Presumably, by this comment, you believe Vick would lead the league in turnovers? Because right now, Geno leads the league in turnovers, so therefore, Vick could not be "just as turnover prone" unless he led the league in turnovers. I am of the believe that our QB play has been so bad for so long (over 5 years now) that people have no idea what it's like (and how much easier it is to win) not to be starting the worst QB in the league.
Idk if I believe that is their plan but if so it's pretty stupid. The AFC East is going to be down this year. Buffalo & Miami look as bad as we have and if NE loses a tough road game tonight (which they very well may) we will STILL only be a game back of the division with all the losses being to NFC teams. If there is any desire to make a run at the division and there should be... then there isn't a better time to make a change than now
I'm truly torn between staying with Geno and making the switch to Vick. I was very much in favor of starting the season with Vick and letting him play through this part of the schedule as far as he could until he broke his collar bone while Geno watched from the bench. But since that ain't the chosen path, I almost feel we gotta stay with Geno for now. He hasn't played horrible, and has kept all three losses to within 1 score. In two of those losses he's put up 300 yards and the Jets O is rated in the top half of the league. And I agree that Geno is one of those QBs who will only get better by being on the field. Since the next 3 games are the toughest on our schedule and could easily be losses no matter who's playing QB, I guess I'd stick with Geno Smith and keep Vick in our back pocket for now. With Milliner coming back soon and with Amaro/Decker/Kerley/Salas getting more game reps the Jets SHOULD start playing a bit better each week naturally without making a huge switch at QB. I'd let it play out 3 more games.
We need a change of pace . If Vick craps out too, then we know one of our draft needs for 2015 ( QB) .
Geno is struggling. While i don't expect vick to come in and save the season, at this point maybe geno could use a week off to observe, where the headphones and see the game from another perspective.
Vick at least would be somewhat exciting to watch. He'll turn the ball over for sure but he might put up more points.
Less turnovers, more explosive offense, defenses fear Michael Vick, score more, etc. The list goes on and on. We have the second worst quarterback in the league right now. The only worse one is Jake Locker, yet you want to know how Vick would benefit us? Fuckin Ryan Tannehill would do wonders over Geno Smith. 30+ other quarterbacks are better than Smith.
So was I, all the way up until a few games ago. There's no more excuses for him anymore. He sucks. Plain and simple
My tipping point was last week vs Bears. In the red zone he scrambles out to the left and with all the time in the world throws an off balance ball that gets intercepted in the end zone. He is just not a good QB. Put Vick in for the rest of the year then draft a QB in 1st round.
The hope he is a spark.. The team knows that Geno is going to struggle an is going to turn the ball over at least two times. Vick at least allows the playbook to open up...make gets the team hyped a bit, they play a step faster, make the extra effort. Geno is dragging the entire team down with him week after week. You can't let him start back at met Life if he goes out next week and throws two interceptions and the team loses another game. One way or another his season is on the line Sunday in San Diego.
True or on 3rd down he has a clear 1st if he runs it but for some reason throws it across the field to Amaro who is brought down immediately behind the marker and we have to punt.
If you are not going to replace Smith now, then why did you get Vick? On the chance Smith got hurt? Preseason "competition" was a joke. Vick was brought in why? Safety net? To push Smith? Smith has regressed. His decision making ability is being challenged because he is being asked to do too much. He's missing easy throws (screen pass to Ivory). Missing when to run (3rd & 10, 4 yard dump off instead of an easy first down with his legs). Starting Vick against San Diego does not mean the end of Smith's career but he needs to see a few games from the sidelines or his career could be over.
He has not progressed, yes he has thrown the ball better but he is on pace for more turnovers/interceptions than last year, so he has regressed in that area, which is significant. You might think turnovers arent important when judging a QB, but I do.
Talk to an Eagles fan and they'll disagree. He's fairly dreadful as well. Everyone loves the backup QB, especially when they used to be an electric player whose best days are long gone. If Vick is better, it's marginal at best. The only reason I would entertain the move is if it would light a fire under a stagnant offense that maybe quietly blames Geno for their recent failures. I think Vick could come in in a pinch and be a solid option for us, but I think this season is better left testing Geno and seeing if he's worth building around or if he's career backup material (like our last starter became). It's been 4 games, I give him at least 4 more to see what he's got. Put him through the test. We're not building for the future with Vick, so it's just a waste of time to start him.
