help me understand, what would Vick change exactly?

I know the reaction is emotional with little thought behind it, but what is it people expect from Vick?

Reduced turnovers? Nope, vick is just as turnover prone.

More accuracy? Nope, Vick would be lucky to pass 60%

    Better runner? Yeah, I guess.

    Will the wrs/rbs/te
    Stop dropping passes? Nope

Did Vick outplayed geno during camp/preseason? Nope

Will the o line stop letting guys
    Penetrate untouched?

I understand some want to see a little electricity, but looking at the bigger picture, Geno needs snaps to improve. You can't practice looking off a safety with a clipboard in your hand.
Geno Smith has all the raw materials and intangibles to be elite. The areas he needs to work on require live experience. Benching him would delay that.

I'm not saying you can't bench him at all, but facing the #1 D (D that did the same to Rodgers) is not the best sample to make that desicion.

Stop trying to use logic. People can't deal with logic here. Clearly Vick must start! (sarcasm)

Vick is one big hit away from the rocking chair and the way our Wr's are getting played, that hit wouldn't be more than a game or two down the line. Vick is a better option than Brunell was, but from a step in a play perspective, he should be the last resort instead of a first option. Ego tends to make people think they are more than they really are and I'm sure Vick thinks he can still play at a high level in the league when in fact, his style of play really is going away as more Qb's get hurt running than passing.

I disagree with this part. Against the #1 D is exactly how you measure talent.

Then Aaron Rodgers isn't good. He struggled just as much against the Lions.

San Diegos defense is tougher, I dont care what the stats say. That game in San Diego is no game for a QB who is absolutely struggling.

Can you tell us exactly how many more snaps GeezNo needs in order to improve since you seem to know everything?

The simple answer is that Vick is a better QB. I know there are fans who hate him because of his past but it's very obvious that he's a better QB IMO. so the offense would be better. that's what would change.

but we're rebuilding the proper way so that means we must continue watching shit qb. because yea.

Better than the Jets defense, worse than the Lions defense. How is that wrong?

Geno hasnt shown any improvement either, at all He actually looks like he is regressing in certain areas which is un-explainable considering we did improve the talent level around him (ever so slightly).

    Vick would likely ..

Not run out of bounds 5 yards before the LOS and throw it away

Not drop back 20 yards when pressure is in his face and take a sack dropping us out of field goal range

Actually scramble in the red zone with his feet and not fumble( the man broke his sternum in Philly doing work to get in the end zone)

Not DEFINATLEY NOT. Turn it over in the red zone as much as geno

    He has better field vision

The mere concept of his mobility changes the midset of the opposing defense

He is mature and can garner the respect of the younger teammates. He has much more to offer as far as leadership and huddle presence

This is a no brainer. Geno is done. After his little curse out sesh. He doesn't have what it takes

Lets clarify one more thing for us pro-vick guys. Benching Geno Smith does not signify the end of his NFL starting career, right now he struggling, the best thing for him is to get benched. It will light a fire under him, he would have to respond. He would likely get a chance to respond this season due to the fact Vick does get hurt/struggle.

But for now I would give the job to Vick, we need to win in San Diego, we just have to, and I thinks sending Geno into San Diego would only make the problem worse.

Vick can play with not wanting to turn the ball over but what happens if we get down scorewise? What happens when penalties and drops make it a 3rd and long on a clear passing down? If the running game doesn't get off to a good start what happens?

You can't have Vick play controlled, that's never been his M.O. If Vick is playing out there, he's thinking he can hit home runs with his legs or arm. That's in his DNA, he's not changing that. For better or worse, Vick is going out there to extend plays even if at the cost of his health. You can't have a game manager operate this offense successfully, the talent just isn't there to carry a QB to success. If Vick is going out there to play, he's going to try and make big play after big play happens, even if at the cost of turnover(s).

There won't be much of a difference success wise for this team.

    To answer the OP's question:

I'm not expecting Vick to light the world on fire but he's a savvy vet that could be what this offense needs. Geno Smith missed A LOT of open receivers yesterday, that's something I don't think Vick would do. His experience would allow him to see the field better and with this complicated multi-option west coast offense, you need a guy who can see the field.

Also, one thing Vick would bring is the ability to win games or efficiently move the offense even when he isn't playing particularly well. That's one thing about Geno Smith.. he needs to be at the top of his game otherwise it's a given loss. You aren't going to be comfortable playing your best football every game. Sometimes it's just not your day or the defense is doing a great job getting after you. But good QBs can recognize this and work around it for a win. Vick can do that. Geno Smith cannot.

I agree with most of this until you say Geno has the raw materials and intangibles to be elite, I think he has the talent to be a good QB in the same boat as a guy like Carson Palmer, Alex Smith, Phillip Rivers category but far from elite. Those guys are good enough to win games and even playoff games but he'll never be in the same regard as Manning, Brees, Rodgers. I don't think Geno has put the team on his back and carry them to a SB talent, he has the ability to win the SB but he'll need a lot more around him than what he has now. A guy like Manning or Brees could probably get this team to the AFC Championship game but there are too many weaknesses in the secondary and OL to win one. There is a reason Geno was drafted in the 2nd round and the Jets didn't get steal some elite QB in the 2nd round.

If this was 2004-06 I would agree with you. Those are pretty much the only years he played complete seasons.

Why worry right now if he can complete a season or not? This team is 1-3 about to be 1-6 in three short weeks and the reason people don't want to play Vick is because he is injury prone? When this team is 1-6 it isn't going to matter if Geno Smith is less injury prone than Vick. At that point we will be playing for a draft pick. This is the time to begin thinking about the present only.

We are already playing for a draft pick. Vick changes nothing except where we choose. Geno needs to win 7 of the remaining games and show amazing improvement to stay. If Vick plays and we end up better than 8-8 because he pulls 2 or 3 out his ass we get to have Geno start next year too.
