I am guilty of thinking last night that I wanted to see Vick get an opportunity to play a few series, but you're right. If they turn to Vick it's not like Geno can watch and learn from a guy that takes care of the ball. If Vick's skill set was built around ball-security then I could see it.

2011 - Michael Vick either threw a pick or fumbled the ball or both in 12 of 13 games.
2012 - Michael Vick either threw a pick or fumbled or both in 7 of 9 games (I'm not counting the very short Dallas game).
2013 - 4 of 6 (and the 2 that he didn't, one was an awful loss to Denver, the other was an injury-shortened game that led to Foles taking over)

2013 - Geno had 12 of 16 games with a pick, fumble, or both
    2014 - Geno's 3 for 3

My point is not that Geno is the end-all, be-all here. It's that Vick is not. I agree that you play the player that gives you the best chance to win. I just don't think it's a slam dunk case that that player is Vick. At least Geno has the chance to improve and become the QB we need. Vick does not.

I just don't think Geno is ever going to be our franchise QB. Can't see it happening. He's far too careless, more so than Vick ever was.

what are Vicks redzone stats? We can live with a turnover if he can put points up.

Yea if Vick can play decent QB and stay healthy we have a shot at the playoffs. I'd rather watch competitive football this year than our QB go through his rookie season 2.0

I do get what you're saying but I haven't seen anything from Geno that makes me believe he is going to develop into a good NFL starting QB. There are certain things you look for in college QB's when looking for future NFL starters and Geno was missing a lot of them. After a whole year and an offseason the improvements he's made have been marginal. Successful NFL QB's do not develop at the rate that he is and they don't struggle with the fundamental flaws that he is still struggling with, there's much more to it than looking at interception stats. I don't see a franchise QB, I see a guy that is going to struggle to stay in the league as a backup more than I see an NFL worthy starter. I think he's a long shot developmental player. Not a guy to build around.

But regardless, why all the concern over making Geno ride the bench? Rodgers rode the bench for like 3 years and he was NFL ready. Geno is still not NFL ready. There are rookie QB's this year who are already more NFL viable. We could let Geno start every game this year and there will be some rookies drafted next year that would be more NFL worthy on opening day.

The loyalty to Geno is silly to me because I guarantee if we signed Ricky Stanzi off the street right now and in a couple weeks let him play that he would look like Tom Brady compared to what we are watching right now. Yes I know that sounds totally crazy. But in a world so upside down that horrible players like Blaine Gabbert are unilaterally agreed upon as top ten picks, do you really think it's so far fetched that a good/great QB could be floating around out there just waiting for his Kurt Warner moment?

…3) you win just enough games to be out of position to draft a blue chip prospect.

It's like the lotto; you have to be in it to win it.

Lol. When MM came here and Chip Kelly went into Philly and drafted Barkley I was ranting on here about how we need to trade for Foles cuz he can be our franchise QB. Everybody thought I was nuts.

Hahah. So we can trade him and then sign him back in ten years when he figures it out. :)

Would that then make Sanchez an "offensive talent"?

Watch him come in and play great under Kelly if he's called upon. You know it would happen

I don't think so. Kelly's offensive genius is a little overrated and Foles is way underrated.

Rex's job is safe.... if its tied to the teams W/L this season, then we have bigger problems to worry about with ownership meddling in the product

100% i would sacrafice a playoff birth. vick is 35, he isnt a long term solution. if we had someone 30 or under i'd be with you, play that guy. but its about development, not the playoffs.

horrible franchises plagued in losing play the guy with the best chance to win. teams that want to actually turn things around do whats necessary to assess what they have at the position isntead of going 9-7 with some schmuck who wont be on the team in 2 years

That's some crazy shit. You would sacrifice a playoff birth for the development of a QB you still wondering about? At this point Vick has as much chance of starting for us next year as Geno.

    Geno fan boys. Wow.

Apparently, anyone who argues in favor of the rational rather than the overreaction is a fan boy. Geno is in his 19th start. We gave Mark over 60. Geno has already showed more flashes than Mark ever did, yet you want to scrap it after 19 starts and start it all over again. Yes, the never-ending cycle of new QBs.

Vick might get us 9 wins, but what would that prove? We might make the playoffs and lose. He's a possible short-term answer. That's not how you build continual success.
