Luck did not have much run support last year. Meanwhile the Jets had the 6th highest rated running attack last year.
It really isn't that crazy. You want long term success. This team isn't good enough to win a SB now. It might be next year, but we need to see Geno's development to see if he'll be our guy next year. Starting Vick proves nothing for this team.
on Geno's red zone INT, i was literally repeating aloud "please don't throw a pick!" from when he started rolling to his left until the moment it was picked off by Kyle Fuller Geno sucks. He makes the same stupid mistakes as Sanchez, except he is getting a longer leash because he's in year 2 instead of year 4. I'm afraid Rex's stupid experiment will end the same way in 2 years, with the drafting of yet another QB who sucks. Rex's post-game comment of "i know his heart is in the right place" about Geno shows how messed up his approach to the most critical position on the football field is. I mean WTF? His heart is in the right place, meaning he wanted to score a TD? Well no sh-t, Rex! I would hope so. I would also hope he wants the team to win games. The problem is his head and how it coordinates with his body to make dumb play or poor throw after dumb play or poor throw. So much of the QB position is mental. Take a guy like Russell Wilson who has physical limitations but is arguably the best decision maker out there and you have a recipe for winning. All this team needs to play .500 ball or better is a journeyman scrub QB who won't gift the ball to the other team. But instead our genius front office insists on trotting out turnover machines with zero poise out there week after week. The coaching also sucks, too. In 4 years, Sanchez doesn't improve visibly in any one area. He can't even learn to throw the ball out of bounds when nothing's there. He goes to Philly and after 1 training camp he is -- relatively speaking -- lighting it up to the point people are asking Chip Kelly whether they would trade him.
Not me. I was bigtime hoping to get Foles. And how about Stanton in Arizona? AYFKM he was on the Jets roster and they let him for for Tim Tebow! But on Foles, I thought he would have been perfect for the Jets. Ask Brad if you don't remember. Heh.
Another awesome post. Keep it up. I also don't see the flaws as likely to be overcome by Smith. What are his fans seeing that I don't? I think they've lost their perspective by having lived with Sanchez for four years and thinking they see distinctions between the two that add up to making Smith a better prospect. But that they have lost their perspective is completely obvious.
Lol I didn't know Stanton was a Jet. He wasn't much before this year so I won't get upset about that. He looked really good this preseason though, they should stick with him.
GTFO. I simply do not understand your perspective here. Smith might not even be in the league in a year or two. Why sacrifice a playoff berth for him?
I don't know.... He had upside for sure but also some serious fundamental issues coming out of college... If he hasn't corrected these bad habits by now then I agree, really unlikely he turns it around
Let's get one thing out the way, I'm not for benching Geno in favor of Vick. What I want is what Idzik supposedly said this team would be about, COMPETITION! If Vick is better, you play him. Have no idea why Geno is getting Luck, Aikman and Manning type treatment as a second round draft pick. The only other second round draft pick in recent memory I can think of that have been afforded a full season more is Andy Dalton. You know what Dalton did to prevent the early hook? HE PLAYED WELL!!!
They signed him, and in fact paid him half a mil for being on the team a couple of weeks in the off season, signing him right before the Tebow trade. They let him go after getting Tebow, apparently because they felt bad about lying to him being the backup. The irony is if he had stayed he would have most likely been the backup since he was a better talent than McElroy, and as we all know the Jets did not use Tebow as a real backup. Thank God.
I did not mean to compare SMith as equivalent to Sanchez, who also was seen as having great upside coming out of college. My point instead was Smith Fans see some differences between him and Sanchez, but they are marginal at this point, and no proof he will actualy be better.
There are distinctions but they don't add up to making Geno the better prospect. 30 TOs in 19 games is bad no matter how it's done.
Look, I don't think they should bench Geno. I also generally agree with a lot of what you have written. I think people are far too impatient with young quarterbacks in today's NFL. (There are plenty of historical examples to support this position - Terry Bradshaw, Steve Young, Joe Namath, etc). But, at some point, he's got to slow down the alarming rate at which he turns the ball over. He just has to. Otherwise, Vick should (and will) play.
i would say geno has had to ok games and 1 bad game. that said he isn't too far below what i expected this year. i was thinking he would be above 60% comp and 1.5:1 td/t.o. the turn overs are troublesome of course but he is completing passes at as good a rate as vick has done for his career.
