We've had a chance to win every game this year except SD. If we were blown out each game it would be reasonable to predict a top 3 pick but we haven't been and it's just ignorance.

That's just what we need. The first overall pick. Pay him a ton of money, tie up our salary cap for years, and have him be another bust. The Jets are terrible at scouting and drafting. That's one of our biggest problems. So many first round busts.

No you are not the only one to think that Kaep can't read defenses. However, passing on him at #1 would all depend on the who's available and your draft needs. I'll tell you this though, Kaep "as is" is definitely a first round draft pick and I would take 20 years old Mariota over Kaep at any age and/or draft.

My assessment of Mariota is all on this board as well. What qualifies as a disaster? You are looking at it right now for the Jets. A Project QB that is way over his head.

It's OK to be over your head provided you are getting better. IMO the biggest issue with Geno is the latter. He's just not improving.

Reasonably speaking we will be anywhere from 4-12 to 7-9. Currently 1-5 with a very soft schedule at the end of the year with a head coach coaching for his job/resume.

That's because Geno sucks. I'm not all that interested in Mariota. I think it's the wrong yr to get a QB. Hopefully an elite offensive line prospect and Cooper declare for the draft so we can look at those 2 to build this team back up.

The bold is the key. Don't let Geno sour you on the spread QB; they are all not created equal.

I just don't believe in these spread QBs - they are fundamentally flawed in college. I prefer a pure pocket passer that can move around in the pocket and take snaps under center with efficiency. That's my problem.

You want to know the path. Sit Wilkerson, Richardson and Harrison.

You don't like spread offense Quarterbacks, yet you liked/like Derek Carr as a QB?

Carr ran a pro offense for 1 yr in college w/ Pat Hill. He has that experience under his belt.

So did Geno his sophomore year. Like I said the fact you feel he "sucks" is the issue not the spread.

Has Mariota ever played in a pro-offense? My reasoning for why Geno sucks extends farther then the spread offense. It does play a role. Carr had several good teachers to help him adjust to the pro game - which is why I really wanted Carr in 2014.

You don't know if he will suck or not. Nor do I. He's a project pro QB - boom or bust to be honest.

This is a QB driven league. If you don't have a QB, you don't have a team.

I'd be OK with them using every single draft pick on a QB until we get one that can hit the side of a barn.

We haven't had a real QB since Namath. (Ok.. Vinny, Pennington, and O'Brien were good)

Well I'm projecting based on what I see. With Geno I saw and continue to see bad feet, inconsistent mechanics and poor anticipation. I don't see that with Mariota. The only negative issue I have with Mariota from a physical standpoint is ball security with fumbles; that's a negative they both share. When it comes to the intangibles (character, football IQ, leadership, work ethic…etc.) Mariota is off the charts, that's why I see very little bust in him as a prospect.
