How do you guys feel about the safety position? Now I'm not saying Pryor isn't a good player, but he's not a free safety. I wanted Idzik to draft HaHa last year to complement Antonio Allen. Pryor flat out showed his limitations thus far yesterday where Julius Thomas was no match for him. How would you feel about drafting ball hawk in the middle rounds? I preferably would like them to draft Kyshoen Jarrett out of Virginia Tech if he's available. Take a look at some clips from last season. I would love to see him and Antonio Allen play alongside one another.
I, for one, would like to see the Pryor pick play out. The bad pursuit angles should come less often as Pryor develops his feel for the speed of the NFL. This group is young enough with Allen, Bush, Miles still on the practice squad, Jarrett likely to be re-signed. If a move were to be made, I'd rather see the team sign a veteran to reinforce the group, but I can't say I'd be angry if a Day 3 pick was spent on a safety.
I'm not too concerned about the safety position. Like others have said, it's a young group, and Pryor will be a baller. He just needs to get caught up to speed. Remember, he missed a lot of TC and the pre-season, much like Dee last year.
Right now the first round pick is struggling. Like I said, I was never a fan of having two "box playing safeties". You could sub Kyshoen Jarrett in for Pryor and Allen due to his versatility. With his range you could play Allen down in the box and have Jarrett patrol in between the hash marks on 3rd and long situations for example... Basically a 4-3 under front. My biggest concern with Pryor is that this is going to turn out like our safety duos that consisted of two SS's.
If the Jets are going to draft a FS - that is fine (not in the first round), but Pryor will move to SS and Allen - will be the 3rd safety / emergency CB. 1st round pick isn't getting benched.
Oh yeah me too I'd flip shit. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a player like Amari Cooper or an elite offensive lineman prospect.
I hate having two strong safeties as well. We need a free but Im not spending a 1st on defense unless it's a corner. I'd try to adress this in FA and then the middle rounds.
