If we select at 4, Cooper could still be there. If Cooper is not there, the Jets take Gurley it's not even debatable. Sammie Coates is not even a thought in the top 5-8.
To me, I know we need a QB - but I am not rushing into selecting one with fundamental issues. I don't believe you take one just to take one unless it's in the later rounds. Until the time is right, build the team.
Let me say this, if the Jets were to draft Jameis Winston, I would stop being a Jets fan and sell all my shit. I stuck with the team through Smith and Vick, but three strikes in a row would be too much.
QB is the single most important position in all of team sports. You cannot win consistently without one. You can win ONCE by chance with a massive defense or by luck but not consistently. If we have any shot at Mariota we need to make it happen. And Idzik can go fuck himself for passing up on Bridgewater last year. Fuck himself with a napalm soaked cactus right up his ass. _
This is the wrong year to get a QB bud. Telling you. 2016 could be: Christian Hackenberg Connor Cook Gunner Kiel Those 3 all play in pro offenses and have A LOT of upside. That's just 3 as an example.
If the league allows us to dump, we should absolutely do it. They allowed the Colts to blatently dump games and did say a f'n thing about it. Why? The Colts had lost Manning and the League wanted to help them. If the Jets do the same thing and the League bitches about it, we should remind them of how convenient it was for Indy to magically get the worst record without having the worst squad. Some how, I just don't think the Jets have the balls to play dirty like the Colts although if we did take the Colts' road to a franchise QB, I wouldn't be mad about it...
Disagree. Mariota will be the real deal. Btw I am not high on Hackenberg at all. Looks like a stiffer less talented version of a poor man's Andrew Luck. _
Btw I am not waiting until 2016 to address the QB situation especially if we have any shot at Mariota. That means we're looking at 2019 before we're competitive consistently. _
We can agree to disagree. I think Mariota has too many fundamental flaws right now. Both are suffering from bad offensive lines, Penn State has no running game what-so-ever (Looks to be one of the worst EVER in it's history) ... Hackenberg has to carry that team each week. Hackenberg needs another yr in school no doubt, but the kid has some great talent.
I don't mind waiting as long as we get some good weapons on offense and fix the offensive line this coming draft. Sign a Vet to a 2 yr deal let him play in 2015. Luck, Wilson and RG3 all made the playoffs their rookie yr no? Didn't we make the AFCCG with Mark Sanchez? Wilson and Sanchez both had strong teams built around them. We could have the same scenario come 2016. We ain't winning shit in 2015 the way things are going.
Just watching the both of them, it appears to me that Mariota is a far superior talent to Hackenberg. I don't care about carrying a team or lines or talent around them. Just the two players in a vacuum. Mariota by a mile. _
Even so, Hackenberg was an example. He's not the only QB to come out of that draft. I'm more-so on the Connor Cook bandwagon myself. He won't come out this yr I doubt it. Give me Cooper / Gurley this yr and Cook the next. If we get Mariota, no doubt I will support the guy. Mariota has the physical gifts, but Cook that kid has a rocket arm and plays in a pro-style offense that makes him make adjustments and go through progressions. I like Mariota's long-term potential, just worried about the lack of fundamentals he has.
The GM will have that money to spend and the picks to pick, with the HC being one of the voices that the GM listens to and evaluates.
I haven't seen a lot of Cook but I'm watching every game of his from here on out. Same thing with Petty. _
