A good OLine allows a QB to make plays. A bad OLine allows a QB to get crushed and make bad decisions/get happy feet and with enough hits, a QB will feel the pressure no matter who or what they are.
A good QB doesnt take 37 step dropbacks either. Plenty of bad o-lines in this league. Plentyyy of em.
I'm surprised it took some non Jets fans this long to figure it out. Leading up to this many experts pointed out how Geno had CJ2K, Decker, Amaro, etc. Now after Vick came through and did worse probably, many experts are realizing the Jets offensive talent is 0 especially when Decker is hurt
The QB is taking steps back because the pocket is collapsing far too soon. We're fortunate its not Flacco or Eli back there, we have 2 QBs who have some kind of athleticism with their feet. Sure there are, and one of them exists here in New York.
he had no choice. Every time he dropped back that far it was to escape the defender in his fucking face. what do you do there? I literally asked myself that all day. "what the hell is he supposed to do there?"
From the current offensive position coaches, I'd keep Anthony Lynn and David Lee. Other position coaches? It's a grade A shitstorm. By the way, I've been crying out about these from the bottom of my lung for about good 4 years or so. Jets OL coach is a joke, WR coach is a joke and TE coach is a joke. I am not including David Lee in that group as of yet because I don't think he had a chance to establish a QB with proper protection. In that regard, Anthony Lynn is the only one that can take a pass.
Who thought the talent was ever good? We don't have any receivers. We had the worst receiving corps by far in the nfl last year and all we did was sign Decker and drafted a bunch of scrubs. I liked the Decker signing but we needed more. I love Kerley and David Nelson is a very nice guy but they are not starting caliber nfl receivers. They're mediocre Wr4/ or Wr/5 types. Amaro is a solid TE but nothing special. And the o-line is weak. Idzik has put together a horrible team and Rex is getting nothing out of them. They're a bunch of loudmouth clowns who have no offensive identity and give up a ton of big plays on D. Can we please just clean house and get some real football minds running this team?
A good portion of the media thought the talent was there, I mean why else say Geno is the reason the offense isn't successful?
Idk who thought we really upgraded the receiver position. I'm Deckers defense, he's been hurt all year. But we have little to nothing beyond him. Ivory was a great trade. But when teams can sell our to stop the run, how effective can he be? The talent on this team is so weak. We just need a regime chance. Idzik and Rex must go.
Idzik will be the one to have lifted us out of the dirt, we kept 20 million so we could spend on our guys, spend on some free agents and STILL be in a position to be cap friendly. Its hard to see, but something tells me it'll be worth it in the end, the moment we get THE best FA at a needy position (again) will be the moment we realized that not spending to the tip top every year has its benefits.
His entire strategy is predicated on acquiring mediocre to subpar talent for cheap in hopes one of three or four will pan out. It's a joke.
its non-committal, and low risk for better or worse, he'd rather be on the the side of caution than be caught with a terrible situation and players we don't want to keep in the future. this has its ups and downs, as we can well see. but hell, if anything, it gives us flexibility.
The Idzik era has brought us following offensive talent through the draft: geno smith, brian winters, oday aboushi, william campbell (cut), tommy bohanon (IR), jace amaro, jalen saunders (cut), shaq evans(IR), dakota dozier, quincy enunwa (PS) and tajh boyd (Cut). Even though winters and smith are starting, the jury is still out on them. amaro flashes at times but it still largely invisible. I understand this "building through the draft" won't happen overnight, but there barely seems to be any form of significant improvements from any of these players who are still on the roster. Geno looks better, but it's not a "whoa" better. Winters is winters. Aboushi can't beat out winters. drafted WR are hurt or can't even crack the roster. If you ask a fan base to be patient in your approach, at least show us some sign of improvements. Woody doesn't know what he wants...one week he wants to win now, the next week he wants to be patient. Idzik, IMO gets way more credit than he deserves, and deters free agents from even wanting to visit. Wilk, kerley, davis, and snacks better be locked up long-term come off season, that's the only reason I can justify having so much cap room.
JI MUST be looking to lock those guys up. he doesn't, then I'll agree with those who want him gone, for now his biggest folly is not going more all in with his available cap space, which itself isn't the worst thing in the world… but once again thats contingent upon what he does with the money in the next several months or so. Its only stupid if he doesn't make the obvious re-signings. as for his drafting, I'm just in wait and see mode for the most part. offensively, Amaro has the brightest future, TE's are known to take a while before making an impact, even Graham wasn't the man he is now his first time out, if numbers are any indication.
agreed, not putting too much on this year's draft class, but you would like to see some sort of improvement from last year draft class.
It 100% goes further than just the QB. BUT we don't have a QB for our future on our roster... It is what it is.. FOREVER GREEN, FOREVER TORMENTED.
Given the fact that Ivory is the better running back and that we have no receivers, why haven't the coaches moved Chris Johnson to receiver full time?
There isn't even any imagination in how they use Johnson. How about sweeps, misdirections, how about do what you're suggesting. We have a weapon on our offense and they don't know how to use him. Let Ivory and Powell get those tough yards pounding the rock.
