Not at all. RB isn't a need right now but if he panned out we'd have a franchise RB for years to come.
I'd be pretty upset. Our o-line is close to falling off a cliff between Mangold, Brick and Colon and we have question marks at QB and we have issues at WR. Not to mention LB. Running back is a luxury pick and no earlier than the 3rd round at the earliest. He's going to be great but it'd be almost like drafting a DE right now relative to our roster.
can we just flood this thread now, probably the only thing that eases the pain of this season is looking forward to next years cap space and increasingly higher pick...
I'm with this but we don't have to tank we suck just fine on our own. If we're 3-13 through 5-11 we might set up nicely for a top 5 pick.. Mariota would be great and we might even trade up to get our guy..would be great because you truly need a franchise QB to compete and he's this years best shot. Getting an elite Wide Receiver like Amari Cooper would be great too, he might even give Geno a chance in this league. Todd Gurley would be nasty but might not be wise to spend top 5 pick on RB unless we feel he's the next AP. Winston could work if it's how the board falls but I don't know how the fit would be. No matter what we need the best offensive player we can get because this team can't do anything to score points.
Would be sick if we got a very high pick. Traded back(netting another second) and then traded our higher second rd pick with a 4th and another late round pick to end up snagging cooper and Gordon or Gurley and a stud olineman in the first 2 rounds. Then sign Byron maxwell, Justin houston and Randall Cobb to man the slot. Would still have plenty of money left. I think geno can turn it around given a good supporting cast to get him back on track. Yes we have ivory but if like a homerun hitter, and although ivory is a great player he's not the game changer that Gurley or Gordon can become. Both have pro bowl potential which ivory does not have.
I want a wide receiver, offensive guard, and a linebacker who can cover. Forget about cornerback, a rookie corner isn't going to do anything for us. Get a corner in free agency. Wide receiver, guard, and a linebacker to replace Harris. That is it.
Assuming we spend some FA money on offense this year, say Crabtree..... Gurley RD 1. He is that good, I dont care about NFL RB's blah blah, he is a STUD. Rd 2. BPA...Could be anyone from Rashard Greene WR FSU, Dorial Green Beckhman WR Mizzou, or Stephone Antony MLB Clemson. IDK, but no reason why we can't add 2 studs in FA and then draft gurley and shore up the OL etc. Real simple strategy. MARCUS MARIOTTA WILL GET KILLED IF HE IS ON THIS TEAM. HE IS NO PEYTON MANNING EITHER SO LETS GET SOME TALENT HERE.
Hoping we address the O-Line/CB during free agency so we can take a WR round one. We need a stud to go along with Decker.
Trade back in the first for extra second. Take Cedric Ogbuehi. Trade back into first. Take Jaelen Strong or Kevin White. Second round we could target Denzel Perryman or best OLB available. In FA, get Revis back. I don't care if you all hate him.
We are going to set up the next QB to fail unless we provide that foundation. Get the offensive line back to standards, grab Cooper with our top 3 pick and in 2016 - draft the QB. 2015 I wouldn't mind a veteran QB to be honest.
I dont want Mariota or Winston, they arent bad players, I just have a gut feeling it wouldnt work here. This team has some serious needs so I'm not sure what direction to go in. I think the first round would have to be WR/CB/OT. This would be a great time for an extra pick in the first 2 rounds. Address these three positions in the first two rounds and then go for a QB in the third. Sign a QB in the offseason, and have those 2 and Geno battle it out for starter.
I have that same bad feeling about both of those guys. How do you feel about MSU QB Connor Cook? He's much more of a pure pocket passer. Decent mobility, good arm and very poised.
Unfortunately, I dont get to watch nearly as much college football as I would like. Is there a website people use to watch film of college football players. I've heard good things about Cook, but admittadly know nothing about him.
