Since Rex doesn't have Wilson or Manning or Brees or Rothlesburger, he shouldn't be judged by his record as a HC or his team's performance during his tenure but instead given a pass? Hell, if that was the case, no HC in the NFL should ever lose his job because of his record. 43-39 sounds like HOF numbers to a lot of Jet Fans...

I'm guessing quarterbacks have something to do with it.

So unless Rex gets a HOF calibre Qb, there's really no other criteria to judge him on? Reminds me of the old Phil Jackson argument. If it wasn't for Michael Jordan, would there have been a Phil Jackson Super Coach?

If my math is correct, if there have been 48 superbowls, that means there have been over 80 coaches participating in them more or less taking into account repeaters. Out of those 80, how many of them did not have a HOF Qb but still made the SB? Point being, its possible to make the SB and NOT have a HOF Qb or HOF calibre Defense. Since that has been Rex's situation since day one, what else do we judge him on? His defenses maybe?

If we don't go 8 and 8 or better this year rex should be canned.....I personally think he should have been gone when we started to rebuild

I believe Rex is one of the few guys that can get it done Without a franchise dude if he has certain pieces in place. His defenses in baltimore are considered top 3 all time. He is one the best motivators in football period. His players would go to war with a ballpoint pen for him. Last years 8-8 was one of the better coaching jobs in the entire league. The offense is still borderline bad to average, and the team is literally on the verge of being really good if things fall in place....he deserves more time in my eyes...

None of the quarterbacks on that list was a below average QB. There are actually a number of QBs that will never make the HOF.

To answer that question. Yes phil would have still been a great coach. Would he have won 9 rings without Mj, pippen and Kobe and Shaq...no way in freaking hell.

What evidence is there that Rex can contribute directly to the performance of his own qb in a positive manner? Is it your belief that franchise QB's become franchise QBs independent of the organization around them?

True Byz. but even the SB losers made the SB. What is the criteria to use here? What measuring stick do we use to judge Rex's tenure? Please for the love of God, no one bring up the back to back AFCCG losses.

I know what you mean. I've come to the point where I think this season, whether or not Geno becomes a solid QB, will be the ultimate proving point for Rex.

Conflicted, C, to say the least.

Honestly I think in this era of football having a qb that commands 20% of the cap off top hurts more then it helps unless your qb is of a caliber that make everyone around him better no matter who he has to throw to. Special individuals. That's part of Manning and Bradys legacy in itself, looking a lot more at Brady in this instance. Example: Matt Ryan and the atlanta falcons. The moment the front office paid Ryan the talent level of the team went through the floor. How does that relate to us? Mark Sanchez got paid, Revis, the motor of the defense, the guy that allowed sanches to be so average in the first place got let go. They couldn't pay anyone and slowly you have to let all those trash contracts run their corse before you can start over. (This is where we are at) By paying a qb, most times your left with an average team with a pretty good qb...that will never win anything. We don't have to be like that. Geno just has to not turn the ball over... basicaly turn into trent dilfer 2.0, but with more talent. Build up your supporting cast..build a TEAM rather then a 1 man army. Seattle is the ULTIMATE team right now. The day Wilson commands 15m+ you can say bye bye to all the little guys around him that makes that team go and seattle will be just another team in this league. Let Rex and Idzik continue to build this Team. We don't need a HOF qb, we need a guy that won't throw picks in the redzone, capitalizes on third downs, gets out of bounds and throws it away when needed. Ground n fuckin pound, keep 1 man armys off the field.

Nah.. Too many of those in the past. Besides, most coaches fire themselves usually because of poor results on the field. Rex at some point will have to produce results. Not sure when but my best guess would be he gets a mulligan this year but 2015 will either make or break Rex.

There's absolutely no reason he should get a mulligan this year. Last year he had the Sanchez and Geno excuse so that was his free pass. This year the Jets came into the season at supposedly full strength and way better personnel than last season. If Rex shits the bed this year then he should be gone after 4 non playoff years in a row. No coach without a SB trophy survives that, especially in a media market as big as NY. If he's retained then it just tells you what's important to Woody and it sure as hell ain't winning games and building a championship contender.

In my opinion, the measuring stick is the success he has had both when he had talent and when this team was devoid of talent. I won't bring up the AFC Championship games, but I will bring up those two seasons.

Those were great superbowl teams that we had. Both teams could have won a superbowl. Was Mark Sanchez the faulting point? We will never know. Had we had a Brees would we have won both? Likely, but we don't know. Speculation.

But, Rex gave us that success with Mark Sanchez leading the offense. A quarterback who was cut and is now the backup on another team.

Last year, on paper, we had one of the worst teams in the league. People that predicted us going 4-12 or 3-13 had every right to think that. The roster we had just looked terrible, but what ended up occurring? We finished 8-8 and just barely missed the playoffs. Many people feel that was Rex's best year coaching. Taking a team that was in the gutter and going 500.

I get it, we haven't made the playoffs in years, but if you're gonna judge him, you need to judge him on his entire career here. Yes, this team hasn't sniffed the playoffs in what feels like forever, but we have also had a lot of success under Rex. Some of the most success many of us have ever seen out of the Jets.

I think letting Rex go would be a big mistake for this franchise. Unless he completely shits the bed, 2015 is the telling year.

I like Rex, i think he is a good coach. i think he has made 0 progress though. He is the same coach now he was then. He doesnt value preperation, he doesnt value the same details, and he doesnt care about offense.

This is what, year 6, and we still constantly see stuff like getting a delay of game call on a punt attempt, wasting timeouts for no reason, no value on protecting the football, etc....

we really need to surround rex with guys that DO value small details.
