If Klein has improved after a full off-season learning AV's system, and he was slightly better last night, then they're not losing much. But if he's the same player he's been his entire career, which is a mediocre 3rd pair defenseman, then it's definitely a problem.
On a mediocre Nashville team that played Tortorella-esque defensive hockey and had a Suter-Weber top pairing doing all the heavy lifting, sure. We're competing for a Stanley Cup and trying to play a quick transition game. He showed improvements in this area in the playoffs last year and looked a little better standing up at the blue line last night, so perhaps he can become this type of player. He's only played for Trotz before last year's trade so we don't know for sure what he's capable of.
friggin Giarardi is a good guy too. Did you see him after it happened just put his arms in the air...then turned to look down at him...then just got ready for the avalanche of pushing and shoving. He is a good guy. You could tell he was like "what the hell? Why did he shift to the right?" Never saw a guy take someones knee out and then just regret it within a second.
Looks like Hunwick is going to fill in on the third line. I don't like this idea. Moore and Hunwick have very similar strengths, and neither is that good. I think the third pairing could have a lot of trouble in the coming weeks.
Lets no go that far yet. Dorsett and Carcillo both could contribute something offensively in that role. I don't think Glass will contribute anything offensively, but thats not what he's here for. I didn't like the signing, but if he can do his job well and be good on the PK, then it won't be a bad signing. The contract is bad, regardless of how he plays though.
Didn't he play on the second pair in Nashville? In my eyes at least, he's a borderline #2RHD or a very good #3RHD. He can fill in adequately until Boyle comes back. It does create a problem with the third pair though. I don't like the idea of Hunwick and Moore.
Carbomb and Dorsett are not as good a hockey players as Glass, look at AV's confidence In having Glass on the ice the last minute, the other 2 hardly saw the icein the 3rd period
Oh no doubt MR...he is just not a dirty player and watching they way he reacted to that was exactly how a hard hitting clean player should act.
I expect a win against Colombus tomorrow. Dubinsky and Horton are two of their top players and they are both out. Should be a win
I might be looking ahead but at the trade deadline, would it make sense to make a move for Eric Staal if he is available? I would offer Miller and a few picks. Maybe they pay half his salary. I think this is the year to go all in. Be nice to bring in another top 6 LW too but i think Hagelin would have to go and i'm not trading Hagelin. Burrows or Higgins would be nice additions. Marleau would be nice too. Kreider-Staal-St.Louis Duclair/Hagelin-Stepan-Nash Stempniak-Brassard-Zuccarello Glass-Moore-Fast Kreider-Staal-St.Louis Burrows/Higgins/Marleau-Stepan-Nash Hagelin-Brassard-Zuccarello Glass-Moore-Stempniak Maybe try to bring in another defenseman too. Girardi-McDonagh Michalek/Yandle/Giordano/Edler/Bieksa-Staal Boyle-Moore Just a few thoughts. I have no clue how we get some of those guys on this team but we need to upgrade the forward lineup and maybe the defense too if we are trying to get a cup. Sacrifice some youth if you have to
AV's always liked Glass, so I wouldn't trust him to be impartial when deciding between the three. Glass was terrible in Pittsburgh. Hopefully he's better in NY.
