He went from 57% completion to 60%. His int rate is down, his QB rating went from 69 to 75. Considering his God awful play last year you have to have more realistic expectations for Geno. If this is year 4 or 5 then I can totally agree.
I am not being a d*ck, I am seriously asking a question. You were one of the biggest Idzik supporters on the board. I remember we got into it about the Dimitri Patterson signing. What has changed? Again, I am seriously not being a d*ck just want to know what did if for you.
That's a fair question. When we were in free agency, I was not wanting to spend a lot of money. Time and time again I saw teams spend tons and have no record to show for it. It's almost a curse that hasn't been broken. There were two glaring holes we needed though, receiver and corner. Signing Eric Decker was an awesome move. Not only did it help a talentless receiving corp, but it was a signing that would pave the way for future picks or signings at receiver. He will be an awesome compliment to a very good #1 guy. Missing out on the corners was something I was a little confused about. Thought there were some excellent corners out there that were looking for money that I thought we could spend. Was it overpaying? Likely, but it was what was necessary for us to be successful. When Idzik dropped the ball on that, I thought he had something more planned. We signed Dimitri Patterson, who, at the time, was a great signing. He was cheap and living in Miami, I watched him play with Dolphins. Was very talented and had a great eye for turnovers. Cheap, effective, and would help Milliner on the other side. Little did I know he would do what he did to get himself kicked off the team. All the pieces started to fall and we were left with a roster filled with cheap unproven signings and 12 draft picks. Things looked good. Even though these signings were nothing to brag about, we spent little to no money in free agency and walked away with cheap talent and a ton of picks. We are now four games into the season, and I think Idzik is an idiot. Do I still trust him? Yeah, but he needs to figure this shit out fast. Patterson was kicked off the team. We have no talent at receiver still, only Decker and Kerley. Our QB sucks. Our offensive line is middle of the pack to bad. The secondary is horrendous. There are holes everywhere. So where have we improved from last year? We got worse at corner, our offensive line still struggles, our QB still sucks, and other than one guy at receiver, who is now battling injuries, we are still starting guys like David Nelson. Our best outside receiver at this moment is a guy who was released from his team, David Nelson. So here I am, four games in and everything Idzik has done has provided little to no talent on the field. Is he paving the way for the future? Likely. Is he saving money to sign guys like Wilkerson? Likely. But a huge draft was fucked up, we signed no weapons at receiver other than Decker, we signed no corners that have upgraded our secondary, and our QB still sticks a giant dick.
DRC isn't the answer to the Jets problems. he's had one very good game for the Giants He's better than Walls and Allen but not great. It wasn't like they did nothing about the cornerback position. They did sign Patterson and didn't know Milliner would be injured. Having $20 mil in unspent cap space doesn't mean the owner doesn't want to make the playoffs. If they make the playoffs he makes more money in the long term and the franchise value goes up.
Idzik addressed the secondary in two drafts. Unfortunate things happened but it wasn't like he sat on his ass and did nothing.
This team will go nowhere when Geno Smith cannot take the ball from under center. Does anyone have a stat sheet as to how many times he has taken the ball from center and the Avg Yrd per play from center. It would be a joke with his ten step drops
It sucks that we didnt trade up or anything for a more talented receiver, that would have been hugely helpful. But keep in mind that we still have 8 draft picks on the team or PS(I believe), probably good for most in the NFL. It sucks that we cut loose a 4th rounder but there is still a chance that this class succeeds. Pryor/Amaro/McDougle/Evans/Dozier/IK/Enunwa/Reilly. Pryor and Amaro are already contributing, and I havent noticed, but I assume Reilly is getting ST play. Health permitting, McDougle and Evans will probably be on the team next season. Dozier and IK look like their getting red shirted lol. Idzik clearly thinks highly enough that he doesnt want them getting poached off the PS. Enunwa sounded like he had potential in training camp, but who really knows lol. The lacked of top end receiver talent is annoying, but its much to early to label this draft class a failure.
Sorry Junc as I do not want my Twitter AC littered with shoulda, couldas & wouldas as before I will not furnish U my Twitter handle
Fair enough, I respect that. Some people will stick to their original position no matter what the case, so the fact that you have changed your tune in 4 games.....I respect that. With that said, I don't trust Idzik AT ALL and here is why: 1. This was pegged to be one of the best WR classes in recent history with not only some top heavy talent in the first couple rounds, but overall depth. The fact that we went into the draft as probably the #1 WR needy team and we waiting until the 4th round to draft developmental WRS shows me the guy has essentially no clue, even after the Decker signing. Look around the league at elite QBs. Aside from Brady (which I think further proves this point) teams are ALWAY getting their QBs MORE weapons. Peyton has Welker, Thomas, and Thomas and they go and get Sanders. GB has Nelson and Cobb and they draft Adams. Eli has Cruz and Randall and they get Beckham (yes he's hurt, but not the point). These are Super Bowl winning QBs and the idea was to get them MORE firepower in a passing league. Decker, as you said was a great signing in my opinion, but how could he thing that signing Decker, adding a rookie TE and some project WRs fixes the worst WR situation in football with a young QB? 2) DeSean Jackson was on the market and to my knowledge, we never seriously even considered bringing him in? Despite having a connection to MM (who for all we know may have said he didnt want him) and would have been the perfect compliment to Decker. But to me, you are the GM. Marty, you don't like Jackson? Guess what, your job is to coach and my job is to accumulate talent. So I am not buying the MM thing that some have floated out there. 3) Our other biggest glaring needs are CB and pass rusher. So what do we do? We sign a journeyman CB that has never stayed healthy in his career instead of taking a $3 million gamble on a guy who has mostly been healthy except for last year (Cro) knows our system, and does EXACTLY what the coaching staff needs him to do in the scheme. This is not revisionist history on my part. When we didn't resign Cro I was furious. Everyone kept saying how bad he was last year, but it was clear he was injured. To me, that was a better gamble then Patterson (forget the AWOL crap, nobody could see that coming, but he was said to have more diva than depth to his play before he walked in.) Now if Idzik had someone else he wanted to pay and thats why he got rid of Cro, I can live with that. But he let him walk out the door without a viable replacement and we end up wit Patterson. 4) Passrusher - we did NOTHING there to help. Babin was a signing I liked, but to think that would fix the issue is crazy. 5) Cap Space - everyone made it sound like spending money had to be an either or proposition. Either spend it all or save it all. We had (and still have) GLARING holes on this team and are sitting on a King'sRansom for what? The NFL is a win now league. You field a competitive team every year with the goal of getting to the playoffs then build from there. Look at ATL last year. Look at the Saints this year. You never know when you things might just click or fall to shit. So this building for the future mantra we keep hearing is great, but that doesnt mean complete shit on the present. We had some very good experienced safeties hit the FA market and we didn't make much a move to sign any of them. Why not sign one of them, a veteran corner, and a D Jax in the offseason? That would have left us going into the draft with the ability to truly BPA with all those picks. But it appeared as if we had no plan in the draft. Which brings me to.... 6) the Draft - we had 12 picks and we used them very inefficiently. Had we addressed needs in FA, we would have been able to package picks and move around the board to address the real needs ofd this team with more proven talent than we did. Aside from Amaro and Pryor, we drafted a lot of project type players and we are paying for it. It's way to early to judge this draft, but to not get 4-5 players with 12 picks that are contributors is a failure. And thats the way its looking now. Bottom line is this guys seems clueless. His approach to FA ended up f*cking us in the draft and now we sit with a marginally talented team and a murky future ahead. I have no faith in this guy and if he were gone at the end of the season, I would applaud Woody for realizing his mistake and cutting his losses. This guy is clueless. He is playing the role of a turtle in a game that requires a cheetah.
reilly has been the 1st player to come off the bench for the base d..babin is off the bench on passing downs
The problem is your applying logic to a team that has no common sense. If this were the Steelers the owner and the GM would both be saying Rex's job is not on the line at all, we're assembling a team that will compete and Rex is the guy to lead that team. They're not the Steelers though.. Neither Woody nor Idzik have said anything remotely close to this regarding Rex. Rex can't even state that he has control to pull the QB because he doesn't have that power any longer. He's not the HC any longer... Pretty sad situation for him but he's putting up with it for some reason. If it were me and they only extended me through this year I would have walked and starting looking for another HC job. I don't get why Rex is allowing himself to look like a buffoon.
It's gotten better as the season progressed. Last week was the first time I saw him pass under center.
