I see that guy DeAndre Hopkins is doing just fine with garbage Ryan Fitzpatrick. The guy you quoted has no clue what he's talking about.

How is Cooper elite? The kid has never stepped onto an NFL field. He might be elite but saying he is elite now is just crazy

Remember, we can't develop QBs whatsoever, so everyone should take that into account. The QB we select has to be born NFL ready.

It's a very shallow pool, practically a puddle.

I'm just going to address the title of this thread:

Q: Can we suck enough to get the golden boy?
    A: Sadly, I don't think so.

Whether or not we should get him, I don't see us being in a position to be able to. Right now, there are 2 0-win teams (Jags and Raiders), both of whom are looking almost historically bad, and 4 other 1-win teams (Bucs, Titans, Skins, Rams). The Bucs, Titans, and Rams are all definitely going to be looking at the QB position. I somehow doubt the Jets end up with fewer than 4 wins, I have trouble seeing Jacksonville or Oakland winning more than 3, and we'll lose tiebreakers to either of those on strength of schedule, and I doubt Izdik will be willing to pay the trade-up price for Mariota - where the Titans or Rams might be.

Watch him play, his route running, his seperation, this kid is the real deal and I'm not going to pass over him for another QB.

Imagine if we signed Dez, and then drafted Cooper? Our WR issues would basically be solved with these two moves.

    Dez-Cooper-Decker-Kerley-Amaro

    Damn..

Sign a couple of above average guards in free agency, then sign or draft a good scat back or something, and I think Geno Smith would honestly do great. If Geno couldn't do it with this cast, then I think he'd truly be a bust.

I really don't think Izdik is going to pay Dez the ~ 12m/year he'll get on the open market if the Cowboys don't keep him. Which is a shame - I actually don't like paying the receivers that kind of money, but at the very least with drafting Cooper we'd have the kind of receiving corps where "QB doesn't have enough weapons" would be a laughable excuse - Decker, Dez, and Cooper would be a t10 receiving corps talent-wise, easily.

Ah, if we draft Cooper - I don't think we will need to spend a bunch on Dez Bryant. Maybe you sure up the depth with some cheaper acquisitions.

I would start leaning towards the rioting of firing Idzik if he didn't want to pay an elite receiver elite money. He's going to have 78 mil in cap space after this season is over for crying out loud. The Jets haven't had a true clear cut #1 elite receiver in god knows how long.

Also, by NFL rules, he'll have to spend 19 mil of the cap space.

I disagree. At the very least, you likely don't pay Kerley the 5 mil or so he may want if we got Dez, and drafted Cooper.

I don't think Kerley would be all that expensive - he will return next yr. You pair Cooper w/ Decker and you already have 2 guys on the outside that can win 1 on 1 - then you got Kerley in the slot, Amaro at TE. Maybe you get some depth behind those receivers but that's about it.

Take that cash, shore up the offensive line - make the entire team better instead of just one aspect of the team.

101, we're just going to have to agree to disagree. But I will say If the Jets have the first pick (which I doubt), I'Il be shocked if Idzik passes on him.

Wilkerson's contact extension is going to eat up a bunch of money, and there are several other people we'll want to re-sign. But if we draft Cooper, we'll be doing so in the hopes that -he- becomes our #1. This means if we're looking at FA WR's we're more likely to be aiming at Torrey Smith, Jeremy Maclin, or Michael Crabtree than Thomas or Bryant.

TBH the real reason I'd want Bryant+Cooper is for QB evaluation purposes. If you're not gonna succeed with Bryant, Cooper, and Decker as targets as a 3rd-year QB... You're done.

If Bryant hits the market, there would be no excuse not to go after him. He won't prevent us from resigning Wilkerson, and some other guys.

Getting Dez, and drafting Cooper would basically solve our WR issues, which have plagued us for a while.

Looking around the league right now, I actually think Marcus will be available if we want him. Here's how I see the draft order going.

1 - Raiders - They like Carr and he has played about as well as expected with the garbage around him.
2 - Jags - They are set with Bortles.
3 - Redskins - They have 2 QB's right now that both could still work. QB is far from their biggest need.
    4 - Jets
5 - Titans - They need a QB but playing the Jags twice will get them atleast one more win. They also play Washington and the Jets which they may both beat.
6 - Rams - Davis looks really good. Their issues right now are in the secondary.
7 - Dolphins - They may want a QB, but have massive holes on the offensive line.
8 - Bucs - Glennon is the man whether Lovie wants to admit it or not.

The only other teams that need QB's are the Bills, Cardinals, and Texans all of which will be picking past the top 10.

If we want Marcus he's ours. The Titans are the only team I could see trying to jump us for him but their teams needs a total rebuild and may not want to waste draft picks. With 75 million to spend, if the Jets can address most of their needs in free agency then Marcus may be a Jet next season.
