First off the strength of our team is the INTERIOR linemen, not the OLB's, its very easy to keep interior linemen off the QB long enough to get a pass off to the receivers unless one of them are Sapp level, sorry to let people down but Wilkerson is just not that great yet. We have Harris playing most of the defensive snaps because he actually calls plays on the D. We have no edge rush to compliment our interior guys still so yeah we can stop the run but really we are not consistent enough to just send 4 guys all day and get pressure.
I think with Harrison at NT on first and second down from a 3-4 set we should be able to just send 4 and dial up way more trap coverages and switches and less blitzing! It's becoming clear that we need to upgrade ILBs with some of that $60 million or w/e next year. The third down blitzing is a whole nother story. Cutler Stafford Rivers and Rodgers absolutely toasted us every time we brought the house. Idzik has really given Rex jackshit to work with in the secondary this yr.
Jets should hit Peyton with a 4-3 and let Richardson, Wilkerson, Harrison and Babin run a train on him. Send Coples too. 3rd down just play tight coverage. Jets gotta be physical with Denver
My two biggest hopes for this game: Milliner holds Thomas to 50 yards or less, and Decker puts up 120 yards and at least 1 TD on his old team.
The D at least for awhile came to play last week. But no D can be on the field all day long in 100 degree temperature with zero help from their offense. So the key to the game is Marty Mohrnigweig and the O. If they're a non factor again there is no way you can win . It's pretty obvious that Geno is not effective throwing on the run. He's a drop back Qb and if there's a rush he's better off running with the ball. He can be accurate but not when you take him away from his element.
for all you Monday morning coaches.... tell me your game plan in advance.. Dont wait till Monday.. If Walls can't go, do you start Adams? Do you play 3 safety sets, including Allen covering the TE, like we tried against SD? Do you try to pressure Manning up the middle, or simply rush4 at most? What if the 4 man rush isn't getting to him? Do you keep the Safeties deep, and challenge Peyton to attack the short middle? On offense, do you try to control the clock by sticking to the run? What if you fall behind early? What matchups do you try to exploit on Denver's D? What receivers do you start considering Decker and Nelson's injuries? At any point, do you throw in Vick after looking as disinterested as he did last week?
I agree it will come down to the O sustaining long drives, and converting in the red zone. Geno will have to convert third downs with his legs if need be. I really hope Decker is healthy. Our secondary will not be able to stop Peyton, as literally every single matchup is a mismatch.
Remember that great Chad Pennington vs. Peyton Manning thriller in 2006? I believe the final score was 31-28 Colts? That is going to be the way the Jets are going to keep it close today. Tough to stop Peyton, easier to score on Broncos. Look for a 41-24 Broncos win.
Well the day I've been dreading is here..... Being a Jets fan in Colorado has made my life hell this week..... I'll be watching the game with my family...... Lord help me get through this!
The only two things that give me any hope for a game that's at least somewhat competitive are that (1) teams don't usually get blown out two weeks in a row and (2) the Jets seem to play good football when nobody expects them to and they're written off... That's really about it. If they could pull off some miracle today and win, it would be amazing to see perceptions of this team completely change. But, that's not where my money is...
Let Geno and the offense have the full playbook. If mistakes happen, they happen. At least the ball is moving up and down the field. Don't consistently blitz Peyton, I don't trust our defenders to tackle Thomas, Welker, Thomas, or Sanders in space. The quick screens will happen and Manning will roll the pocket because he will see the blitzes. Have to trust the DL and LB can get pressure without sending the house.
Brian Costello @BrianCoz The other inactives besides Nelson: T.J. Barnes, Josh Bush, Dakota Dozier, IK Enemkpali, Ben Ijalana and Chris Owusu. #nyj 2m Yes. Decker is active. If he can through the game healthy, it would be a huge boost
