Agreed!!! I do like Mannion but with our O-Line on the decline this would be a concern. The more mobile QB might be the better fit for the Jets.

It's not about mobility. We need a QB with real QB skills. It's about shiftiness and footwork. Nick Foles is not fast but he has decent agility paired with great footwork and field vision. This allows him to move very well in the pocket. Russell Wilson is very fast but he also had all of the above skills as well. This is why he's such a lethal runner. QB skills first. Mobility/speed is a bonus.

Valid point! So maybe Kirk Cousins might be a nice young talented pickup for the Jets cause we all know he's got a date with the Redskins bench when RG3 comes back.

I'm not really into Kirk Cousins, he's just another grass is greener guy, someone who's name we know and think will be better than what we have. If Geno bombs I want to look to the draft.

Do you think Nick Foles lacked fundamentals of an NFL QB?

As a placeholder? Maybe. There's a reason he'll be headed back to the bench, because he's not very good. He's good as a backup QB. not a true starter. He's like a Ryan Fitzpatrick type.

I think the $ the Redskins invested on RG3 is more of the reason why he's headed back to the bench. He played better then I thought he would against the Seahawks this past week. He's only made like 7 starts so someone who I think will develop as he gets more NFL experience but I'm not against developing through the draft either.

I would think Cousins is better than a number of starters in this league, no? Certainly better than ours.

Pseudo homoerotic thread title aside, there is a long time between now and the draft. I'm not opposed to taking a 1st round QB. It's too early, in my opinion, to say whom that should be.

Nah. Even so he's got experience under center in college if that's what you are asking.

Yeah but the majority something like 90%+ was shotgun. Those occasional snaps in live action is what's leading you state Mariota lacks that fundamental skill? Geno took some under the snaps too and played in a "pro-style" offense I believe his sophomore season, yet his footwork overall including under center is putrid.

He plays well under low pressure. When he can make quick throws to his first read he's very good. That's why he carved up the jags and had a good first half vs the eagles who were playing the run. His completion percentage plummeted into the 40's in the 4th quarter of that game once they figured him out. When the pressure is on he throws off his back foot a lot. Seattle took away the short pass and shut him down. He had a bomb to DJax but that was about it.

well yeah but that's not saying much. I think we should set our standards a little higher for the QB that we build around. Remember when everyone on here wanted McCown? As an interim QB like what fitz is to the texans right now is how I see him. I wouldn't expect him to be a long term solution unless he improves.

I see you haven't read my posts because I talked about more then just that aspect.

Good job. Even so the kid did spent a year at Michigan State and you know what offense they run. Far more experience then Mariotta.

Totally agree about setting higher standards but if Cousins is not a "true starter" then I'd be curious to know how many of those are there in the league.

I read it I was questioning that one specific fundamental.

I can agree with that. I think Cousins has a lot to learn to become a quality NFL QB but with his own team and coaching focused on his development I think he has a lot of upside.

    P. Manning
    Rodgers
    Wilson
    Rivers
    Brees
    Luck
    Foles
    Dalton
    Roethlisberger
    Brady
    Romo
    Smith
    Flacco
    Newton
    Cutler
    Stafford
    Glennon
    E. Manning (for now...)

Kaepernick is borderline (poor passer but elite arm strength and elite running ability).

Bridgewater I believe will be legit

So about 2/3 of the league have legitimate starters. The remaining third have placeholder vets/glorified backups holding down the fort or are floundering around with developmental rookies and underachieving sophomores/juniors.

Regardless of how good or bad Geno is under center and his footwork and such, he should still be given the opportunity to give it a go. The season is about to be lost and if you throw under center constantly maybe the running game can actually get going and sustain some drives.

I realize this is a Mariota thread but I just can't understand what we have to lose. Let him go three picks under center before it's written off because it's absolutely destroyed the running games at points in the games.

Jets had an opportunity and threw it away after facing the Steelers in the AFCCG.
