He rebuilt four franchises, though. That's the thing with Parcells. He was able to imprint his winning attitude and system on four different, losing teams and make an immediate impact on all of them. In the case of the Pats and Jets, they were arguably the two worst teams in the NFL at the time of his arrival. He also lead two different franchises to the Superbowl (which is surprisingly rare in NFL history - I believe only Mike Holmgren and Dick Vermeil have accomplished this feat). I'll never fully forgive him for leaving the team after 1999, but he restored order and respectability to the Jets for years and years to come.
he got to the superbowl with the pats and AFC championship game with the jets. he didnt do alot with the cowboys, but if you look at where they were when he took over and where they were after he really turned that team around as well
Elite WRs are a dime a dozen. and its easy to get pass catchers, ESPECIALLY with todays rules. you are never going anywhere without a good QB. that needs to be priority #1. there are great WR options in the draft and FA every single year
BP is an all time great coach, he came to a situation here where there was a slot of talent but they need a culture change and he turned us around quick. poor personnel decisions cost the franchise in the long run though. all time great coach, mediocre GM type.
We added decker, who has looked excellent. unfortunetly he hurt his hammy... but he certainly looks like a keeper.
Umm wait a second, didnt we draft Geno in 2013, he still has no talent around him, none, not even Decker (who was not on board with but whatever).
As small as it may seem in the big picture, I'll always appreciate the fact that one of his first orders of the day was to mention Jet tradition" and then restoring the Jet AFL uniform scheme.
If that's true, why are we having such a hard time doing it? Are we that stupid and blind or have we just lowered the bar to the point that who we think is good is only marginal in the big picture..
we havent TRIED to do it. and when we did invest in one (decker) we found what appears to be a very good one (decker has been Really productive when on the field). if you look at teams that have drafted WR in the top 2 rounds, or signed them in the offseason, they have panned out more often then not. certainly 100% more then QBs have
I personally think Decker is still a #2 Wr, not a #1. He's not the most durable although hammy's do take time. IF we have a overall plan, then it should be upgrade the offense to at least be on par with the defense but that did not happen. I think Idzik is playing the machiovellian role here and wants Rex out so he can bring in his guy. Now who set up that fckd up dynamic? Charlie Brown did aka: Woody Johnson by making keeping Rex a non-negotiable part of taking the GM job. Otherwise, we would have probably gotten someone that actually has experience evaluating talent instead of counting the money. What did the Jets wind up with? a GM that's in over his head supporting a HC that has no talent to work with signed off on by a Owner that doesn't have a fckn clue how things work.
Quigley might be the best jet so far this year. Lord knows i have been praying for our franchise Punter! Thank you Idzy!
You don't surround a young QB with training camp receivers which is what the Jets have done. We don't have any reliable receivers outside of Decker (injured) and Kerley. Not going to cut it.
I really don't give him much credit in the cap space either. He comes in and cuts Andre Smith I think his name was that saved the Jets 12mil. Then he cuts Sanchez,Holmes which if I'm not mistaken those cuts saved over 20mil. All three of those was no brainers.
His success waned more with each team he latched onto. Yeah, he rebuilt the Pats and got crushed in the SB. Then he rebuilt the Jets and got crushed in the AFCC. Then he rebuilt the Cowboys and couldn't win a playoff game. Then he went front office with the Dolphins and we know that story. The Giants are the only team he deserves consideration for when it comes to the HOF. The rest of it ended in crushing disappointment. BTW, his rebuild of the Jets set the team back half a decade because he was allowed to shop for the groceries. Fuck that asshole.
Totally agree. He was also a douchebag who threw others under the bus for his mistakes. He left us high and dry once he realized he was building the team on an unsustainable 1980s model. He had the audacity to leave and then say he was "disappointed" in Chad Henne. Well how about we are disappointed in you for drafting the guy? I always hated seeing him on TV and everybody sucking him off and of course they would never call him out on how he royally fucked us over but somehow they credited him for the "unforgettable" 2008 turnaround season which was more Pennington and smoke and mirrors than anything. We are just now starting to recover from his bailing on us.
That isn't being fair. the Pats were the biggest mess in football both on and off the field and he turned them into contenders. they lost that SB to a great GB team with DREW BLEDSOE as his QB. the man made SBs w/ Bledsoe and Hostetler. w/ us we are as bad as NE was on the field when he took over and he completely changed things immediately. he didn't finish the job but he made is respectable again and we have been pretty much ever since until this past Sunday.
Miami has 1 postseason app since 2002, it was 2008 after BP took over the franchise late in 2007. He's not a great exec, his success was as a great coach but he retooled to get you your lone playoff app since '02 and you should have some appreciation for that. 1 playoff app since '02 is bad, zero would be worse.
