What kills me are teams like the Giants get lucky TWICE with walk ons aka Cruz... Donnell... the Jags hit it big on a FA receiver... the Bears end up with Fuller and Jeffery.... and then its us man our last big time FA was Chrebet lol
This board is so against trading these treasured picks a 5th for D Jax a 2nd for Gordon etc etc now in most cases I would agree... but man we should already know we are the Jets lol same goes for singing older guys its like whoever we sign end up over the hill and teams such as the Ravens usually hit !
People forget the fact that we have these on our roster as well. Just because teams don't hit on these players all the time doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Damon Harrison (UDFA), Antonio Allen (7th round), and Jeremy Kerley (late 5th) all start for this team and are key contributors. If teams were lined with these gold mines then they'd win the Super Bowl every year.
I have a legimtimate question for the masses. If say next offseason (regardless of coaching staff) the Jets can sign one of the following: Dez Bryant, Randall Cobb, Torrey Smith, Jordy Nelson, Michael Crabtree, Demaryius Thomas, & even Cecil Shorts, wouldnt that be better than blowing the cap this offseason on Emmanuel Sanders or Golden Tate? I also was wondering for the people who are more involved in the cap if the Cowboys how likely it is for Dallas to resign Dez and work it into the salary cap? However shield your eyes looking at the FA CBs!
Our offense needs a ton more help that's for sure... With Dexter coming back and another year under Dee's belt (if he can stay on the field) I would much rather focus on the offense !
No number one receiver wants to come here and ruin his career. We got Decker because he was a 2 and wanted to be a 1.
I listed no players over 30. And if I understand the salary cap correctly, the 20 million that carries over will give the Jets $75 million in cap space assuming a $140 million cap. 2015 Expected Cap - $140 million Current Cap Charges 2015: 85 million Carryover- $20 million I know that all of that wouldnt go to free agents also.
We will have a lot of cap room. Idzik is absolutely right on his approach, but unfortunate with injuries and a few missed picks/FA signings this year.
I agree with your central point. A top wideout looks at Smith and says "If I go there, my stats go in the toilet."
I think that was more a thinness at the position. Wilkerson was less than Stellar. He was good enough against the run and invisible at most times rushing the passer. Of course everyone saw potential but he was invisible fairly often. Sheldon was a much more impactful rookie than Wilkerson. Of course Sheldon had more talent around him which helps. Its also easier to hide a DE than it is a cornerback.
I am pretty sure you are looking at the 2014 cap number. Go here ----> http://overthecap.com/salary-cap/new-york-jets
You really think Decker combined with most any of those receivers wouldn't drastically improve any quarterbacks play when they're used to Salas & Nelson?
