About West Side Stadium: it was going to be a 75,000 seat stadium with a retractable roof. It was supported by New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Gov. George Pataki and Rep. Charlie Rangel and was to serve as the centerpiece in a bid to secure the 2012 Olympics in addition to the Jets. It was knocked down by Dolan (MSG) and his $-butt-boy Sheldon Silver, speaker of the most corrupt legislative body in the United States: the esteemed New York State Assembly (via Silver's Public Authorities Control Board vote). Below: 1. proposed location (west side train yards - where they park some of LIRR's fleet) 2. artist rendition of proposed stadium 3. current (and approved) redevelopment plans for the site 1. location -west side rail yards (34th street - n.b. the Garden in the background) 2. the stadium 3. Current plans: the "Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project" on-topic: it only seems like yesterday watching Shonn Green "going to sleep" in the endzone..
I wholeheartedly disagree with this. Woody had other options besides the Westside Railyards to put a new ballpark. He had the Old Yonkers Raceway site that I believe already had rail access. He had Rockaway Beach, he could have moved the team back to Long Island. He had his spoiled rotten heart set on the WSS. If not that, then nothing. I'll just take my money and go play with the Giants in Jersey. FU NYC. Well, now that he's having all kinds of problems getting the suckers to pony up for an overpriced, underperforming product on the field, he's getting exactly what he deserves. That he hired yet another Cap guy to do Personnel Evals shouldn't surprise anybody since his #1 concern is the acquisition of wealth. His infatuation with Rex obviously comes from the hero worship of a nerd and a jock. Rex is everything Woody isn't and that's another reason why even after this season, I doubt Rex gets walked.
all of those other sites would have been awful. he did the best he could, he tried for a NYC Stadium and it didn't work. the franchise has been much more successful w/ him than it was w/ Hess. The last cap guy built teams that nearly made SBs but we all wanted to throw him out b/c he wasn't good enough. Jet fans are getting what we deserve(I don't, but most Jet fans do).
It was a pretty fierce battle, IIRC. Silver is possibly the moist powerful man in NY state. I was dissapointed with the immediate turn toward a shared stadium w/the NYGs, instead of exploring Queens site adjacent to Shea/Citi Field. That's where Woody dropped the ball. The other sites mentioned (Yonkers/Rockaways) were never seriously considered.
FYI, Dolan was still smarting from losing out on the Jets to Woody, so he hooked up with Silver to block the project.
Thank you for trolling the internet nyjunc. Ok I am wrong. They do wear the team stuff. All I know is every time I see woody johnson make a public appearance he is wearing that. Hate for Woody is that he is an incompetent owner, never worked a day in his life, and expects to build a winner.
It has been downhill since the lockout, the Jets mishandled that offseason which honestly lead to the downfall of TannenBaum..... I still believe things would have been much different if that lockout didnt occur.... As for this season, its been downhill since that INT before the half in Greenbay....
it cost almost $2 bullion in NJ, what o you think it would have cost in NYC? I don't think it was realistic for us to build our own Stadium in Queens.
who cares what he is wearing? you mentioned Jerry Jones, since Woody became owner we have been MUCH more successful than Jones' Cowboys. Woody is a good owner.
We haven't won dick in 40 years. Yes in the short term that Woody has become owner we have 2 or 3 AFC championship games (idk who owned the team in 98 him or Hess) . But that isnt saying much. Hell we've won the divisions 2 times. The freaking Giants go to the superbowl once every 5 years.
why are you here then? though I am sure like most giant fans you disappeared after the first 2 weeks. the difference btw the Jets and Giants from about 2001-current is a couple of calls/bounces of the ball. let's not act like the Giants have been some dynasty team.
Are you kidding me, I have the right to whine about the Jets, four PSL's and have been going to games since I was in the womb. I root for the jets the same reason people root for the cubs, in addition to my financial stake in the team.
if you live in Houston then you probably bought PSLs to sell tickets so I have no sympathy for you. wins and losses come and go, I wouldn't want to root for any other team.
No but they're always competitive (minus a few years with Dave Brown) and they are a no nonsense organization.
Because i like to see the Jets win and i like to talk football. If you don't like it, too bad. And i don't disappear. Week 2 is wayyy too early to assume anything. I was rooting loud and clear. 3-2 now tho so i'm good. I was rooting last year too and the year before that so yeah, nice try, And who said the Giants are a dynasty? Lol you're fuckin weird dude.
