are making stuff up. You have never seen Mariota do classic 3 step, 5 step drops under center so you cannot say he has all of the proper footwork. He runs an offense where he is strictly out of the shotgun. These things you are saying are all assumptions - things you have absolutely no proof of.

He needs major retooling, because he has no experience doing these things. If you give him some time on the bench like an Aaron Rodgers, maybe this all comes to fruition. He is fundamentally flawed and if you want to see him fulfill his potential ON THE JETS, the guy needs to sit on the bench and become fundamentally sound.

The foundation ain't there, the supporting cast for him to succeed ain't there. Geno holds onto the ball for like 4 or 5 seconds. He is awful at surveying the field. A lot of these things he can do prior to the snap. He should see if the defender is playing off coverage or press. Geno is fundamentally flawed as well.

Mariota has the potential, there is no denying that - but is any other Jet fan SICK of POTENTIAL? Oh this guy has potential, let's throw away his fundamental flaws and draft him anyway. Oh no production? He has potential let's draft him anyway.

Jameis Winston reportedly autographed 340 items for the same memorabilia firm that Todd Gurley was implicated in.

Yup, that's a guy looking to stay out of trouble.

Jet fans look back on Pennington with Green and White Colored glasses.

-Pennington played 69 games for the Jets, had 82 TD passes, 55 Interceptions, and averaged 200 yards per game, not to mention could never stay healthy. His overall record with the Jets was 32-29. He also had a legit receiving core with Moss, Coles, and Chrebet, not to mention a hall of fame RB in Curtis Martin.

With the receiving core we have right now and his weak throwing arm, Pennington would be a fucking disaster. He wasn't that good. He was accurate, but that was about it.

    He's not a Jet fan.

    He's a Geno fan.

He doesn't know shit about Pennington.

He's easily better than any quarterback we've had since, except for pre-injury Favre. He was by no means elite, but I think he was a very formidable player. You're right, he couldn't stay healthy, and like it or not, durability counts.

I'm a Ducks fan but if a picked NFL ready QB'S I think I might go with someone else. The Jets aren't bad enough to pick Mariota yet and he's only 20.
The team would need him from day one.

If we have to resort to Winters' backup, yes, I'm "questioning". Geno may as well lay down right after the snap.

And again, there is a thing in sports called momentum. This team has none. The locker room is unraveling. They've returned to being a national punch line. And they're staring 1-6 in the face. Playing in these conditions is completely different from September football when everyone has a dollar and a dream.

I like the fact he is 6-4, meaning he can see over the line much better. But I agree I hope the Jets trade for a Decent rookie QB there are plenty out there

    Jacksonville wins their first.

Just the Raiders in front of us at 0-5 but they have a game in hand.

Nine teams have two wins or less. Probably a lock for Top 10 unless we really get on a roll.

So many bad teams. Oakland and Jacksonville can finish 1-2 and go defense back-to-back.

If we did get the first pick (highly unlikely) we would either trade back or take Gregory.
