I agree with this. However, if I'm cutting bait on a guy because his ceiling is Rivers and not Peyton, I think that's a mistake. Basically there's like 0.5 elite QBs per NFL draft. Or less. If Geno isn't past the point of no return, then we need to ride it out and see what we have. Benching him and letting him "learn" under Vick makes no sense. Vick's not that much better, if at all, and is definitely not the future. So I'd rather at least see what future we might or might not have with Geno. If he's stuck learning behind Vick, then does that mean we give him another chance in a couple years and pretend like that benching turns him into Aaron Rodgers because now he's got time to learn? I would have been in favor of that in his rookie year, but not past that. That's the main reason I think we should stick with Geno.
I agree with all of your comments and add to it that they won't have to dumb down the playbook like they did with Geno yesterday. You can't be successful when your playbook is limited due to the lack of mental acuity of your QB. Vick isn't the answer long term but its looking more and more like Geno isn't either.
if he was throwing more - which he is -- and putting up points i could live with the turnovers and say well he has more on his shoulders but he is putting points on the board. He isn't -- more on his shoulders and he is going backwards. In 2011 when they basically told Sanchez ok go carry the team he at least put up over 30 total TDs. In 2010 he didn't light up the score board but his TD total increased and his interceptions/fumbled went down(17-13-5 vs 12-20-8) plus he was strong in the post season...At worst this season Geno has to put up more TDs than last season and less interceptions - he is on pace for 16 TD and 20 Int with 8 fumbles - so 4 more TDs and 3 more turnovers. Not exactly what you are looking for.
Mike Vick's last 16 starts (2012-13) 5 wins 11 losses 57% completion percentage 17 Tds, 13 interceptions 223 yards per game, 7.27 yards per attempt 43 sacks 638 rushing yards, 15 fumbles
It seems to me that the more he throws, the more he has turnovers. The Bears game he should have had 2 more interceptions. Yesterday when the Jets basically stripped him of trowing, he was useless, we couldnt get a first down at all when we played it safe. The first half conservative play style is worse than the the aggressive turnover offense imo though. I rather go down swinging than just sitting their and trying not to make a mistake.
Hey look, here's something new, it's a bunch of Jets fans arguing about why we should keep trotting our bottom of the barrel turnover machine of a QB out there.
Lmao It's fuckin hysterical that you people are arguing against bringing in another quarterback when we literally have the second worst quarterback in the league right now. There are 30+ other quarterbacks that rank higher than Geno Smith yet you morons are wondering what benefit it would have to start Vick? Lmfao the ignorance is strong in this thread haha
I'm okay with whatever decision they make either way. I can understand if they decide to go with Vick. The Jets have playoff expectations so maybe he can give them a spark. Plus benching Geno isnt a finality on Geno ever becoming a good QB. On the other hand I can understand keeping Geno in. You give him a chance to play himself out of his funk or you make him give you no choice but to bench him. I like Geno and I think he can be good. But his decision making has to improve.
Im sick of threads like this. We SUCK. The offense has SUCKED. Geno has SUCKED. How could Vick possibly make it worse? Could it hurt to try? We're already looking at the season being over in the first week of October
Yes, the love for shit play is hard to understand. I had no idea there were so many masochists among the fanbase.
I dont think we will beat San Diego but we certainly will not beat them with Geno starting. The players will never admit it but I am confident they wouldnt mind seeing a change at the position. It would re-ignite the overall moral of this team that appears to be down. A win in San Diego would rescue our season, could you imagine the hype for the Denver game if we somehow came into the game at 2-3? The team would be positive, the fanbase would be alive again, the whole world would just flip on everything. We need to put ourselves in the best position to enter week 5 at 2-3. Right now though, I as many other am not looking forward to next weeks game. We will lose, and I dont think its going to be close like the last three games.....
Here is the thing.... even if vick IS better in all those areas, what difference does it make. we still arent a contending team. We are still in the middle of a rebuild, and all it does i make Geno linger around and maybe start again next season pushing our rebuild/QB situation back another year. IF we had a young QB behind geno instead of vick, sure that makes sense. if we had a decent team that could win 10-11 games sure. we are 4-6 win type team talent wise with a 35 year old backup. it makes 0 sense to bench geno unless we bring in someone else via trade
There is no rebuilding in the NFL - you need young guys to play batter, draft picks to be right, and your QB not to shit the bed. Jets have failed in those three important categories.
This is beyond false. We lost to Green Bay by 7, to Chicago by 8, and to Detroit by 7. The fact that you think we are not a contending team is ridiculous. Had Geno not shit the bed in those three games, we would be 4-0 having beat Green Bay, Chicago, and Detroit. You're confusing shit quarterback play with overall play. This team is a very talented team that could definitely make the playoffs.
This is Vick stat line against San Diego last year 23/36, 428 yards, 2 passing TDs, and 34 rushing yards plus a rushing TD. You don't think Vick could do MUCH better than Geno? We are 1-3. We don't know if Vick can or can not turn this team around. We have to find out. Jets need to start Vick next week.
If the only improvement Vik brought to the team was this then I'd be happy with the change.... It's INFURIATING to see Geno 'scramble' to the sideline and run out of bounds for -2 yards. THROW THE BALL AWAY. Not only does this increase the chance of a hold and wear down our ENTIRE TEAM it looses us yardage for absolutely no reason. Also, I really don't understand where the whole "We have to let Geno learn" thing is coming from. QB's used to do that with a clipboard in their hand and there are plenty that turned out JUST FINE in that process... ( See Aaron Rodgers ). The theory that he's not going to learn anything unless we continue to lose games at his expense is foolish.
This is the type of nonsense that leads to mediocrity every fuckin year!! This team is a 4-6 win talent wise? says who? -Maybe the guy who refuses to upgrade the talent despite having over 20million in cap space... -Maybe the guy who cannot get the most out of the most important position there is and is so loyal that he refuses to make necessary changes to make the team better? sure- those are great reasons this team is a 4-6 win type team. If I want to accept mediocrity and failure I will support the guy's that are making that happen (Rex & Idzik) and shrug my shoulders and say it's a 4-6 win team anyway... Where I am sitting they have as much or more talent than any of the other teams in this weak division. Everybody HAS weaknesses and is "rebuilding". Here, they still have the cap room and time to make a move to at least improve their biggest weakness (secondary) and they have a veteran QB who has won in this league waiting for the chance to take over. But nah - let's not do either until it's too late because you know "this is a 4-6 win team" anyway....
