So many to choose from - is it that only a couple of teams have scored fewer points than the Jets? Is it that only a couple of teams have allowed their opponents to score more points? Is it the awful turnover ratio and the fact we have only a single interception all season so far? Is it the state of our DBs which is about to get even worse (if that's possible) due to DM's injury? the coaching? the management that leaves us rich in cap space but bereft of talent? If you had to pick one, and I know its hard, what is the worst thing about the Jets this year?
Geno's regression. I don't care who the coach is, the GM or anything else, if you don't have a quality QB you have no shot...
The close losses. Shows there is some potential there but we just don't have the ability to win. One possession losses to CHI, GB, DET, and DEN. And no scapegoat. It's just the team overall not being good enough to stick with the good teams
All respect to Mangold and D'Brick, but they are clearly getting old and are not what they used to be. I have no idea how we will replace them anytime soon with all the holes this team has.
The fact that they have not been bad as they have looked. They are a few close bad calls from being even. The fact that they have flashed. The fact half our secondary has died. But most of all, the Buffalo "fucking" Bills are doing better than us.
Brick has lost a step. I think Mangold just looks bad because he has to play next to Winters and Colon and has to continue covering their asses.
Geno getting happy feet. At least last year with the exception of a few games he played very tough physical football where he was willing and accepting of taking hits and most importantly he stepped into histhrows. The last 3 games he looks very Sanchez like where he is playing scared and looks lost in the pocket. There are a lot of excuses that can be made but playing scared with no pocket presence provides little hope. What is more depressing is its another year lost with the season being over after 5 games similar to what we went through in the 70's. With a HC change and QB change on the horizon it is looking like a total rebuild where we will not be competitive for many years. These last 18 seasons since 1997 have arguably be the best years we have had as Jets fans where we have always been competitive and there has always been hope. This board has always been bipolar where people greatly overreact to wins and losses but I think this year we truly are very bad. I don't see much hope for next year.
Idzik for fielding a very poor team. No other GM in the league would enter a season with corps of cbs and wrs like ours, especially with the type of cap money we are sitting on. Impossible to win when the talent is not there, no other way around it.
the worst thing is it didn't happen last year. we lose a year answering questions that weren't answered when the team scrapped to 8-8. this team has been due for a rock bottom year.
One of the worst aspects is the lack of progression of the entire offense. It starts with the poor coaching and also the lack of execution of the players, mainly the QB. Add to that the lack of playmakers on offense and no outside WR's. Overall, this team's play doesn't look improved which is really the most troubling aspect of this season. Nothing about the current edition of this team or coaching staff shows building toward championship caliber. They look directionless.
I agree that its the discovery that the Offensive line needs MAJOR work.....we certainly did not need more holes this year but we have found them...its a fuckin disaster.....by the way, lemme throw this statement out at the risk of being basjed.....Sheldon has regressed, not improved. Love the guy so Im just gonna keep my blinders on and assume hes gonna be a great one but he doesn't look like he did last year
I can't agree w/ this at all. Sheldon has been getting off more blocks, is quicker off the snap & is a much better pass rusher than last year. The front 4 of the DL is really the lone bright spot both in development & production. #1 Against the run & in sacks..how can you get any better than that? Biggest disappointment is the passing game. That's what is holding back this whole team. The OL has performed horribly but part of that is b/c they were built to run the ball & can't b/c teams stack the box & key on all the run schemes. It boggles my mind how a modern day offense can be this inept throwing the ball..it's like straight out of 1995. Throwing the ball is supposed to be EASY w/ all the rule changes. The Jets struggle w/ every aspect of it. Throwing, catching & protecting,
We don't have an offense that can consistently get first downs and score points. That is, and always has been, the single worst aspect of the Jets under Rex Ryan. And this year, it's finally going to cost him his job.
All above posts are true and valid points. Here's another take. I heard someone call the ESPN 5th Quarter Show after the game saying how great it was that people showed up. Yeah, MetLife Stadium was a sea of orange jerseys. As a season ticket holder, it's sad to be ridiculed by opposing fans who comprise the majority of attendees in your own damn building!!! That is really sad. Is this what it means to be green?
