The front page, just wow. :) Fire Rex, fire Idzik, bench Geno, fire Morningweig.... Did some of you really think we were a Superbowl contender this year? I think our finish last year really did the team a disservice (aside from lower draft picks), because it made a lot of people take 8-8 for granted, and demand a better record this year. But last year, we were a really bad team that got lucky in a bunch of close games.

I dunno about you, but I still remember the worst offense I've ever seen (that's saying something as a Jets fan) that not only turned it over like a machine gun, but couldnt move the ball on most drives. I remember a secondary where both Cromartie and Milliner were giving WRs a 10 yard cushion, and Ed Reed was beat to the play by the O-Linemen who ran in to congratulate the other team's receivers.

And then this year, we've had a TON of bad luck so far. Really bad schedule, injuries at our weakest spots (Milliner, McDougle, Decker), just unheard of shit like Patterson disappearing or the Timeout in GB game, refs screwing us over time after time. So please relax, and stop trying to find someone to blame. Some changes might have to be made in the offseason, but for now, take a deep breath, remember that we are a rebuilding team in the middle of a really tough stretch, and adjust your expectations.

Try to enjoy the good things, like the fact that despite this rough stretch, our defense is looking really good and rated at or near the top in many categories. Enjoy the fact that Amaro seems like a legit passing threat, or that Pryor is getting a little bit better in coverage. Think of where our team can be in a year or two, once we add a few more pieces (one or two quality corners, a starting caliber WR, a Guard).

Yeah, I thought the team should compete for a playoff spot this year. I am not one of the people calling for anyone's job yet, though.

I am amazed at people like the thread starter who are accepting mediocrity and making excuses.

Not only should the team compete for a playoff berth, they better. Three straight years now with no playoff action. This is already ridiculous. Enough. It has to stop. This no-playoff streak has to end.

Yeah I take a couple days off posting after the Jets game and wait until most are done whacking their ePeen's all over their keyboards.

  4. ..But that's the thing. This team IS very competitive. We hung w/ 2 of the better passing attacks in the NFL despite our deepest weakness being our back end. While there are no moral victories this team can ball. What's that mean? Big plays, exciting games & even some explosion. That's a big step in the right direction from the slow, grind it out, play not to lose Jets of the last few years.

Now winning? We'll see some of that..but not likely as consistently as we all want after 45 years. That's gonna take some time as this young core continues to blossom.

Yes. Your absolutely right. We have great Coach who has complete understanding of both
offense and defense. We have a General Manager with a great experience in scouting and player personnel.
And our owner is aCEO of a major company who earned his MBA from Harvard. No our current
sistuation is caused by bad luck.

Great point about accepting mediocrity. Nobody LIKES to lose, but if you have players (or fans) who DON'T MIND losing and always claims small "victories" in the losses , and/or talk about "1-2 years from now" your team will stay mediocre.

Nobody thinks the season is over but the reality is we are not winning the Super Bowl this year. Do well, improve the roster, have a good draft and be a stronger team next year and hopefully a true playoff contender is what we are realistically looking at.

This is flawed logic. We could very easily be 0-3 too if a few plays in week 1 ended differently.

How is it accepting mediocrity? we are 3 games into a season. I can only imagine what this place would have been like back in 1998 when we started 0-2, 1-2, 2-3, 6-4. The team has stunk the last 2 weeks, made too many mistakes and couldn't overcome some horrendous calls against them. This doesn't mean the season is over.

I have to agree with you here. I've noticed big improvements with the offense this year and a lot of encouraging progress from Geno. Yes, the picks he threw against the Bears were atrocious and he left a couple out there, but this offense has been able to move the ball very well. This wasn't the case with Geno last year. The running game has been at least good and the defense has been very good overall. Have to get better in the red zone, cut those critical mistakes, and hopefully get a healthy Decker and Milliner back, but I see a lot of positives in this team so far. IMO, calling for Vick to start already is ridiculous.

These two games could have easily had different results if a few things broke differently. Not saying I'm happy with 1-2, but I'm not totally discouraged by what I've seen. I'll rattle off some more encouraging things I've seen...

    - Geno has shown improvement from 2013 t0 2014. The offense is able to move the ball much better than last year. His decision-making and critical turnovers need to improve, of course
    - Chris Ivory has been great; the team is 2nd in the league in rushing
    - Eric Decker has been very good when healthy thus far.
    - Jeremy Kerley has been terrific
    - Nick Mangold is having a great year and the line as a whole has been quite good (Winters has had some very bad moments though)
    - Defensive line has been as advertised
    - DeMario Davis and David Harris have been very good
    - Seeing a lot more sacks from the defense as a whole this year
    - Overall, Antonio Allen and Darrin Walls have held down the fort pretty well.

I see no reason why this team can't be competitive going forward based on what I've seen.

Yeah, and that's the problem and why there's so much negativity. We should be 3-0 now really, 2-1 at worst, but we're not. We've handed 2 winnable games to our opponents. We've had some bad luck for sure, but we haven't helped ourselves either. While it is encouraging in a way to say we've run the Packers and Bears (who are good-ish sides) close, you have to accept the possibility that we won't get that near to the next 4 sides we play as well. That these 2 games may have been our chances in a pretty brutal run to start the season and we couldn't get it done. 3-4 would look a whole look better than 1-6 will, that's where the negativity comes from.

People are frustrated because this team is a couple of huge mistakes away from being 3-0. We are all desperate to see this team live up to its full potential and it is beyond frustrating that a handful of (mostly) inexcusable blunders has held us back. With anger and frustration come overreaction and panic. It is par for the course. Having said that, because we were only a few plays away from possibly winning both of the two games we have lost so far, it is indeed too early to panic.

This upcoming Detroit game is one of the biggest games in the Rex Ryan era in a long time. I believe it will set the tone for the rest of the season and could either send us on a resurgence or a downward spiral.

Would anyone be mad if we went 4-4, then go 6-2?
