I agree, but that doesn't mean Nelson shouldn't have done what I said. No doubt it's Geno's fault, but that doesn't mean Nelson and Sudfeld didn't do the wrong thing.
its not even worth talking about.. kris jenkins and suh are completely different players.. and wilkerson is not a edge player…interior players do not like playing nt because it is to hard for them to get sacks..and another thing is nt.'s are 2 down players in todays game and are not on the field during nicker downs. so its not worth to pay a lot for one
I didn't read every post in this thread, but it seems like only 1 person suggested it. (OP) I don't see anybody else hopping on the bandwagon.
Idzik is literally following the Seahawks model to the point right now, where it's almost weird. 2010 - 7-9 - Beat the Saints in the Playoffs and shattered expectations. 2011 - 7-9 - Missed the Playoffs when everyone expected a huge jump. 49er's made the huge jump at 13-3 but came up short. 2012 - 11-5 - Made it to the divisional round and looked great doing so. 2013 - 13-3 - Won Super Bowl. Alot of people though forget that 2011 season. The timeline you hear is usually "They beat the Saints in the Playoffs, improved to 11-5, then won the Super Bowl." The Jets this year are going to go 7-9 or 8-8. That much is clear right now. They still have an awful receiving core, especially with Decker out. Their O-Line is average at best, and I'm not so sure it's even that anymore. Their secondary is not only depleted but extremely young. Earl Thomas was on both of those 7-9 teams. Sherman was on one. Same as Russell Okung. Half a great team (especially a young one) doesn't make a Super Bowl winner. It does however allow your GM to clearly target the areas of the team that need improvement, instead of trying to fix everything at once.
For post 8,000 all I have to say... is even if we go off the rails, I think continuity is crucial for success, especially short term, since we're almost there. I have been thinking for some time now, that we are still 1 year away, and that's ok. Next year better be great though.
Love Suh, but Idzik will not touch him. I salivate at a Dline of Suh, Wilk and Shells but I don't see it. I think we resign or tender Harrison. I think resigning Kerley is a must, very reliable. Has chemistry with Geno. I would love to have Revis back. Maybe Idzik and Woody can be convinced by Rex, I think the dust has settled between both parties. Maybe he comes back at a cheaper, more reasonable rate of 8-9M per. I think Wilk will get in the 11-13M per range. We need another receiver to compliment Decker, that's where we look to the draft. Lots of great talent coming out, maybe an even stronger class than last year. No more high picks on secondary. We could try and go after the big 3: Dez, Thomas or Crabtree but the only one I could see us getting is Crabtree because I read an article saying SF might not want to pay him. I'd much rather draft our own guy though. As for David Harris, I would not resign him. For his replacement I'd look to draft the man in my avatar, Denzel Perryman. Huge hitter, leader, doesn't miss tackles. Rex would love this kid. For the Oline, I haven't looked at the FA crop but I think that would be the best route. We have spending money and our Oline draft picks haven't quite panned out yet. A few good prospects in the draft like Ogbuehi and Peat but I believe they'll be top 10 picks.
Lol now you're just saying statements even if they don't make sense. 1. Wilkerson often plays the edge, it's part of his role in Rex's hybrid defense. If you watched any game film of the Jets from last year you'd see Wilkerson moves all around, frequently playing 4-3 end on passing downs. 2. A transcendent player like Suh can still rush the passer from the NT position. I've seen him do it. He is 100% capable of two gapping, and often plays the NT position against run formations in in Detroit. You're acting like utilizing the 0-technique is exclusive to 3-4 base defenses, which it absolutely is not. 4-3 base defenses line players up at 0-technique all the time. 3. Your dumbest statement by far is "nt.'s are 2 down players in todays game and are not on the field during nicker downs." Just because you have a player who can be utilized as a NT doesn't mean you are under some requirement to take him off the field on passing downs. Dumbest thing I've ever heard. We didn't pull Kris Jenkins off on passing downs even though he was our NT. I'm not saying we need to sign Suh, or that we will, but you're a dumbass if you can't see the logic behind doing it.
It doesnt matter what the fans think. The Jets have a plan and a certain way in which they want to go about building this team under Idzik. The rollover money is a clear indication of their plan and what they're trying to do. They're not "all in" on 2014 or anything, that's clearly obvious. As long as Woody believes in what Idzik is doing it doesnt matter what the public outcry is. Woody's opinion is all that matters.
Suh isnt happening. Not and Idzik player IMO Do people think we could get a first for Harrison this year? He's a good player, but a first rounder is a lot to give up nowadays. I like the idea of either getting our great player back, or getting a first for him.
As much as this sucks, as mere fans, we have no choice but to trust in the front office. It's either that or switch your team. In this light, I'm fine with the OP's perspective. Welcome to the 2015 Preseason. Sent using Tapatalk
Have some faith... Idzik stashed $25mil for next year so you have to hope there's a kernel of a Plan A&B already in place. When Idzik didn't spend the cash this year, there's only one conclusion you can arrive at. 2015....
I just can't see the Jets shelving a homegrown nose tackle and paying 9mil a year for Suh with all of the needs this team has in a year they seem to be using to contend. Don't get me wrong, after the 2010 draft I said a number of times that I would trade that entire draft for Suh, although 4 years later it seems like an obvious decision. The Jets passing Suh and Wilk 9mil/year with contracts that extend into Richardson's contract year just makes zero sense to me when we have a proven NT and a possible replacement for that guy already on the roster for probably 4mil/year to keep at least one if them. Why spend that much Jack on the DL when you can actually address your other needs on the ENTIRE team? Fuck Maclin. Why continue to address a strength on the team if you are willing to pay that much money to Suh?? Max, you usually make some great posts, but this OP is confusing. Hell, give 9mil to a pass rusher.
I like the strategy of not blowing all our money on big names in FA. I wouldn't that to change next year just because we have a ton of cash. Make the draft the foundation, supplement via FA and don't pay lip service to competition. See I LOVE Idzik's "plan"; it's the execution of said plan that leaves much to be desired.
