The Jags are rebuilding -- the Jets should be 3-0 -- decent QB play and even average red zone play this team is 3-0 and 3-0 going away.
It's the same mistakes over and over again. He throws into quadruple coverage like it's a normal thing. I thought he turned the page on that, but Holy shit, tonight was so frustrating. He should have had 5 interceptions tonight. Had he done that, would you have argued against putting Vick in? Lol
Vick won't be much of a difference, the playcalling will still be the same. Vick can rah rah but at the end of the day, guys have to get separation and make plays and not drop the ball. Vick has never been known for ball security, he is prone to turnovers and trying to do too much too. All I am saying is this isn't a one man problem for why we are 1-2. Geno isn't single handedly bringing the team down, the coaching staff needs to catch more flack. Using Geno as a scapegoat much like we did with Sanchez or Pennington only fools you and anyone else calling for it because it distracts you from going after the real problem, the coaching staff.
Geno is not improving. He keeps repeating the same mistakes. To compound the issue, the offense is clearly too complex with so many moving parts and no identity. This Bears D is mediocre at best, arguably one of the weaker D's we will face. Their linebackers are weak and their secondary is decimated. Tonight Geno played against a college level secondary. He threw a pick 6. He threw a redzone INT. He repeatedly threw at Kyle Fuller when the rest of the Bears DB's were scrubs. For the most part he could not hit receivers unless they were wide open and sometimes not even then. Other than Kerley, his targets were unreliable but he is not helping them like a QB should. Players need to catch balls that are near them but thats a separate issue. Some of the errant throws this game included throwing low bullets on screen passes, throwing behind receivers who are on the run, overthrowing wide open sideline streaks, and most egregious was that with one play left and the game on the line he threw the ball out of bounds. More concerning is his decision making. He holds the ball way too long. He sacked himself twice in this game rather than easily throw the ball out of bounds - on the last drive he actually ran out of bounds for a loss. Then when he doesn't have time to throw out of bounds we see him try to do it on the backpedal and makes a 5 yard sack a 15 yarder or risks fumbling. The irony continues because when he has time to plant and throw, he rushes it and makes leaping one-footed throws. That's a piss poor bad habit. Coming out of college all signs pointed to Geno being a bust as an NFL starter. He had terrible college metric grades. Not the end of the world b/c metrics miss on players from time to time, but definitely a really bad sign because QB is the position that the metric predictions are most accurate with. Everything we've seen so far in his NFL career points to Geno living up to his college metric predictions. He's developmental backup QB material. He is not franchise QB material. There is no need to keep evaluating him from live NFL gameplay. Vick has had ups and downs in his career but he has proven that he is a starting caliber NFL QB. We have the answer sitting on our bench but we're too stupid and/or stubborn to admit it. Our chances of a winning season are way better playing Vick and hoping he stays healthy than playing Geno and hoping he turns into a passable QB. The argument made by Geno supporters are shifting blame to the WR corp and the coaching. There's certainly blame there. A good deal. However, that does NOT excuse the fundamental positional mistakes that Geno keeps repeating.
The Bears were and are vulnerable to the run so the fact we didn't run it on them was lousy gameplanning on the coaches. Regardless of score, we had them in the 2nd half reeling on the ground with Ivory and the time was not against us with the timeouts at use so having Geno throw against the Bears at will when Ivory and Powell were churning on them just made no sense to me. Vs the Lions? By all means, go after the secondary. Vs the Bears? Fred Jackson took it to them and the 49ers if they didn't shy away from the run and (Like us) force their QB to try and carry the team when it wasn't necessary could have took it to the Bears as well. The Bears set NFL records last season vs the run. They did bring in Houston and Paea has had a nice season so far but that doesn't cover up the fact that this is a team you do not ever go away from the run against. The problem with saying Geno holds onto the ball too long is A) The targets do not get separation consistently with Fuller adjusted onto Kerley B) You can't just blindly throw the ball away in the pocket as the defense takes away running lanes away from Geno to force him to commit to the pocket or else its a penalty or turnover Balls to Amaro, to Chris Johnson were balls that need to be caught. There isn't any adjustment to them, they are right into the bread basket. He threw a heave to a smaller WR because of the blitz, its a poor call against the blitz which Marty was a victim of one too many times(The final 2 3rd down calls I loathed). You saw Tresman on the final drive counter our blitzes with a RB toss to Forte on the outside for the 1st and for using Jeffrey to heave a ball thrown up high for the 1st where his size proves to be a mismatch. I am telling you guys Vick isn't going to save the team or carry them on his back, nor should we put him in a position to. He is not an efficient red zone scorer(Again look at the OC), his ball security is alarming and his feet are not as dynamic as they used to be and as you said, he's tacked on a ton of injuries. I just don't see how Vick steps in and we suddenly become a playoff team or a team in playoff contention. I don't think we have the talent around either guy to make it happen. We aren't going to cheat the rebuilding phase, we need another draft or so.
Every time one of these guys talks about Simms, I assume they're trolling. But then I realize that there are humans who think Matt Simms should actually get to start in the NFL. There's a reason the Jets signed Vick and that reason is that Matt Simms isn't even backup calibre.
Same people who thought McElroy should have been given a chance. Same people who thought Kellen Clemens should have been the starter
It's time for you to stop making stupid threads and then attacking people who smell bullshit when it's there. Michael Vick sucks, too. Geno isn't improving like we want, and Mike Vick is useless. I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to watch a circus with him running around all game. He can't make throws, and Geno can't make smart decisions. We're fucked. Might as well put in the only guy with any sort of winning blood in, Simms.
Geno looked today like he looked last year with insufficient receiving weapons. Decker is hardly an all world receiver, but look how much better Geno plays with Decker out there. It is definitely not time to bench Geno, I just pray Decker doesn't suffer another setback.
No, we can't bench Geno now. We all want the Jets to make the playoffs this year, but that's just a short term thing. They are not doing any damage in the playoffs. It's a work in progress, and we've got almost no secondary, some serious issues with guards on the O-Line, young players in a lot of positions, and other issues. So we need to find out what Geno has, plugging in Vick now is pointless. A big part of this season is evaluating whether Geno is our QB of the future or not. He has improved this season, but today he had two really bad turnovers. The Jets need pretty much the entire season though to properly evaluate him.
Well...From what I see Geno makes mistakes, but I don't see him a the #1 problem. With the current roster, I see the play-calling as offenses #1 problem. Then ...not giving Ivory more carries....a big issue. The O-line play....especially LG, is a weakness....I can't say WR, because is there anybody who can help this sorry group. Amaro...is clearly not Gronkowski...maybe they should have selected a WR with the #2 pick....Amaro is a decent player, but looks like a player that has 4th-5th round talent. So...is Geno the problem....not on my t.v. Is Geno improving....clearly he is. Should Jets run more & throw less.....YES. Jets need 2 new Guards for next season. Marty Morningweg needs to get that bull-shit of his mind & realize he doesn't have to call every play on his stupid playcard. They also need a big strong TE...The only thing worse than 1 mediocre TE...is 2 or 3 mediocre TE's.
I can's believe I'm agreeing with u. I can't believe I'm agreeing with u. Now...imagine if Decker was ur #2 WR & Jets had a real WR or deep threat. Where is Stephen Hill....Bring him back.
I don't want the Jets to bench Geno. A full season will reveal what kind of a QB he is. So far, he looks like a fraud. I hope he proves otherwise - or Jets will be drafting very early next season, under new HC.
Hey man You make good points and I agree with you for the most part actually. but what I argue is that you are not being rationally critical of Geno. It is not good news when your QB's only above average NFL QB attribute is his running ability. Geno needs to be held accountable for HIS play, for the things in HIS control - regardless of outside factors We should have run on them but I really can't be that mad at Marty for trying to air it out when the Bears entire secondary is 2nd and 3rd stringers. It's depressingly sad that our QB wasn't able to take advantage of that. A. There were plenty of guys open this game. And by open I mean NFL open. He waits for them to get college open before he throws. He doesn't lead receivers. He is not good with getting rid of the ball quickly. We should be able to complete quicks slants on 3rd and 3 more than once a game. B. His pocket presence and footwork is not good enough. When he feels pressure he too often backpedals instead of stepping up. Instead of sliding in the pocket and finding his man he ends up rolling out, taking half the field away. When he successfully evades the pressure this way, he stays harried and almost always throws cross body on the run, often times ridiculously jumping like he's playing dodgeball, instead of planting and throwing. So when he does have a man the throw is inaccurate. Often times he does not have a man but instead of throwing it away he forces it into coverage, ala the redzone INT tonight. when the rollout is cut off by a defender he ends up running diagonally backwards and we end up praying for the throwaway before he is sacked or stupidly steps out of bounds for a loss. The balls to Amaro and CJ definitely should have been caught. No doubt. I bring them up because they were pretty standard throws that should be easy for an NFL QB. Geno couldn't put them on the money. The one to Amaro was slightly behind him and made him twist on the run. The screen to CJ needs to be soft, in front, and in the numbers, not hard, low, and to the side. This is really a triviality, the big problem is things like overthrowing a wide open Cumberland down the sideline and not even giving Kerley a chance on that last throw. Those types of wasted throws are inexcusable from your QB if you expect to win games in the NFL. I'm not heralding Vick as a savior that's gonna put us on his back. However, I certainly believe he is a huge upgrade at the QB position. He's a seasoned vet with adequate mechanics. His accuracy is sufficient and he's still got a cannon of an arm. We don't need him to be the playmaker that they needed him to be in Atlanta and Philly. We only need a professional grade game manager. He is certainly more than capable of this and his ceiling is much higher. In the face of Geno's continued poor play, the injury concern with Vick is not sufficient to keep him on the bench anymore and his injuries were never things that would make him a lesser QB (like dislocated shoulders). If you go by that logic then Seattle would be keeping Percy Harvin on the bench because he's been injury riddled. He got hit a lot in Philly and had turnover issues because they had one of the worst O lines in the league and he was a reckless runner at times. Those are two issues I imagine will be improved here. And say he does get knocked out with an injury, we'd be putting Geno back in so we're no worse off than we are now, at least lets get some passable QB play while we can. I guarantee you that every one of our opponents is hoping we stay with Geno at least until they have already played us.
We could easily be 3-0 as well. That said, needs to clean it up. last two weeks are heartbreakers, but he got us into the redzone 7 times. he needs to learn what it takes to finish in this league. Benching him does us no good as a team right now. He needs a real Qb guru/coach in his ass 24/7, somebody needs to point out his every fuck up. 15 yard sacks and not knowing when to throw it away hurt...its the little shit killing him and while I see potential it's still hard to watch.
Those passes were right on the money. If he leads Amaro too much, he takes him right into the defender. The ball to CJ was waist level high. We know you hate Geno but there were nothing wrong with those throws. Just 2 AWFUL drops. CJ has been absolute crap this year all around. You breath on the guy and he goes down. He doesnt hit the running lanes hard as well. At this point, he is worthless and Powell is more productive.
