And here is another thing, Geno Smith has NEVER put together consecutive good performances. The only time he did was at the end of last year in meaningless games. Outside of that he cant even put together a string of good performances. People keep comparing him to Mark Sanchez, but Sanchez at times had games where he looked very good. Geno hasnt shown anything and is currently the worst starter in the league right now. He wasnt even that good in college, he ran an offense that basically never would work in the NFL, he put up huge stats which put his name on the map, but he has never shown he can operate an NFL offense without making mistakes. Vick on the other hand has gone through streaks of very good games, yes he makes mistakes, turns it over but he can also put it together for a good amount of time.
A loss is a loss is a loss. Geno is a problem but we suck in several other areas as well. put in vick and we dont get to more then 8 or 9 wins.
That was Vick's statline with the eagles under chip kelly, not with the jets under marty. do i think he would do better then geno? probably. but i dont think that really matters
It's a different team, different offensive philosophy, etc. I don't think there's a fair apples to apples comparison to make. But as long as we're going down that road, Vick threw 2 picks last time he played Detroit (when their defense was worse) and threw for 213 and a pick last time he played Chicago. We can paint the stats any way we want for one game samples.
So you say he never had back to back good performances and then site an example of when he did. Solid argument
I have absolutely no idea whether or not Vick is the answer. But I KNOW this... Geno Smith is definitely not the answer.
If they bench Geno, and Vick doesn't improve things (likely), I hope they dont go back to Geno right away. I dont want to hear all the PR about how those 1 or 2 weeks on the bench matured him.... he's a new Geno, all that BS we heard in the Spring. Either bring someone in off the street or even give Simms a try. See if someone else can stick here and maybe the Jets catch a break.
I think this is the scenario they fear most. If Vick comes in and things don't change, then they have to backtrack to Geno and things remain the same even with the softer schedule. That leaves us with drafting yet another "Franchise Qb" in the first round instead of more defense. We all know how much we need more defense in the first round.
Let's see . Geno commits turnovers in dumb fashion and makes no plays. Vick commits turnovers but makes plays. What is so hard to get. Gonna commit crap turnovers ? Ok then come back and make a play. Something Geno clearly can't do but Vick has shown he can.
Rebuilding does not equate to repeatedly trotting out a shitty QB! Where did you learn this nonsense? Brainwashed.
I dont give a shit about meaningless games, do you? do you put stock into games where the result didnt matter? I DONT.
It's not about Vick coming in and tearing it up and all of a sudden our receivers get better and what not. The team is what it is. But Vick knows how to play QB at the NFL level. Geno is still learning and still making the same mistakes he made last year. Has he improved? Yes. But his mistakes still cost this team. I watched Geno once or twice yesterday avoid the pressure nicely, step up in the pocket and start to run, then stop and throw a ball across his body across the field for about 3 yards. The pass was completed but it was a horrible decision and a ball that gets picked more often then not. He got away with it. He still does things like that. He still doesnt protect the ball. He still runs to the sideline and runs out of play, taking 2-3 yard losses instead of flipping the ball away. He still doesnt protect the ball as well as he should, especially in the red zone. Geno has talent. But its not a terrible idea to let him sit and watch Vick play for a while before coming back in.
We can only judge by the games he plays. But if i was trying to enforce a p.o.v. i would try to discount any evidence to the contrary also
