Personally. I am done for this season. Not likely to watch anymore this year. It is too painful, and at times laughable (in a bad way).
Nah you gotta watch just not closely. The secret is you don't invest too much care into the Jets so that when friends who are fans of other teams criticize the Jets, you just agree and move on. Also, you actively monitor your fantasy team, making waiver claims for the following Wednesday based on the 1:00PM Sunday games. I got this shit down to a science with this bullshit team.
Take it from a Jets fan who's been a fan for 47 years and seen some of the really awful Jets teams (and this team isn't even one of the worst I've seen)...watch the games, suffer through the games. Why? Because it makes all the other crappy things in life seem much better and more endurable
After the long off season, it really is painful to realize this season is over after only five games. It's on thing to see who steps up if your team is out of the playoffs in December. It's quite another when Halloween is in the not so near future.
I'm not a Jet fan and I dont think your season is over...I've been around long enough to see the Jet's ruin Miami's and others play off chances. Rex is a good coach, he just cant get his hands around the QB position.
I'm going to be so depressed if Metzenberger starts for Tenesee and does well for the rest of the season....I wanted him in the draft and the Jets could have taken him at any point up to the 5th round....
just shows how inept Rex and his staff really is. especially when he just brings back Geno next week. I want to move on from Geno to a new solution as quick as possible. and the quickest way to do that is start him all year, see that he isnt the future of the franchise, and move on. after sucking, we would have a high draft pick. its like some people want vick to start, and then be right back in this same situation next year after an 8-8 season where the team says Geno still needs to be evaluated. there is ZERO to be gained by sitting Geno.
Zero to be gained by starting him too. At this rate, the season is already lost. Start Geno/Bench Geno what difference does it make. We already know Geno is NOT the franchise, Vick is gone at years' end and Simms isn't in the conversation. The Jets would be better served by dumping the rest of the season and rolling the dice on draft day 2015. Then again, Idzik would probably fuck that up too.
I tend to be conservative with categorical pronouncements, and have been reluctant to go there assessing Smith despite my general skepticism of him. Which continues to grow apace. Am I there yet? On an emotional level, yes, since I concluded despite the lack of production from Vick that I would really, and i mean really, prefer not to see Smith play anymore. So in that sense I agree with you. He's already shown a regression in real games despite being handed the starting job in camp. What more do we need to see of him? Nothing. The part I disagree with you is about Vick. While I think the Jets will need to go high pick in the draft at Qb this coming off season, they will also need a vet Qb next year. Why not Vick? It's not like there are a host of other options. His age does make him problematic - at 35 next year, there's not much of a window there for developing a rookie Qb at a proper pace. I would prefer someone more Bradford's age and situation, as was discussed on the other thread yesterday. But there's nothing to stop the parties from agreeing to bring Vick back next year. And he may end up being the best vet Qb option available. So let him play, see what he's still got, and if he still can get it done, bring Vick back next year.
I don't have time to read all the replies (post game) but I'll high five the OP just the same. 2009 WC playoff game this thread would have become classic!
There is ALOT to gain by starting him. if you start him all year, then there are no more excuses, and there is a large enough sample size to say "ok, he clearly isnt the long term awnser, lets move on". we may already think geno is not the awnser, but the team will never move on unless there is a full second season of sample size and every excuse is gone. i dont want to be here 2 years from know still shuffling geno in and out of the lineup cause "well maybe he can be the guy we didnt give him enough of a chance" quickest way to move on from geno is start him all year
