I have no idea if Moncrief will pan out but it's just another example of this department's terrible history at drafting skill position players.

Sanders pick had no upside. Moncrief, at least athletically and judging by his 2012 season, has WR1 upside with no injury history.

The Jets drafted McDougle to play the slot for them moving forward. That's where he was projected to play in the NFL. He's got the quickness, speed and balance to play in the slot and he mirrors really well early in a route. He was Kyle Wilson's replacement. They undoubtedly thought they'd get another outside CB next year either via the draft or free agency and be playing Milliner, the other guy and McDougle as their slot guy.

That's who they chose over Moncrief and the other WR's. They didn't pick Jalen Saunders over Moncrief. Saunders is what was left when the Jets pick rolled around. They chose him over Bruce Ellington, another smaller guy who isn't exactly burning things up early in his career either. Shaq Evans is IR'd. Martavis Bryant hasn't dressed for a game yet with the Steelers. Kevin Norwood hasn't dressed for the Seahawks yet. That's it, that's all the 4th round WR's at 104 and down and they have 1 catch between them.

But feel free to vent on how Saunders was the worst pick of all time and we're all going to hell because of it. You'll beat Manish Mehta to the punch by a week or two if you do that.

Jalen Saunders actually had talent in Oklahoma and despite the size, he could get open and had some slick feet. Very good punt returner too. If used right, he could have been a nice player on small yardage plays that could go for more because of his elusiveness.

I'm not saying Jets drafted Sanders over Moncrief. I'm well aware DEX was the third round selection.

My argument is the you try to draft WR1s not slot WRs who are 160-1bs. You can find Greg Salas on the street to play the slot.

Moncrief was the best WR left by a long shot in the third and the Jets should have realized this. All of the shitty 4th round WRs just proves this point. Like I said, athletically, he's in the top 3%.

They drafted TWO WRs in the 4th and another in the sixth so WR was obviously a point of emphasis.

Jets have problems scoring TDs. Sanders was prolific in college scoring TDs for but historically at his size that doesn't translate well in the NFL.

Moncrief was a project, still is a project. I liked him myself but if they consider McDougle a better prospect than Mocrief, I don't think it's a problem that they took him over Moncrief. Moncrief has 8 total receptions and none in the past 2 games, so he's not exactly lighting it up. I think the problem is that you're assuming an inconsistent route runner and raw WR would have somehow had a major effect on our team this year.

    For those keeping track

Cardinals signed WR/KR Soloman Patton to the practice squad.

Patton opened the season as the Bucs' primary return man, but was waived earlier this week. He'll be stashed on Arizona's practice squad over former Jets fourth-rounder Jalen Saunders, who was released on Saturday.

I'm fine with taking McDougle over Montcrief and I have learned a lot from your posts. That said, I have a problem with this premise that many posters put out there that because a rookie isn't lighting it up on other teams that they wouldn't have an effect on our team this year. That logic doesn't make sense given our weak our roster is and how loaded the colts are... A lot tougher for a rookie to make an impact behind Cobb/Nelson and Wayne/Hilton than it is on a team where David Nelson our starting receiver has 6 receptions and 63 yards and 2 fumbles through half as season.
Rookies WRs like Martavis Bryant, Montcrief, Cooks and even later picks like Jeff Janis or Campanaro could easily be putting up monster stats on our team.

To a point I agree, technically it is possible they could be successful, but what is more likely? Cooks, Bryant, and Davante Adams in GB all get a solid number of snaps, with good QB's, but they aren't really putting up a whole lot. Would their numbers be better? Maybe, but probably only marginally.
